Dream fights come along only once or twice a generation. For fight fans in the 2010s, there are only three fights that really transcend their respective sports. Fights that would get everyone in the sports world talking.

In boxing, the dream fight to end all dream fights is Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. It’s a fight that has, thus far, mainly taken place in the press.

Unfortunately, the way things are going, if it ever happens it will be at a retirement home in South Beach with both men coming slowly to the ring on Rascals. A fight while both are in their primes? Forget about it.

Mixed martial arts doesn’t have a single fight that powerful. Some fans are excited to see Georges St-Pierre, the reigning welterweight champion, take on the amazing middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The size differential between the two men, more than 20 pounds, has halted this one in its tracks.

This leaves us with only one fight that can define our generation. A battle between two superstars, men so popular and iconic that it seems impossible to believe a single arena could possibly be enough to hold all the interested spectators.

Of course, I could only be talking about Shaquille O’Neal versus Jose Canseco,

You remember Canseco right?

In his prime, he was putting notches on his bedpost at a Ryan Reynolds-like pace and becoming the first member of baseball’s 40/40 club, notching 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in the same season. Later, he was one of the first players to admit widespread steroid abuse in the sport.

Today? He’s best known for making a fool of himself on Twitter. Airing his dirty laundry. Challenging the monstrous Shaquille O’Neal to a fight.

Yes, that Shaquille O’Neal. The recently retired basketball star best known for his power moves, mumbling, incoherent interviews and the movie Kazaam, not necessarily in that order.

Will this fight ever actually take place? What would a fight between the two men even look like, considering Shaq is 40 and Jose Canseco is 47? What’s the over/under on high-price escorts traveling to whatever town is blessed with this potential matchup? These are burning questions that demand answers.

I never thought anyone would out-Pride the Pride Fight Championships. But if this fight comes off, there will be a new king of the freak-show fights. I welcome them with open arms.

Tank Abbott Continues His Reign of Dominance…We Think


(Wait, so you mean to tell me that we have to fight indoors? In a ring? Like a bunch of pampered women? Props to MiddleEasy for the find. ) 

Fresh off his decision victory over Scott Ferrozzo at ProElite: Birmingham, Tank Abbott was at it again last night, this time taking on fellow UFC pioneer Kimo Leopold in a match that made the ill-fated special rules bout between Ken Shamrock and James Toney seem like a walk in the park. Fortunately taking place inside an actual building this time — the Avalon in Hollywood, California — the bout featured three, one minute rounds, in which the competitors wore both headgear and some cartoon sized boxing gloves.

But where Tank’s backyard brawl at least had the decency to determine a winner, no such clarity could be provided with last evening’s brawl. Those that were able to stay awake for the “fight”‘s entirety were given no closure as to who won, and likely walked back to their tricked out El Camino’s soaked in Natty Ice and disappointment. But considering that these are the kind of people who willingly paid to see the likes of Coolio, Octomom, Joey Buttafuoco, Tila Tequila, and Jose fucking Canseco square off, all whilst Ron Jeremy strutted his stuff as a ring girl, mind you, it’s hard to imagine that their hopes were ever that high to begin with. Or their IQ’s, for that matter.

As soon as we find video evidence that this blasphemy actually occurred we will be sure to let you know, because this is the kind of hard hitting story that keeps the Potato Nation strong.

Jose Canceso‘s record as a celebrity boxer currently sits at 1-2-1, including a knockout loss to Vai Sikahema, a decision loss to a 60-year-old man, a tough draw against Danny Partridge, and a win (finally) against Todd Poulton, self-described as “The Heavyweight Champion of OCD.”

We’d say that the former baseball star’s next match offers him a shot at redemption, but considering his opponent, he’ll look like a loser even if he wins it. Canseco is booked to appear at a Celebrity Fight Night event on November 5th against Tareq Salahi, best known as the “White House party crasher” whose wife Michaele is a total whore.

During a recent face-off in Beverly Hills, Salahi confronted the crowd with a five-year-old photo of Canseco with Michaele, which skeevy promoter Alki David presented to the media in the front row with obvious glee. “I’m fighting for anybody who’s against cheating, be in my corner, and I’m gonna take Jose down,” Salahi said.

When it came for the traditional fists-up photo-op, Salahi was still harping on the photo thing, and the two had to be separated. The moment seemed obviously staged, and you have to feel embarrassed for everybody involved. Salahi is seriously trying to ride his fame as the Ultimate Cuckold? Canseco is reduced to beating up guys like that for a paycheck? Actually, I don’t feel bad for Alki David; his life seems pretty rad.

There may not have been a UFC or Strikeforce event this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t still plenty of people punching, kicking, and choking each other all around the world.

Some of them might have required you to set the DVR or wake up at odd hours, and others might not be available on video at all just yet, but the point is some stuff happened. In order to give that stuff its due respect, we now take a look back at the weekend’s action to examine who the big winners and losers are this Monday afternoon.
