Dana White has just announced on his Twitter account that tickets for UFC 140 in Toronto will go on sale next weekend, and the main event is Jon “Bones” Jones vs. Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.

Rashad Evans has yet to comment on the situation, having had a history of getting stiffed on his title shot. He was all but guaranteed a shot after his win over Tito Ortiz, but he injured his hand in the process.

Lyoto Machida is coming off a knockout victory over Randy Couture at UFC 129. Machida offered to replace Phil Davis in a bout against Evans, but he wanted too much money, so Dana White didn’t add him to the fight.

Instead, Ortiz took the fight and was defeated by Evans, who injured his hand. Evans recently had the pins in his hand removed and is able to start training again in three weeks.

After his bout with Rampage Jackson, Jon Jones had some issues with his feet. It is interesting how quickly Jones is turning around from his injury, while Evans still waits on the sidelines.

With Jones’ fight against Machida now happening on December 10th, Evans won’t get a shot at Jones until at least February or March.

Will Evans choose to wait out the fight again?

Or, will he choose to fight once he is healed to prevent cage rust?

UFC 140 News: Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida for the Light Heavyweight Title

It has just been announced that Rashad Evans will not have the next title shot after all.

UFC President, Dana White tweeted on Thursday morning, saying:

“Alright Toronto!!! Dec 10th UFC 140 tix go on sale next weekend and ur main event is Bones Jones vs Machida!!!”

This fight was completely unexpected, and came out of the blue. But UFC 140 sure is looking like a great card now.

Jon Jones won the light heavyweight belt back in March, when he defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua via third round TKO. He then went on to defend the belt against Rampage Jackson, who he defeated by fourth-round submission.

Lyoto Machida has been out of action since UFC 129, where he jumping front kicked Randy Couture, knocking him out and sending him into retirement.

Prior to that, Machida dropped two straight fights. One via KO to Shogun Rua, and one via split decision to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

This is huge news, as Rashad Evans gets passed over for a title shot once again.

UFC 140 takes place on December 10th in Toronto, Canada.

The main event for UFC 140 is set, with Jon Jones set to defend his light heavyweight title against former champion Lyoto Machida.

UFC President Dana White announced on Twitter that Jones vs. Machida will be the main event for the card, which takes place on Dec. 10 in Toronto.

The decision to give the next shot at the light heavyweight title to Machida comes as a surprise because Rashad Evans has long been declared the No. 1 contender. But Evans, who wore a cast on his hand when he faced off with Jones following Jones’ victory over Rampage Jackson last month, will apparently not be ready to fight in time for Jones’ next title defense.

For Jones, the matchup means he will fight four times in 2011: He beat Ryan Bader in February, Shogun Rua in March and Jackson in September. Fighting this often is rare in the UFC, especially among championship-level fighters, but Jones is apparently ready, and the UFC apparently wants to keep their young star active.

He’ll have an interesting stylistic matchup in Machida, whose striking is unlike anything Jones has ever faced before. Then again, Jones’ strength, speed and reach is unlike anything Machida has ever faced before. This should be a great fight.

Despite being healthy and ready to fight, it looks like Lyoto Machida may be out of action for the rest of the year.

In a Tweet sent out on Sunday, “The Dragon” told fans that he likely wouldn’t be fighting again until next year, but he never gave a reason why he was being sidelined for such an extended period of time.

Machida’s only bout this year took place in April at UFC 129, where he knocked out UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture with a highlight-reel crane kick.

Since the win, there have been rumored bouts pitting the former light heavyweight champion against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Phil Davis.

The UFC ultimately decided to match Rua against Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson, and Machida was paired with Davis at UFC 140.

Unfortunately for Machida, the bout with Davis was deemed a no-go due to the rising 205-pound star needing more time to recover from a serious knee injury.

Considering Machida’s stature in the light heavyweight division, it’s interesting to think that he could be kept out of action for so long without even an attempt at finding a replacement opponent.

With Strikeforce crumbling, bouts against Gegard Mousasi, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, Roger Gracie or possibly even fellow Black House student Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante all make sense for Machida.

Is it possible that Machida is overreacting, and the UFC is currently working to find him an opponent?

If this is the case, a decision should be made in the coming days. There aren’t too many upper-echelon fighters out there willing a take a fight on short notice with someone like Machida.

Machida Says He Likely Won’t Fight Again This Year

(“Look at me damn it.  I said I’m sorry. I even sent you a brownie basket.”)

Somebody should have warned Lyoto Machida that playing hardball with Dana White never ends well.

Now, either the UFC is teaching him a lesson for wanting “Anderson Silva Money” for stepping in on short notice to face Rashad Evans at UFC 133 or they want to save the Japanese-Brazilian fighter for its February 26 return to Japan. Either way, Lyoto, who only fought once in 2011 at UFC 129 in April, won’t even be making Strikeforce Challengers money the rest of the year. Lucky for him he has the Knockout of the Night bonus he got for retiring Randy Couture and knocking out his tooth.

Machida tweeted late last night that he likely won’t be fighting again until next year, but didn’t give a reason why.

You may recall that White prematurely announced last week that Machida would be taking on Phil Davis at UFC 140 in Toronto and then pulled a 180 on the news when he was informed that Davis was still recovering from knee surgery. I guess Dana’s still sore at us. Otherwise he might have considered one of our viable replacement opponents for “The Dragon” to keep him busy instead of putting him on the shelf.

See, Lyoto. We told you “The Baldfather” never forgets.
