Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal appeared to be pals ahead of the YouTuber’s fight with Ben Askren in April. ‘Gamebred’ and Paul even trained together ahead of the bout.

In the build-up to Paul’s next fight against Tyron Woodley, the mood has changed, with Masvidal backing ‘The Chosen One’ to spectacularly knockout the 24-year-old on August 29.

“So, it’s not to diss Jake…Woodley can throw them hands; Ben Askren never could,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani. “Woodley could’ve made his money grappling, which he did. He’s good enough of an athlete, and he’s good enough of an athlete to make his money with his hands and knock people the f**k out. I know Jake’s never been in there with a guy like that – That’s explosive, is a good athlete, and has a ton of experience over. So, (if) Jake wins, f**king wild. My hat’s off to him. I was wrong. I don’t know sh** about fighting, right? But, chances are Woodley‘s gonna knock him the f**k out.”

During a recent interview with Combat Culture, Paul reacted to Masvidal’s prediction, he said.

“He’s going to eat those words very quickly. This is coming from a guy who just got knocked out cold in an embarrassing way. Maybe he doesn’t know that much about fighting.”

“I think Jorge has done a lot for this sport. I think he’s a good guy, but, unfortunately, my friend it’s a new era. Of course, he’s going to side with his boy. Maybe Jorge’s next.”

After getting wind of Paul’s comments Masvidal took to social media.

“I guess this means you’ll stop hitting me up now on social media to hang out and train,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter. “Don’t worry about me you got a handful of problems coming your way #supernecessary”

“You played yourself,” Paul wrote in response alongside a image of Masvidal taken from UFC 261. “It’s super necessary you get your boss Dana to give you permission to get in the ring with me since you supposed to be nice with your “hands””

Jake Paul Jorge Masvidal

Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal trained together leading up to Paul’s knockout win over Ben Askren earlier this year. Masvidal went as far as endorsing his skill leading up to the highlight finish that many felt wouldn’t happen.

But the positive relationship between the two has appeared to have fizzled out after Paul did not respond in kind to Masvidal’s prediction that Tyron Woodley will knock him out in his next challenge in the boxing ring.

Paul is just days away from his highly-anticipated boxing matchup with the former UFC welterweight champion Woodley, who will make his boxing debut after a long career in MMA. This will easily be Paul’s toughest test to date after knockouts over wrestling specialist Askren, former NBA player Nate Robinson, and YouTube rival AnEsonGib.

During a recent interview with Combat Culture, Paul reacted to Masvidal’s prediction with fighting words of his own.

“He’s going to eat those words very quickly,” Paul said. “This is coming from a guy who just got knocked out cold in an embarrassing way. Maybe he doesn’t know that much about fighting.”

“I think Jorge has done a lot for this sport. I think he’s a good guy, but, unfortunately, my friend it’s a new era. Of course, he’s going to side with his boy. Maybe Jorge’s next.”

Paul will fight in his native Cleveland, OH at Rocket Mortgage Arena. His brother, Logan has also taken the boxing world by storm and most recently fought against boxing Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather in Miami.

Despite coming off of four-straight losses in the UFC octagon, Woodley still has tremendous knockout power and has even trained with Mayweather leading up to his fight with Paul.

The Paul vs. Woodley fight is widely expected to be a massive pay-per-view success, which might make a Masvidal vs. Paul fight very possible down the line.

Jorge Masvidal believes Tyron Woodley will KO Jake Paul on August 29.

‘The Chosen One’ is set to make his boxing debut against Paul in the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view that will also feature the likes of Amanda Serrano, Tommy Fury, and Daniel Dubois.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Masvidal explained why he’s backing Woodley to beat Paul.

“So, it’s not to diss Jake…Woodley can throw them hands; Ben Askren never could,” Masvidal said.

Masvidal spent some time in the gym with Paul but never actually saw him do any real work. In contrast, ‘Gamebred’ says he’s seen the best of Woodley and thinks he’s got what it takes to defeat the internet celebrity.

“We (Jake Paul and I) didn’t spar. I saw him hit the pads. I think I’ve seen him lightly sparring with guys. I’ve only seen from fights and the footage we have online when he’s going at a hundred, a hundred speed. That being said, I’ve also seen Woodley when he’s hitting pads, when he’s sparring at a hundred, and when he’s fighting at a hundred. And I do the math. Woodley wins, man. Woodley just wins, you know.”

“As long as he did his part – which was train, leading up to the moment; was in the gym, doing his thing – he’s gonna win,” Masvidal added. “There’s just too much experience and athleticism on that side. I think Jake’s a good athlete, but Woodley’s a different type of athlete, you know, that next, next-level athlete. And Jake’s gonna feel it in the fight. I don’t think he’s even ever sparred with somebody as athletic as Woodley that can cover the distance he can. If Woodley was to get tired or hurt, (he’d) clinch him and there’s nothing Jake could do. Yeah, the referee will break it up, but there goes four or five seconds. He’s gonna get manhandled in the clinch. I see Woodley winning.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)
