Former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov is said to have been left awestruck by last weekend’s Bellator MMA vs. Rizin event in Saitama, Japan – describing the cross-promoted event as “unbelievable” according to Bellator president, Scott Coker.

Khabib, a former undisputed lightweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from active competition back in October 2020 on ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE – improving to 29-0 with a second round triangle submission win over then-interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje

In the time since, the Dagestan native has turned his hand successfully to coaching – guiding both Islam Makhachev, and Usman Nurmagomedov to lightweight gold under the UFC and Bellator MMA banners, respectively, as well as heading up Florida-based promotion, Eagle FC.

Scott Coker details attending Bellator MMA vs. Rizin alongside Khabib Nurmagomedov

Attending Bellator MMA vs. Rizin on New Year’s Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, Khabib, who sat alongside the above-mentioned, Coker, is said to have been left in amazement by the event and pageantry.

“It’s very interesting, because he (Khabib Nurmagomedov) wasn’t here in the heyday,” Scott Coker told assembled media at the post-fight press conference. “I got to see those fights. A lot ofyou know that [I’ve been] in the martial arts business a long time, I started working for K-1 in 199, so I got to see all the great fights in K-1. I got to see the great fights of PRIDE. And Khabib has never see the production and the fans, and he was freaking out.”

“He was telling me, ‘This is unbelievable,’” Scott Coker said of Khabib Nurmagomedov. “He kept telling me, ‘This is unbelievable. I had no idea that something like this was happening in Japan.’ And I said, ‘This is where it started, Khabib.’ This is where MMA and martial arts combat – it started here, it grew throughout the rest of the world, but there was a time when Japan had the best fighters in the world, the best production in the world, the best promotion in the world, and that’s why the UFC bought it (PRIDE). Just like my company, Strikefroce, I think we had a great roster, great events, so they (the UFC) bought it.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Conor McGregor is not necessarily known for having a track record of burying the hatchet when it comes to people that he has had beef with.

The tension has never risen as high as it did during the build to UFC 229, where his feud with Khabib Nurmagomedov became very personal.

Though Dustin Poirier also regularly finds himself back in McGregor’s firing line, there is nobody that “The Notorious” likes to fire at more than his former lightweight rival.

This is especially true at the moment given the current saga that is playing out between Nurmagomedov and the Russian government over unpaid tax.

“The Eagle” reportedly owes a rough figure of $3.5 million and if you thought that McGregor would decide to keep quiet in this period, you don’t know the man.

Fans React To Conor McGregor Posting Screenshots Of DMs Sent To Khabib Nurmagomedov

McGregor’s latest jab that he fired at the former lightweight champion came in the form of a screenshot.

Surprisingly, at least on this social media platform, the post shows McGregor sending a direct message to Nurmagomedov for the first time on Instagram.

In reference to the former fighter’s current situation, “The Mac” sent him a message and jokingly offered to buy his house because he cannot afford it.

Fight fans reacted to McGregor once again hoping to have the last laugh on social media.

“Conor lost the match but he planning on winning the war”

“doesn’t hit like it should knowing he got 10-7’d in the cage unfortunately”

“Didn’t Khabib spit on this guy and utterly ruin his career Lmao”

“My boy did a bump and chose a file”

“Left on delivered and forcing the beef in 2024”

““Brotha where is the toilet roll” i’m crying”

UFC 304’s Paddy Pimblett Bemoans Jared Gordon ‘Robbery’ Still Being Brought Up: ‘People Need To Watch Khabib vs. Gleison Tibau!’

UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett believes fans are focusing more on his controversial decision victory over Jared Gordon than some actual “robberies.” Pimblett is set to return to action for his first assignment of 2024 at this weekend’s UFC 304 pay-per-view event, where the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England, will play host to his first […]

UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett believes fans are focusing more on his controversial decision victory over Jared Gordon than some actual “robberies.”

Pimblett is set to return to action for his first assignment of 2024 at this weekend’s UFC 304 pay-per-view event, where the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England, will play host to his first opportunity to crack the rankings at 155 pounds.

To do so, “The Baddy” must extend his perfect Octagon record at the expense of King Green. The Liverpudlian will enter the contest as an underdog and with significant portions of the MMA community doubting his chances.

That trend has been evident ever since a narrow victory over Jared Gordon at UFC 282 in December 2022. Having boosted his stock to an all-time high with back-to-back highlight reel submission in London that year, a controversial decision going in his favor appeared to turn a strong chunk of the fanbase against Pimblett.

And the fact that his win over Gordon is still used as a way to detract from his UFC career thus far remains a point of frustration for the ex-Cage Warriors champion…

Pimblett: Gordon Fight Was ‘Close’, Not A ‘Robbery’

During an interview with the New York Post Sports’ Erich Richter, Pimblett looked ahead to his first outing on home soil since 2022 and discussed the two results he’s had in the United States since.

While he’s another fight on from the widely debated decision against Gordon, Pimblett noted that he still gets plenty of comments about it. “The Baddy” bemoaned that fact, pointing to what sees as legitimate robberies that don’t get the level of scrutiny as his “close” bout with Gordon does 19 months later.

“It was a close decision. I do regret saying in the cage after, ‘No way, that wasn’t close!’ But lad, I just fought for 15 minutes,” Pimblett said. “I still get comments on my YouTube to this day, ‘It seems like Paddy’s got more humble now since he fought Jared Gordon.’ Like, what? I’m still the same person. … The fact I said, ‘I think I won that fight,’ people turned on me. I found that absolutely crazy.

