Former UFC champion, Henry Cejudo has praised Conor McGregor for his performance against Khabib Nurmagomedov in their 2018 mega-fight.

The saga between Conor McGregor and arch-rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most historic in MMA history.

The feud had been brewing for some time before the bout took place, the build-up was ugly and at times uncomfortable; resulting in one of the UFC’s most infamous moments when McGregor would throw a dolly through the fighter bus window.

The fight was more than just a fight, it was a deeply personal affair and a loss would follow either man for the rest of their career.

Ultimately, Nurmagomedov would prove too much for McGregor, submitting the Irishman in the fourth round of their fight, something which McGregor is still reminded of and criticized for often.

Although many like to remind McGregor of his loss, former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo, took the time to praise McGregor for doing ‘an amazing job’ against Nurmagomedov.

“He did a really good job,” Henry Cejudo said via his YouTube. “A little far shot a little too far away. That just tells you he really respected Conor’s defense. Conor could have got out but he played the distance a little. When it comes to top control and dominant wrestling right now, I believe Khabib is one of the greatest of all time.”

When it comes to dominating his position, so that fight with Conor McGregor, he did an amazing job of being a competitor in the beginning of the round in catching his distance. He was still able to exhaust McGregor, make him think of a lot of things you know looking down to eventually come up with that right hand. This was the best Khabib did in his career especially against a guy like Conor McGregor.”(H/T Mirror)

It is unsure when McGregor will return but the two-weight UFC champion did post some recent sparring clips over a year on from his gruesome leg break.

Michael Chandler disagrees with ‘premature praise’ for Islam Makhachev: ‘He hasn’t really fought anybody’

Michael Chandler has criticized fans and media who have lumped praise onto Islam Makhachev as he prepares to take on Charles Oliveira at UFC 280.

‘Iron Mike’ was last in action last May against Tony Ferguson (26-8 MMA) at UFC 274.

Chandler was able to come out on top early into the second round with a highlight reel front kick knockout after being dropped by ‘El Cucuy’ in round one.

One of his previous dance partners, Charles Oliveira also last competed on the same card as he was booked to defend his 155lbs division belt against fan favorite Justin Gaethje (23-4 MMA). Thus before weighing in over the championship limit which resulted in ‘Do Bronx’ being stripped of his world title.

However, the 32-year-old walked through the fire and still handed in the best performance of the night.

Michael Chandler questions the hype of Islam Makhachev

Chandler who has fought Oliveira before understands more than most about what sort of challenge that can be and has continued to question if Makhachev is that man to dethrone the ‘Champ’.

Speaking to ‘MMAFighting’, Michael Chandler chose to further dissect Islam Makhachev’s record as he began to question whom the Dagestani native has won against and whether it really warrants the opinion that Islam Makhachev is prepared and ready to beat Charles Oliveira.

Nothing against Islam, you say he looks great, you say he looks unbeatable at times, but he hasn’t really fought anybody. That’s really the truth, He beat No. 14 and then beat Dan Hooker, who has been on a three or four-fight losing streak.

Now people will say, ‘well, one of your wins was against Dan Hooker, what are you talking about?’ Chandler exclaimed.

I fought Dan Hooker at the same time. He had just gone 25 minutes with Dustin Poirier, who at the time was the No. 2 Lightweight on the entire planet.

Despite the criticism, Michael Chandler has already admitted that he would give Islam his flowers if he was able to shock the world and beat Oliveira at UFC 280, although, he can’t bring himself to do that just yet.

I’m not saying that [Islam] not that good,” Chandler said. “We just can’t say that he’s that good yet. It’s premature praise.

Do you think Michael Chandler has a point, or will Islam Makhachev shock the world?

Sean O’Malley doubts the Islam Makhachev buzz: “It’s crazy how hyped-up he is, just because Khabib says how good he is”

Sean O’Malley isn’t convinced by the hype surrounding Islam Makhachev. The UFC bantamweight believes that Khabib Nurmogomedov’s influence has played a factor in Makhachev’s rise in the company.

