It appears UFC welterweight alum, Nate Diaz and Bellator grappler, Dillon Danis were not the only combatants to engage in an extra curricular scuffle following last night’s UFC 281 event in New York – with former welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman requiring wrangling during a run-in with division contender, Kevin Holland.

Kamaru Usman and Kevin Holland required separation following UFC 281 last night

Footage emerged following last night’s UFC 281 event at Madison Square Garden, detailing a scuffle involving the aforenoted duo of Kamaru Usman and Kevin Holland, as well as the pair’s respective entourage, with officials and parties both sides attempting to separate and corral both.

“Bit of an altercation backstage at #UFC281 tonight,” Comedian and actor, Jim Norton tweeted accompanied by footage of Kamaru Usman’s run-in with Kevin Holland. “Not sure what the issue was. Almost lost my phone but luckily @reedharrisufc swooped in to the rescue.”

Yet to return to the Octagon since his thunderous fifth round welterweight title knockout loss to now-champion, Leon Edwards back at UFC 278 in August of this year, Usman is expected to make a comeback to face the Birmingham native in a trilogy rubber match in the opening months of next year.

For Holland, the Riverside striker has been booked to fight two-time welterweight title challenger, Stephen Thompson in the main event of UFC Orlando at the beginning of December.

Holland has yet to feature since he co-headlined UFC 279 against short notice opponent, Khamzat Chimaev in a catchweight fight, suffering a dominant and one-sided first round D’Arce choke submission loss.

Akin to the above-mentioned altercation featuring both Diaz and polarizing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert, Danis, multiple bodies and members of each team’s entourage managed to separate the combatants before any significant altercation.

Holland’s latest backstage engagement comes off the back of a high-profile run-in with the aforenoted, Chimaev prior to their scheduled UFC 279 clash, which forced the cancellation of a pre-fight press conference organized by the promotion.

Former UFC welterweight champion ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman was featured in Marvel’s new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever feature motion picture. The star of Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, passed away in 2020, and the filming for the second film still went ahead with an adjusted story.

The Nigerian-American athlete sat down with Olympian Daniel Cormier and Super Bowl Champion Ryan Clark to discuss the film. When it came to respecting the passing of Boseman, Usman explained:

“The whole life of the movie, the whole life of the set, shooting, it was an emotional journey for all those actors and actresses that were there on set. Because, and I wasn’t around for the first movie, but being a part of the second one, you got to see how much he meant to the movie, and how much he actually had his hands in the making of the movie. So it was very emotional. I mean shooting some of the scenes there was some tough days on set with some of the actors and actresses because they were so connected to him and everything that he meant to that franchise.”

Usman continued and added that the accomplished director Ryan Coogler became the glue that kept the film together. Usman continued:

“That’s the great thing about Ryan [Coogler], the director. Ryan is such an amazing director and I think they did a great job of really paying homage to the late great Chadwick [Boseman].”

Kamaru Usman on re-capturing his world title

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman was an NCAA Division II standout wrestler before transitioning to MMA. The Nigerian-American athlete put together a very impressive 15-fight win streak, plus capturing the UFC welterweight world title in 2019. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ ruled this division with an iron fist until Leon Edwards captured the crown earlier this year.

On getting back into the Octagon, Usman explained that he needs to take his time and not rush. He explained:

“I’m ready to get back, I’m ready to get to the other one, to the next one, and the next one. So now, they just got to make sure that they take protective measures to hold me back so I can make sure that I can fight properly.”

Kamaru Usman is ready to reclaim his welterweight title and show the world that he’s still the best 170-pounder.

The former Welterweight champ and pound-for-pound best, Kamaru Usman is ready to fly to the UK to get his title back from Leon Edwards. Despite suffering a shocking KO loss, it hasn’t shaken Usman’s confidence or his self-belief as he believes he is still the best Welterweight on the planet.

Usman recently sat down for an interview and had this to say.

“I dealt with (the loss) how I’m supposed to deal with it. I’m a champion. I’m still a champion in my head. And that’s the thing too, like, come on guys, who y’all kidding? The world knows who the best welterweight in the world is. Shout out to Leon, it was a beautiful kick at the right time… Leon and I know who the best welterweight in the world is. He knows.” (H/T MMANews)

Kamaru Usman firmly believes he is still better than Leon Edwards

This past August, at UFC 278, Kamaru Usman attempted to defend his title for the 6th time and everything looked to be going Usman’s way as he dominated Leon Edwards for a large part of 4 and a half rounds. But with less than a minute left in the fight, Edwards landed one of the all-time head kicks, which KO’d Usman instantly.

Since then, Usman has handled the loss very well, giving props to Edwards and even speaking on the relief he felt now that he no longer is chasing several different winning records. Despite all of this, it seems as if Usman’s confidence in himself has shaken as he believes he will get the better of Edwards in their trilogy bout.

No official news about the potential trilogy has come out, but all signs point to Leon Edwards defending his Welterweight title against Kamaru Usman sometime in the first quarter of 2023 in the UK.
