Over the past two days, the Los Angeles and Toronto press conferences on the Mayweather vs. McGregor world tour have provided the collective combat sports world with some of the best over-the-top trash talk for one of the most unique bookings the fight game has ever seen.

Both top names have had their moments, with many pundits giving Mayweather the first leg in L.A. by a hair, while “The Notorious” stormed back at yesterday’s second stop in Toronto to pick up what many thought was a landslide victory – at least in terms of smack talk.

The back-and-forth banter is for one reason, and that’s obviously to increase hype and anticipation for a bout that could legitimately be the biggest fight of all-time in any combat sport. But there are a few, right or wrong, who believe McGregor takes his smack talk too far to the point where it borders on racism against his African-American counterpart.

During both press conferences, McGregor used what many perceive to be a racist taunt by telling Mayweather to “dance for me, boy,” an insult some believe hearkens back to slavery in the United States. “Money” apparently isn’t fazed by it, however, as he told TMZ Sports there were only two kinds of ‘boys’:

“We all know there’s only 2 types of boys — a white boy and a cowboy — and I’m neither.”

The boxing legend expanded on his view of the situation, noting that he wasn’t angered by the situation, and instead chose to let it roll off of his shoulders in order to stay focused on the massive bout:

“Racism still exists but you know, I try to take something negative and turn it into something positive. A lot of people say that Conor McGregor is racist but I’m not worried about that.

“It is what it is. He’s entitled to feel how he wants to feel. I just want to stay in my zone and stay focused.”

SHOWTIME Sports

So “Money” Mayweather isn’t letting McGregor’s supposedly racist trash talk get him down, yet this is far from the first time we’ve heard critics say “The Notorious” pushes the boundaries of prejudice and discrimination with his talk.

He infamously called Nate Diaz a “cholo gangster from the hood” at their now-legendary UFC 196 presser right after it was announced Diaz would replace former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos against McGregor, and said he wanted to turn Jose Aldo’s “favela in to a Reebok sweatshop” during the world tour for their scheduled UFC 189 blockbuster that Aldo ultimately pulled out of.

No matter the perception, McGregor is considered the best talker in MMA, and if his torrid pace continues, there’s a good chance he’ll be considered the best smack talker in boxing, too. The latter could quickly crashing down if he’s made to look foolish against Mayweather, however. In terms of this discussion, it would seem that many working parts come into play, and the gray area of whether or not people are taking this too seriously as opposed to if McGregor is actually being racist is quite the murky scene.

What do you think about his words? Are they actually racist, or are media members making too much of words used to sell a fight?

The gloves were most certainly off during the second press conference of the promotional world tour for August 26’s anticipated Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor showdown today (Wed., July 12, 2017) from Toronto.

After an initial press conference from L.A. yesterday where many felt Mayweather got the best of “The Notorious,” the Irishman came out guns absolutely blazing with several classic jabs at the boxing great, including this outlandish claim. Not to be outdone, Mayweather made a massive wager with McGregor that challenged him to put what will be by far his biggest payday on the line.

But before all of those trash talk gems came flying, the two biggest names in fighting squared off for what turned into a very heated and intense faceoff. Check out the electric showdown via MMA Fighting right here:

Floyd Mayweather Bets Conor McGregor His Whole Fight Check

The gloves were off at the second Mayweather vs. McGregor press conference from Toronto today (Wed., July 12, 2017), with “The Notorious” throwing trash talk haymakers left and right after he was supposedly shushed by SHOWTIME when his mic auspiciously wouldn’t work while Mayweather was talking at yesterday’s first world tour leg from Los Angeles.

McGregor threw everything at Mayweather today, calling him “boxing’s biggest bitch” and mocking his ability (or lack thereof) to read, amongst other choice one-liners. It was then “Money’s” turn to respond, and he took the opportunity to mock McGregor’s ability in boxing, focusing on the fact that the fans, who were obviously in support of the Irishman, couldn’t fight for him:

“One thing we do know, one thing we do know. The fuckin’ fans can’t fight for you.”

McGregor then responded with one of his all-time greats:

“Shut your fookin’ mouth.”

Mayweather then reacted to the suggestion he couldn’t read, noting that he instead does numbers, especially in terms of years on top of the boxing game – and of course his cash-driven namesake:

“We not talkin’ about being at the top one year, two year, three, four years; motherfucker, 21 years. Yeah, and they said, ‘I’m the motherfucker that can’t read? Bitch, I do numbers. I make money. You know my middle name, bitch.”

The Irishman would have none of it, however, poking fun at Mayweather’s supposed need to take the fight with him to pay off the tax bill form his 2015 bout against Manny Pacquiao:

“You owe money.”

“Money” was clearly unhappy with the suggestion that he owed any of that, so he immediately challenged McGregor to bet his whole purse against him if he believed in himself so much:

“I do? Let me see the bag. Yeah, he was right, the bag got books, and we gonna show you what the books look like. If you believe in yourself like you say you believe in yourself, bet your whole fight check, you bitch.”

“The Notorious” replied that he had no problem betting his sure-to-be monstrous payday and to send the contract for the bet:

“No fuckin’ problem. Send the contract kid, it’s done.”

Mayweather wasn’t done there, as he shifted focus to the fact that MCGregor quit in his sole UFC loss, his now-famous 2016 submission defeat to Nate Diaz, a diss that elicited a loud chorus of boos from the pro-McGregor fans:

“You know, you know. I like you. You punk, this your boss, you bitch (points at Dana White). And ya’ll got the fuckin’ nerves to believe in a fighter that like to fuckin’ quit. This is fuckin’ quitter. Turn the pressure up, I don’t quit. I don’t fold under pressure . I’m the best, and you know I’m the best. Bitch, and you know I’m the best. Don’t you ever tell me shit about a fuckin’ three-million dollar fighter.”

“Yeah, we just gettin’ heated up.”

Finally, Mayweather made light of his age, which is advancing for a professional fighter at the top of the game at 40. But “Money” said he looked much younger:

“I’m 40 but I look 20.”

McGregor would have the last word, of course, stating that Mayweather in fact looked much younger due to his choice of clothes:

“And you look 10.”

Earlier this week, ESPN released a report indicating that legendary former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather owed the IRS tax money, which is ultimately why he came out of retirement to accept a fight with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.

And subsequently, this topic was brought up at yesterday’s (July 11, 2017) press conference between the two, which took place in Los Angeles.

Mayweather started it off by pulling out a check for $100 million to show that perhaps he doesn’t have any tax issues:

“Gimme that backpack. (Pulls out check from backpack) “Let me show you mutha f*ckers what a 100 million dollar fighter looks like,” Mayweather said. “Still got 100 million and I ain’t even touched this sh*t!”

McGregor then quickly took a jab at “Money”:

“Give that to the tax man!” McGregor responded.

The back-and-forth banter between the two stars was entertaining to say the least, although it should only heat up from here. McGregor’s microphone was actually turned off yesterday, but “Mayweather” continue to pour on the verbal onslaught:

“You’re right! I’m the IRS, and I’ma tax your ass,” Mayweather said.

“We knew I was the A-side, that’s why it say Mayweather first. We knew I was the A-side, that’s why this b*tch had to come to the boxing ring,” he added.

“He look good for a seven figure fighter, he look good for a eight figure fighter, but mutha f*cker I’m a nine figure fighter. And y’all know what? This b*tch made three million dollars his last fight! Well we know that’s training camp money for me!” Mayweather concluded.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. Threatens To ‘Beat Conor McGregor’s A**’

There were a myriad of newsworthy headlines at today’s Mayweather vs. McGregor world tour kickoff presser from Los Angeles, ranging from McGregor predicting an early knockout and calling Mayweather scared of MMA to “Money” stating he would fight the ‘Notorious’ Irishman with only four-ounce gloves on.

But more drama continued to develop behind the scenes, and as predicted for a boxing mega-match of this magnitude, and one of the more interesting ones came when Mayweather’s father Floyd Sr. crashed McGregor’s media scrum immediately after the media conference.

Apparently, Mayweather Sr. had enough of McGregor’s mouth after they were jawing during the staredown ending the press conference, something McGregor addressed during his scrum:

“The old man came — and I don’t know who’s who, I got confused — but the old man came and he was saying some stuff,” McGregor said regarding his stare down with Mayweather Jr. “So whatever, I don’t know.”

This got the elder Mayweather’s attention, and he ran onto the interview’s filming to call out his son’s current foe. Check it out courtesy of MMA Fighting:

Mayweather Sr. was irate, offering a straight threat to bludgeon McGregor outside of the ring before his son had a chance to:

“Like what, son?” Mayweather Sr. shouted. “I will beat your ass, I will beat your ass.”

So after a massively awaited event, where the hype and spectacle of this so-called ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ bout was set on a course headed for an out-of-control fever pitch as the late summer day draws near, many are actually giving Mayweather the first round in the war of words between combat sports’ two biggest names. And now Mayweather’s father wants to throw down with the UFC’s front man as well.

Something tells me he’ll be answering back in force at tomorrow’s second press conference tour stop in Toronto.