O’Malley disagrees with Makhachev being labeled as one of the best in the UFC. The 27-year-old will compete on the same card as Makhachev on Oct. 22 at UFC 280. He will face Petr Yan while Makhachev will take on Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title.

Sean O’Malley Isn’t A Fan of Islam Makhachev

He admits that he hasn’t seen much of Makhachev inside the octagon but still doesn’t see the Russian native as a threat to Oliveira. The #12 bantamweight predicts that Oliveira will finish Makhachev to cap off the pay-per-view.

“I see Charles [Oliveira] marching out there with that high front knee doing his thing,” O’Malley told Helen Yee. “Honestly, I haven’t watched a ton of Islam, more of a little bit of his recent stuff, but it’s crazy how hyped-up he is, literally because Khabib says how good he is. Obviously, he’s went out there and performed really well in his last couple of fights too, but we’re so excited about this guy… We’re not super hyped because of all the crazy performances he’s had, it’s more so just because Khabib thinks this guy’s the best in the world. I would love to see Charles go out there and get the job done.” (h/t Sportskeeda)

UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmogomedov has been outspoken in his support for his long-time training partner. During an appearance on “DC & RC”, Nurmogomedov labeled Makhachev as one of the best in MMA.

“Islam is the real deal, he’s one of the best in the world,” Nurmogomedov said. “I believe he’s top-10 in pound-for-pound right now. Islam is a little bit quiet, he doesn’t like to talk too much but me and (Daniel Cormier) always try to push him.”

Makhachev has won his past 10 fights, dating back to Sept. 2016. He has notable wins over Dan Hooker, Bobby Green, Thiago Moisés and Drew Dober. He trains at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), one of the most respected gyms in MMA.

Champions like Khabib Nurmogomedov, Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold have trained at the California gym. AT UFC 280, the 30-year-old will attempt to prove O’Malley wrong and become AKA’s latest fighter to claim UFC gold.

Ebanie Bridges has responded to former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s comments surrounding the ‘useless’ ring girls used in combat sports.

Since retiring from the sport Khabib has gone on to run his promotion in Eagle FC and therefore it should not come as a surprise that Khabib does not use ring girls in his promotion. Khabib’s opinion has come under fire from many people involved in combat sports after he questioned the need for them to be involved.

“I don’t want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts. What is their function? I have a question, you can show it is the second round that is on the screen.

“There are people who understand martial arts and they are walking. This is my personal opinion Do they develop the sport? Or they help people to see it is the second round now? I realize that it is a history. History knows many mistakes. We read history to avoid mistakes of the past in the future. If we look in the history it says they are useless. That is my personal opinion.” (H/T The Mirror).

Disagreeing with the comments made by Khabib, Ebanie Bridges, who is a former ring girl herself responded to the former UFC lightweight champion’s remarks, reminding those who may share the same sentiment that the girls in these roles are there because they simply love what they do.

Ebanie Bridges defends ring girls following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s comments

Taking the time to speak on Pub Talk, Bridges reminisced on her own experiences as a ring girl and how she felt it was unnecessary to try and take away these roles from the people who are involved.

“I was a ring girl. I love combat sports, I grew up with it, so for me to be at the fights, I loved it. I got paid mad money, probably more than some of the fighters to sit ringside.

“I’d be walking around in a G-string – they don’t do the G-strings these days but back in my heyday, that’s how we used to do it. Why are people who aren’t us, trying to take our jobs away from us? We love it, I loved being a ring girl. I don’t think it’s useless. I loved being part of the entertainment, being paid to watch those fights.”

“You’ve got people saying it is sexist, it’s objectifying. Maybe I want to be objectified. Maybe I want to make money, don’t make my mind up for me. You can’t have boxing without the ring girls.” (Transcribed by Mirror)

Ebanie Bridges is not the only person to come to the defense of ring girls being involved in combat sports. UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko shared the same opinion as Bridges and referenced their involvement throughout the history of combat sports and the value they bring.

Although you should not expect to see ring girls being involved at Eagle FC events the rest of the combat sports community still clearly those individuals and the job they do as a vast majority of major combat sports promotions still have these types of positions in place.