“I ended up watching the fight back and was like, ‘Yeah, that was a close fight.’ … But I think if you watch it with commentary, that sways you a lot more towards Jared,” Pimblett continued. “It was a close fight, but I don’t get to this day why it still gets brought up and people still say that it’s a robbery. If that’s a robbery, people need to go watch Khabib vs. Gleison Tibau! Even Jared’s last fight, that’s more of a robbery.”

Nevertheless, while he’s struggled to escape the memory of that controversy in the year and a half since, Pimblett has insisted that the fanbase will be back on his side after he dispatches King Green in violent fashion come fight night in Manchester.

The pair are tasked with setting the stage for two championship headliners, as Pimblett’s fellow countrymen Leon Edwards and Tom Aspinall put their titles on the line.

Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to enforce haircut code that father implemented within his gym

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken the lead of the Club Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov School in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia, where he’s quickly become one of the premier coaches in the sport.

For instance, two of his fathers former students, now his current students Islam Makhachev and Usman Nurmagomedov just claimed the UFC and Bellator lightweight world championships over the last couple months.

The former pound-for-pound great runs a tight ship, and it’s clear to see why his team has so much success in the sports of Sambo and MMA.

Nurmagomedov has implemented a hair cut code for the gym, much like Korea has implemented for their citizens.

In fact, his students will receive a lashing with a bamboo stick should their hair cuts not meet the requirments.

Nurmagomedov is shown in the video above walking down his assembled line of students, pulling any of them out with unacceptable hair cuts. To all those singled out, they get a hard whipping with the stick. Luckily for them, it isn’t a true lashing, but he does hit them hard enough in hopes they’ll follow suit.

Nurmagomedov is known to have short hair, he always has. The gym requirement is something his father Abdulmanap instated years ago, therefore, Khabib feels the need to keep the tradition going in memory of one of the greatest MMA coaches of all-time.

The idea is that the hair is long enough to keep sweat from dripping down their faces, but short enough that it doesn’t create much friction during grappling exchanges.

Has Khabib Nurmagomedov done a good job in following his fathers footsteps?

Former UFC heavyweight, Brendan Schaub isn’t happy with Makhachev’s career plan.

It seems, much like his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov, reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is too headed for an early retirement.

Nurmagomedov would call it a career following his third title defense against Justin Gaethje in October 2020 at the age of 32. ‘The Eagle’ laid out a similar plan for long-time friend, Makhacehev,  which could realistically see him fight for only the next few years..

“I think he needs at least five title defenses, maybe six, that would be ideal, Nurmagomedov said. “Six defenses that’s around three years, then it’s possible that the sport leaves him because nobody can stay on top forever.

Brendan Schaub reacts

Talking on his podcast, Schaub slammed the plan, labeling the plan as ‘stupid’ and ‘weak’.

Khabib backed out right? So if a guy did come who can wrestle and negate Makhachev’s and Khabib’s wrestling, you just retire? That’s stupid,” Schaub said. “That’s not what champions do, it’s like, ‘He should do as many title defenses as he can before father time catches up to him.’ You don’t wanna say ‘the game catches up to him’. Hold up, if somebody comes along who poses a threat, he just retires? That’s some weak s**t.” (H/TB JPenn.com)

Makhacehv is scheduled to take on Alexander Volkanovski in February, where the Australian will attempt to capture Makhachev’s title along with double champ status.

If he were to be victorious, a win over Volkanvski and Charles Oliveira in the space of just four months would cement himself as one of the best in the sport.

Do you agree with Brendan Schaub’s take?

Brendan Schaub dislikes Khabib Nurmagomedov’s stance on Islam Makhachev’s three-year future: “That’s some weak s**t.”

Brendan Schaub isn’t a supporter of Khabib Nurmogomedov’s prediction surrounding UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

During a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, Nurmagomedov predicted that his teammate will finish his career in possibly three years.

I think he needs at least five. Maybe six. That would be ideal. Six defenses, that’s six fights and three years. Then it’s possible that the sport leaves him because nobody can stay on top forever,” Nurmagomedov said. “The way the Almighty created a man, he first becomes strong then weak. He’s young then he’s old. Knowing that, the goal is five-six defenses,” explained the former UFC lightweight champion.

Brendan Schaub Disagrees With The Prediction

Schaub responded to the former champion’s comments during The Schaub Show. He didn’t share the same viewpoint in terms of leaving the sport after a loss.

“Khabib backed out right? So if a guy did come who can wrestle and negate Makhachev’s and Khabib’s wrestling, you just retire? That’s stupid,” Schaub said. “That’s not what champions do…It’s like, ‘He should do as many title defenses as he can before father time catches up to him.’ You don’t wanna say ‘the game catches up to him’. Nurmagomedov is familiar with UFC gold. He won the UFC lightweight title in April 2018 and remained champion until his retirement in October 2020. He ended his 29-0 career after defending the title three times with wins over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

AKA teammate Islam Makhachev won his first UFC title this past October. He was able to submit Charles Oliveira in the second round to claim gold. Now, the 31-year-old is scheduled to face featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. It will be arguably the toughest test in Makhachev’s run when he faces the #1 pound-for-pound men’s UFC star.
