Talks are reportedly underway for a professional boxing match between Olympic gold medalist and undefeated lightweight champion, Bray native, Katie Taylor and undisputed Bellator MMA featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg to take place before the close of this year.

As per an initial report by Sports Illustrated reporter, Chris Mannix, negotiations have taken place for a professional boxing match between Taylor and Cyborg – also, with the view to a rematch between the Wicklow native and Amanda Serrano in Dublin next year.

“Negotiations are ongoing for @KatieTaylor to face MMA star @CrisCyborg in a boxing, sources told @SINow,” Mannix tweeted. “No deal yet, but the hope is for Taylor to face Cyborg in December – and then move forward with a rematch against Amanda Serrano in Ireland next spring.”

Headlining in April at Madison Square Garden, decorated Irish puncher, Katie Taylor managed to successfully defend her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles against the aforenoted, Cuba native, Serrano – defeating her in a close, split decision win over the course of 10 gruelling rounds

As for 36-year-old Curitiba native, Cyborg, the former undisputed Strikeforce, Invicta FC, and UFC featherweight champion, managed to lock up her fourth successful defense of the Bellator MMA title back in April to boot at Bellator 279, landing a judging win over Arlene Blencowe in a championship rematch.

During her Bellator run, Cyborg has landed five consecutive victories, including other wins over Julia Budd, the aforenoted, Blencowe, Leslie Smith, and Taylor’s compatriot, Sinead Kavanagh.

The epic lightweight title showdown between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano topped over 1 million viewers on DAZN last week.

DAZN announced that the bout did 1.5 million viewers for the Madison Square Garden event on April 30. The undefeated Taylor put her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles on the line against Serrano. Serrano entered the bout on a 28-fight win streak, not having lost since 2012.

Both women went all 10 rounds in what was an extremely close and entertaining fight. However, when it was all said and done, the judges awarded the bout to the champion, Taylor, via split decision. With the win, Katie Taylor improves her unblemished record to 21-0.

As for Serrano, she was handed her first loss in almost 10 years when she lost a decision to Frida Wallberg in Sweden. Taylor was represented by boxing promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, while Serrano was represented by YouTube star Jake Paul, who has been making a name for himself in the boxing world with his own in-ring work.

Holly Holm ‘Super Intrigued’ By Potential Boxing Return, Fight Against Katie Taylor

Former UFC bantamweight champion, Holly Holm has admitted that a potential return to professional boxing in the future, appeals to her – as does a possible fight against recent big winner, lightweight champion, Katie Taylor – amid constant speculation regarding a bout between the two.

Holm, a former UFC bantamweight champion and two-time featherweight title challenger, is slated to headline UFC Vegas 55 later this month in a potential 135lb title eliminator against Brazilian contender, Ketlen Vieira.

The Albuquerque fan-favorite has been sidelined through injury since October 2020, most recently landing a unanimous decision win over Mexican striker, Irene Aldana in the main event of UFC Fight Island 4 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Holm was penned to fight now-current bantamweight titleholder, Julianna Pena since her win over Aldana, however, has been forced to limit activity due to numerous injury setbacks.

Holly Holm and Katie Taylor have been linked with a boxing clash for countless years

Linked with a potential fight against the aforenoted, Taylor off the back of her stunning 2015 knockout upset win over Ronda Rousey, a pairing of the Bray native, and Holm failed to ever come to fruition.

However, off the back of Olympic gold medalist, Taylor’s split decision win over Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden last weekend, a potential matchup with Holm has surfaced again.

“We had talked, (Katie) Taylor and myself, before I wound up going to MMA,” Holly Holm said during an interview on The MMA Hour. “We had talked about a possible fight there. I always want to do something that hasn’t been done. I always get super intrigued by things, and I fought at three weight division, ‘40, ‘47, ‘54, and I never got to fight at ‘35. But I’ve done most of my MMA career at ‘35, and that’s what their fight was at. So it makes me like, ‘I want to go back in and show what I can do at a whole different weight class.’”

“I never even fought at that weight class when I was in boxing and I think I’m bigger and stronger than a lot of the 135ers, and I still have conditioning and I still have a lot of that ring experience behind me,” Holly Holm continued.

According to Holm, a return to the squared circle – in tandem with an allusive Taylor tangle would be intriguing to her.

“It does intrigue me, a lot,” Holly Holm said. “To the point where before, I was like, ‘I’ll never box again,’ and I’m not saying that. There’s been a lot of people that have been able to transition back and forth, but nobody’s really been able to do it successfully, and that drives me. I want to show people I was able to come to MMA from boxing but I can also go back. It does get me excited.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm is open to a return to boxing to face the pound-for-pound best Katie Taylor.

Holm is slated to face Ketlen Viera in her MMA return on May 21. She hasn’t fought in the Octagon since her unanimous decision win over Irene Aldana in Oct. 2020.

