Lebron James

Lebron James has fired back at UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington, who labelled the superstar basketball player “spineless” after scoring a fifth-round stoppage win over his bitter rival Tyron Woodley at UFC Vegas 11 this past weekend.

Covington spoke to UFC commentator Jon Anik post fight, calling out his fighting rivals Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal. Surprisingly, James was also in the firing line of the very vocal Donald Trump supporter.

“Jon Anik, let me start off by saying, you’ve been doing a tremendous job lately,” Covington said. “You’ve been working so hard tonight, so let me take this off your hands for a minute. Ladies and gentlemen, the silent majority is ready to make some noise. If you thought that was a beating, wait till November 3rd. when Donald Trump gets his hands on ‘Sleepy Joe’ (Joe Biden). That’s gonna be a landslide.“

“I wanna dedicate this fight, to all the first responders, all the military out there, you know this world would not be safe without you guys, you know, you keep us safe – not these woke athletes, I’m sick of these woke athletes. These spineless cowards like LeBron James. And speaking of spineless fake cowards, ‘Marty Fakenews Man’ (Kamaru Usman), ‘Street Judas’ (Jorge Masvidal), we got unfinished business, there’s nowhere to run and there’s nowhere to hide. I’m coming for you, you’re next.”

Speaking to media following the Los Angeles Lakers win in Game 2 of their Western Conference Finals match against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night James fired back at Covington, he said.

“Anybody can talk from outside but if they got into the ring or got into the arena, probably 10 times out of 10, they’d sh*t their pants.”

Do you think UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington would be scared if confronted by basketball star Lebron James?

NBA superstar LeBron James has admitted to being humbled having inspired improvements in high caliber athlete Conor McGregor. The 31-year-old Irish fighter admitted last week that he previously wasn’t doing enough to look after his body. During this admission he compared himself to James and spoke about the money the Basketball player is rumoured to spend on his health and well-being each year. Speaking to Ariel Helwani of ESPN, he said.

“I actually said this to Tony Robbins, right? Because I read something about LeBron James a while back, about maybe a year ago. He spent $1.5 million annually on his health, his self, his everything, his nutritionist – and I spent nothing.

“Only in camp (do) I bring a
team together. That’s not the way to do this, but I drop money on a bleeding
car or a watch. I’m like, ‘Spend on myself, my health, and my fitness.’ That’s
helped me. Then you acquire more. You’re going to acquire even more then.”

In a recent media scrum, James offered his reaction to McGregor’s complimentary comments. The NBA legend admitted he was humbled by McGregors words and happy to inspire the UFC fighter to be better. Speaking to HoopJab, he said.

“To be in all honesty, I play
the game and I train my body. I put the work into my body to hope to inspire
other athletes around the world – other great athletes. If I’m able to rub off
on Conor and other athletes that feel like it’s beneficial to them, I think
that’s a pretty cool thing. It’s humbling for one.

“I take my body very seriously. I’m just trying to maximize my career and see how long I can continue to play the game that I love. It starts with the body. It ends with the mind. If the mind is sharp, then you can go a lot longer than you may think. That’s what it’s all about. You’ve got to be disciplined. It’s all about discipline, as well.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Colby Covington has never had issues going after other professional athletes who do not compete in mixed martial arts (MMA). That didn’t change when Covington went after Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James for his recent comments on the China debacle currently ongoing within the NBA.

Recently, Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey issued out a Tweet (since deleted) showing his support for the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, as China is a communist country. However, given that the NBA has a very lucrative deal with China, and the Rockets are China’s premier NBA team, Morey’s comments were met with a ton of backlash from the league.

LeBron James recently gave his thoughts on the subject, suggesting Morey wasn’t “edcuted” on the issue at hand.

“I don’t want to get into a word or sentence feud with Daryl Morey. But I believe he wasn’t educated on the situation at hand and he spoke. We do all have freedom of speech, but at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you’re not thinking about others and you’re only thinking about yourself,” James said (via The BBC).

As a result, James’ comments received backlash as well from Hong Kong protest supporters. Fans in China were even seen burning his jersey in the streets. This forced a follow-up Tweet from James on Twitter who tried to clarify his stance.

This sparked a response from Covington, who took the opportunity to go off on James for his comments.

What do you think of Covington’s comments towards James?

Stipe Miocic Sounds Off On LeBron James Ditching Cleveland, Signing With Lakers

Is Stipe Miocic up in arms like the rest of Cleveland?

LeBron James is taking his talents to Los Angeles, and Cleveland basketball fans are in an uproar.

“King James” brought his hometown a championship back in 2016 after promising to do so when he returned to the Cavs in 2014. After four years back in Cleveland, however, James wanted a change of scenery and decided to test out the free agency market.

After several months of anticipation, James has officially signed a four-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $154 million. UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, a Cleveland native and avid sports fan, showed his love for the Cavaliers at the team’s NBA title victory parade.

Most would think that Miocic would be disheartened to hear of James’ departure from Cleveland. In a recent interview, however, the heavyweight champ revealed he isn’t mad at all. In fact, he supports James’ decision to do what’s best for him and his basketball legacy (quotes via MMA Mania):

“I’m not mad all, whatever’s best for him, it’s his legacy,” Miocic said. “He brought a title back like he said he would, you can’t be mad at the guy. It’s whatever he wants. At least he didn’t wait until the end like last time.”

Miocic is getting set to defend his heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 226 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this weekend (Sat. July 7, 2018).

Have the dog days of the summer sports calendar ever been so…intense?

This week’s Sports-Culture Power Rankings range from the so-called Fight of the Century (where Dave Schilling is bearing witness) to the future of the Colin Kaepernick debate and the #ImWithKap rally (where Natalie Weiner is holding court).

But, hey: At least there is somehow still NBA trade talk—including, but not limited to, why LeBron James is destined for the Lakers less than a year from now…if Isaiah Thomas even makes it in Cleveland that long.

After we find out who won the week, A Boogie wit da Hoodie is back with a new track and some NBA takes (“Don’t make me look bad, Melo”). And then it’s over to Roger Goodell’s office for some good old-fashioned protest.
