Khabib Nurmagomedov has looked virtually unstoppable thus far in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

“The Eagle” currently holds a perfect record of 27-0 and reigns as the UFC lightweight champion of the world. Khabib will unify his 155-pound strap with Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 next month in Abu Dhabi. The Russian grappler is the betting favorite heading into the fight.

Speaking on the “Pull No Punches” podcast, former UFC fighter Kenny Florian offered his thoughts on Khabib and named a few fighters he believes has the potential to beat the undefeated grappler. Florian started off by giving an interesting name in Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Ryan Hall. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“Ryan Hall,” Florian said. “It sounds crazy because he’s a 145-pounder, but you either need to be an absolute ninja on the ground, right? You need someone who can always put you on defense — someone like a Ryan Hall on the ground. Or you need someone who can absolutely keep it on the feet.”

Florian then went on to name two more interesting names that he believes can beat Khabib. Those being Georges St-Pierre and Justin Gaethje.

“We have Georges St-Pierre,” Florian said. “He does have a very high level of wrestling. He’s also very big. That probably not going to happen. GSP it seems is retired for good now. As she should, he absolutely deserves that and has done everything in the sport that you can do.

“Justin Gaethje. He comes from a wrestling background and he does hit extremely hard. I think he’s one of the few guys who might be able to give Khabib a tough time. If he does stuff the takedowns he does have the power in the striking to knockout Khabib.”

What do you think about Florian’s picks for who he thinks can beat Khabib?

10 Worst Weight Cuts In UFC History

These 10 fighters had the worst weight cuts in UFC history:

Weight cutting has been an integral issue at the forefront of the conversation in MMA lately.

It seems like every card is ruined by a fighter missing weight, and usually by a large margin. Main event fighters like Darren Till, Yoel Romero, and Kevin Lee have soiled recently featured bouts, and fight fans are rightfully getting frustrated.

Solutions from more weight classes to eliminating early weigh-ins have been considered, but thus far, nothing substantial has been done to address this glaringly obvious issue in MMA.

You won’t believe the amount of weight some fighters have clocked in at. Even worse, many of them are repeat offenders, making every weigh-in a gamble as to if they will actually make weight.

However, some of the fighters on this list who struggle with their weight cuts have been champions; for example:

10. Renan Barao – UFC 177

The former bantamweight champion had some serious difficulty making the 135-pound limit and didn’t even come close at UFC 177. Barao was attempting to take the title he had lost to TJ Dillashaw beforehand, but the rematch didn’t end up happening at UFC 177.

Rumor has it that he was cutting down from 163 pounds, making it a nearly 30-pound weight cut.

Barao’s weight cut was so bad that he actually passed out while in the sauna as he tried to sweat out water weight in an effort to make the bantamweight limit. Barao smacked his head on the bathtub upon blacking out and was forced out of the fight as a result.

Joe Soto ultimately filled in for Barao, making this a seriously messed up weight cut on Barao’s part. Blacking out and not even making it to a title fight is as bad as it gets.

Barao now fights at featherweight, which is still likely a difficult cut, but at least it hasn’t caused him to blackout.

Just because Georges St-Pierre is on the sidelines doesn’t mean people can’t come up with super fights involving him.

The former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion returned to competition in November after four years away from the sport to win the middleweight title with a submission victory in the third round over Michael Bisping at UFC 217.

However, shortly after the fight, he had to vacate the title as he is dealing with colitis.

The biggest question this year is if GSP will fight again and if that does actually happen, who would the UFC book him against. That question remains to be seen.

UFC analyst Kenny Florian recently appeared on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani to talk about who GSP could fight in his return bout.

He has two ideas, which are against Conor McGregor or UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I think he’s going to fight in some kind of super fight scenario,” Florian responded, when asked if GSP would return to the cage. “I don’t think it’s going to be against a champion necessarily, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some kind of non-title fight that’s going to be big, and why not?

“Again, if there is one guy who deserves it, it’s Georges St-Pierre. He’s a guy that’s proven time and time again that he’s a big pay-per-view star and I think there are a lot of fun fights that you can make as well.”

“Who would he fight?” Florian continued (transcript via MMA Fighting). “I think someone like a Khabib Nurmagomedov would be interesting. I don’t know if they’d make it a catch weight or something like that, but another person of course would be Conor McGregor.

“I think no matter what way you look at it those are the two biggest names in the sport. You’d have the biggest name in the sport from a past generation taking on the current biggest name, Conor McGregor. I think that would be a mega fight.”

Make no mistake about it, St-Pierre is one of the most decorated fighters in UFC history. Also, he’s only the fourth fighter in UFC history to win belts in two weight classes.
