Kevin Holland got back into the win column in a big way on Saturday night during the UFC 287 main card.
Emanating from Miami-Dade Arena, Kevin Holland delivered another memorable performance that ended with him scoring a highlight-reel-worthy knockout of his Argentinian opponent, Santiago Ponzinibbio. Throughout the first two rounds, Holland took a much more measured approach, opting to utilize his length and reach advantage. To combat that, Ponzinibbio brilliantly attacked the lead leg of Holland in an effort to disrupt his movement.
The strategy worked well for Ponzinibbio throughout the first 13 minutes of the contest. With less than two minutes to go in the bout, Ponzinibbio threw another calf kick that was caught by Holland. Taking his opponent off balance, Holland uncorked a massive left hand that caught Ponzinibbio clean and immediately rendered him unconscious. Before he could do any further damage, the referee stepped in, calling for the stoppage.
Ponzinibbio protested the stoppage, but the replay clearly showed that his lights were out as he crashed face-first to the canvas.
Official Result: Kevin Holland def. Santiago Ponzinibbio via KO (strikes) at 3:16 of Round 3

Both featuring on this weekend’s UFC 287 card in Miami, Florida – hometown favorite and two-time title challenger, Masvidal returns to the Octagon in a showdown against Gilbert Burns.
As for Riverside striker, Holland, the contender returns to the ‘Sunshine State’ for his second consecutive fight, taking on Argentine veteran, Santiago Ponzinibbio.
And following last night’s ceremonial weigh-ins, it appears the two were involved in somewhat of an altercation again.
In footage captured by TMZ Sports, Jorge Masvidal and Holland are kept separated by coaches and bystanders on the streets of Miami, with the former attempting to engage with the Californian, despite the best efforts of his team to keep him under wraps.
Speaking with the outlet, Holland’s manager, Oren Hodak explained how his client said, “sup, baby girl” to Masvidal – resulting in both this latest altercation and the earlier scuffle at the fighter hotel on Wednesday.
Jorge Masvidal has been sidelined for over a year
Without a win in his last three straight Octagon outings, Masvidal most recently dropped a unanimous decision loss to Colby Covington at UFC 272 back in March of last year.
As for Holland, the former middleweight contender headlined UFC Fight Night Orlando back in December of last year, suffering a fourth round TKO loss to former title challenger and common-opponent, Stephen Thompson.
UFC 287 takes place at the Miami-Dade Center in Miami, Florida – with an undisputed middleweight championship rematch between, champion, Alex Pereira – and former titleholder, Israel Adesanya taking headlining honors.

On Wednesday afternoon, footage emerged online showing Kevin Holland and Jorge Masvidal engaging in a war of words in a Miami hotel lobby as they were taking part in the afternoon’s UFC 287 media day. Holland made reference to the incident in an Instagram post but did not provide any details as to what caused the spat.
In an interview with InsideFighting, Kevin Holland’s striking coach Durwyn Lamb shed some light on the scuffle.
“I don’t know much about it. I just know that they did run into each other and there were some words exchanged,” Lamb said. “I think the background that Kevin actually kind of liked Masvidal before that, but I think what happened was that [Kevin] didn’t like the sucker punch deal with the Leon [Edwards] stuff.
“He didn’t like the stuff with Colby Covington and it just kind of rubbed the wrong way so it kinda changes view of him. That’s kinda how that started. Some words exchanged online. Here and there, back and forth and they just ran into each other.”
Kevin Holland Doesn’t Approve of Jorge Masvidal Sucker Punching People
As most MMA fans are aware, Jorge Masvidal is currently awaiting a criminal trial scheduled to get underway next month. ‘Gamebred’ allegedly attacked former friend turned bitter rival Colby Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse in March 2022, just weeks removed from their UFC 272 bout. Three years prior, Masvidal was involved in another incident with Leon Edwards backstage following an event in London. It was there that Masvidal delivered a series of backstage strikes that he later dubbed a ‘three-piece and a soda.’
“[Kevin] didn’t like that persona and the way he was kind of carrying himself like on some G stuff so it was kind of like, he didn’t like that,” Lamb continued. “Kind of almost a bully type of thing and he didn’t feel like that was cool.
“Sucker punching people like that, it didn’t sit right in his spirit. One thing about Kevin, he’s not shy about what he feels and what he says. What he feels is what he’s gonna say.”
Kevin Holland will look to get back in the win column at UFC 287 after dropping back-to-back bouts against Khamzat Chimaev and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. He’ll be tasked with taking on Argentinian striker Santiago Ponzinibbio. Jorge Masvidal will compete on the same card, stepping into the spotlight for a co-main event clash with No. 5 ranked welterweight contender Gilbert Burns.

Kevin Holland Addressed the Altercation with Jorge Masvidal on Instagram
Before footage of the incident emerged online, Kevin Holland addressed the confrontation and suggested that the UFC would probably switch up his opponent again, a reference to the UFC 279 change-up that saw him go from fighting Daniel Rodriguez to Khamzat Chimaev after things got physical between the two during a media event.
“Let me just go ahead and say it, that video’s going to come out, and then they’re probably going to do an opponent change again! F*ck!” Holland said on Instagram.