Holm made the full-time transition from boxing to MMA back in 2013 after retaining her IBA and WBF light-welterweight titles in a win over Mary McGee. She went on to a successful run in the Octagon, which has included an unforgettable title upset over Ronda Rousey.

A lot has changed in women’s boxing since Holm signed with the UFC. Taylor has emerged as arguably the best female boxer in the sport and most recently earned a split decision win over Amanda Serrano this past weekend.

Taylor has previously teased potential crossover fights with Holm and Cris Cyborg, while Holm has also teased a return to the ring.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Holm was asked about the chances of a mega-fight with Taylor happening at some point.

“We had talked, Taylor and myself, before I wound up going to MMA. We had talked about a possible fight there,” Holm said. “I always want to do something that hasn’t been done. I always get super intrigued by things, and I fought at three weight divisions, ‘40, ‘47, and ‘54, and I never got to fight at ‘35. But I’ve done most of my MMA career at ‘35, and that’s what their fight was at. I want to show people I was able to come to MMA from boxing, but I can also go back. It does get me excited.”

Holm is a part of the 2022 Boxing Hall of Fame class that includes Miguel Cotto and James Toney. She has accumulated a 33-2-3 record in the boxing ring.

If Holm fails to get back to a UFC title shot, a move to boxing may be in the cards. A superfight with Taylor would be one of the most highly anticipated fights in women’s boxing in recent memory.

“Who The F*ck Is This Jackass”: McGregor Mocks Paul, Paul Responds

Conor McGregor has taken a brutal swipe at Jake Paul’s sense of fashion, likening it to that of one of the world’s most notorious sex offenders.

Paul, a YouTuber-turned-boxer and now promoter of Amanda Serrano, watched his client lose via split decision tonight to Katie Taylor in perhaps the biggest female boxing match in history. Not only was it a devastating blow to Paul’s pride, but also to his bank account. The 25-year-old had laid down $1 million in a bet with his co-promoter, Eddie Hearn.

And if that wasn’t enough salt rubbed into Paul’s wounds, in stepped long-time agitator and proud Katie Taylor supporter Conor McGregor to rub in a bit more. The Irishman took to Twitter to mock Paul’s choice of fashion accessory as the YouTuber watched Serrano lose ringside.

“Who the fuck is this jackass in the pink Jimmy Saville glasses?” tweeted McGregor, likening the YouTuber to one of history’s most prolific celebrity sex offenders.

Paul, however, isn’t one to turn the other cheek. Feeling the sting of loss for the first time in his boxing career, the 5-0 fighter clapped back at The Notorious One, providing a laundry list of reasons why he’s the better man.

“Im the one who has done more for fighters than you ever have; the one who has won 5 fights in the past 2 years while you have lost 5; the one who isn’t owned by Dana White; the one who made the fight you just watched happen; the 1 who got your hero Katie Taylor paid; that’s who,” tweeted Paul.

This isn’t the first time McGregor has branded Paul a jackass. He famously did so just last month after Jake criticized a video showcasing the Irishman’s boxing skills. McGregor has, however, been reluctant to engage with the regular mud-slinging from Paul. But his latest tweet could be a sign of plenty more online skirmishes between the duo.

Paul has been relentlessly angling to set up a fight with the former UFC double-champ and believes he would KO Conor in boxing or MMA. But with McGregor not deigning to even dignify Jake’s pestering with a response, the YouTuber now appears to be setting his sights on Mike Tyson.

What are your thoughts on this latest tit-for-tat between Jake Paul and Conor McGregor?

Conor McGregor called out Jake Paul for his outfit choice during the Amanda Serrano vs Katie Taylor fight.

Paul has been in the corner of Serrano while McGregor has been backing his fellow Irish fighter in Taylor. Taylor ultimately beat Serrano via split decision to retain the undisputed title. It was an absolute barnburner of a fight and one of the best fights in recent memory. Some would even argue that it was the best women’s fight in the history of the sport.

Serrano is currently signed to Paul’s promotion, MVP (Most Valuable Promotions), and is currently the only fighter signed to the promotion. Paul has been backing her in the entire lead and even had a bet with Eddie Hearn for $1 Million but wasn’t formally made due to a conflict of interest on Hearn’s side of things.

immediately after Taylor won by split decision, Paul took to Twitter to go to bat for his fighter. He simply tweeted out “Robbed”.

Conor McGregor took no time to call Paul out for what he was wearing as well, Which started a back and forth between the two

“Who the fuck is this jackass in the pink Jimmy Saville glasses?” McGregor tweeted out

Paul quickly fired a barrage of insults back at him in a lengthy tweet.

“Im the one who has done more for fighters than you ever have the one who has won 5 fights in the past 2 years while you have lost 5 the one who isn’t owned by Dana White the one who made the fight you just watched happen the 1 who got your hero Katie Taylor paid that’s who” Paul quote tweeted in a reply to McGregor.

Conor hilariously tweeted out a picture of Jimmy Savile in response to Paul.
