Maria Henderson showed the world that her husband isn’t the only one who can handle himself inside of the cage.

The wife of current Bellator star and former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, Maria made her MMA debut on the historic LFA 100 card. The amateur strawweight bout between her and Amanda Mitchell served as the cards opening bout and both women’s debut. After three hard rounds, Henderson was named the winner by unanimous decision.

Despite her background in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Henderson kept the fight on her feet throughout the contest. Standing in the southpaw stance, she utilized an effective body kick to keep her opponent at bay through the first round. After some words of encourage from her husband in her corner, Henderson pushed Mitchell up against the fence and worked in a number of knees in the clinch. Both fighters were noticeably tired during the third round, but dug deep to exchange big shots until the final horn. After getting the nod, Henderson spoke to Michael Chiesa about the lead-up to the fight.

“It felt great,” Henderson said. “I didn’t know where I was going to fight my first fight, but my husband was out here a couple months ago and talked to Marc, and I had my baby six months ago and it was like three months after my baby was born, and he was like, ‘I got you a fight!’ I was like, ‘Let’s go!’ LFA is a great promotion.”

When asked about where she wanted her career to go, Henderson made it clear that she is taking her fighting future step-by-step. However, that isn’t stopping her from having some fairly lofty goals.

“Obviously, the UFC would be great. I would really love to fight with my husband once. I’m biased, but I think it would be cool. They always have couples in MMA, but I plan to be a staple name like my husband, be the best pound-for-pound. I’m not in it to be an Instagram star. I want to be the best. I want to show moms out there you can do whatever you want. I had a lot of people doubting me, like I couldn’t do it because I’ve had four kids. You see moms with one kid, maybe two kids, but I have four kids, all within five years. I plan on being a staple, and I think I proved that.”

Do you think Maria Henderson could one day be a contender? Let us know!

Pat Miletich will no longer be commentating fights for Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA).

The UFC Hall of Famer revealed Tuesday that he had been fired by the promotion for his involvement in the Capitol protests that took place last week in support of Donald Trump. It eventually led to an insurrection with five deaths, including that of a Capitol police officer.

“I just want to let you guys know that I just got a call from the folks at the LFA and they basically informed me that they were getting a lot of pressure because I was at the Capitol,” Miletich said on Instagram (via MMA Fighting). “I want you guys to know that the people I walked with at the Capitol, none of them that I know of were involved in any of the violence. I walked with white people, Black people, a lot of Chinese people who escaped communist China, who are for freedom. It was across the board it was people of different races, religions.

“But the LFA was getting a lot of pressure and unfortunately they felt they needed to distance themselves from me, which hey, I understand their position. I love all those guys, Ed [Soares] and Sven [Bean] and Mark [Bieri] and everybody, I love them. But the price of freedom is going to be heavy guys. Me losing my job is part of the pain. Even the people that pressured the LFA to get rid of me, I’m doing my best to fight for your freedom.

“… I love those guys over at LFA. I understand their position. I will continue to fight for freedom.”

While Miletich claims he lost his job, LFA officials told MMA Fighting that he has been removed from the broadcast team for the upcoming LFA 97 card on January 15 as of now. A decision will be made on his future once a full investigation is complete.

“First and foremost, the LFA supports the participation of the constitutional right to peaceful protest,” LFA officials said in a statement sent to MMA Fighting. “During preparations for the 2021 debut broadcast, it was brought to the LFA’s attention that photos of questionable nature surfaced on various social media outlets involving fight analyst Pat Miletich.

“While the LFA continues to investigate the situation, the decision was made to remove Mr. Miletich from broadcast duties for this Friday’s LFA 97 event.”

Miletich notably claimed no Trump supporters attacked law enforcement officers during the events that occurred as he implied it was the work of Antifa.

However, his claims are unfounded as per the FBI and it’s not a good look for Miletich overall, especially with a number of protesters involved — notable supporters of Trump — now getting charged with Federal crimes in addition to a number of previous Trump allies now distancing themselves from the President.

What do you think of the LFA’s decision to distance themselves from Miletich?

Following over two years in retirement, former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) lightweight veteran Nick Newell made a triumphant return to mixed martial arts at last night’s (March 9, 2018) Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) 35 from the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas.

Apparently unleashing the pent-up aggression of being gone from the sport, Newell wasted no time submitting opponent Sonny Luque with a neck crank only 2:10 into the first round.

Newell then called out for a shot in the UFC, something that could be coming soon for him if he keeps winning in impressive fashion. Watch the highlights of his return victory here:

On a weekend otherwise devoid of high-profile mixed martial arts (MMA) action, touted Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion and MMA prospect Mackenzie Dern provided a highlight reel finish to bide the time.

After missing weight at strawweight twice in her MMA career, Dern took on veteran Mandy Polk in her 125-debut at tonight’s Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) 24 from the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.

And although she’s mostly known for her grappling skills, Dern showed she has some serious striking power to boot when she dropped Polk with a huge combo starting with an overhand right followed by two left hooks and ending with another huge right that dropped her.

From there it was all elementary, as Dern took a dazed Polk’s back to lock up a super-tight rear-naked choke for the first-round submission victory, securing an explosive flyweight debut to keep her undefeated at 4-0. Check out her latest win right here:
