UFC welterweight king Kamaru Usman heaped praise on Michel Pereira after the flamboyant Brazilian striker returned to the win column in fantastic fashion at UFC Vegas 9 this past weekend.

Pereira put on a three-round striking clinic against the game but outgunned Zelim Imadaev before eventually picking up a late submission win. Usman, who was on analyst duties for the ESPN+ broadcast had nothing but good things to say about Pereira who he thinks is destined for big things sooner rather than later.

“I loved everything that I saw from him because he proved to everybody, our bosses, and myself included, that he can be a full complete fighter,” Usman said. “I mean, everything was spectacular – his awareness, his cage awareness, the way he was moving, the way he was setting up those traps moving side-to-side and then landing those big shots. It was a spectacular performance from him. I think this is a guy that’s looking to get paired up against someone big in the future, the near future.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Pereira seems to agree with Usman. The 27-year-old immediately called out Jorge Masvidal after picking up his first win in three fights. Pereira was previously disqualified when he fought Diego Sanchez at UFC Rio Rancho back in March. Before that, he suffered a huge upset defeat at the hands of UFC newcomer Tristan Connelly who shocked the world by picking up a decision win on just a few days’ notice in September 2019.

A matchup opposite Masvidal appears highly unlikely at this moment in time, with the Floridian currently in discussions to rematch Stockton all-rounder, Nate Diaz at UFC 246 in January – with BMF status up for grabs once more.

It truly wouldn’t be a fight featuring Michel Pereira without his usual antics and unorthodox display throughout. The flashy capoeira kicker managed to return to the winner’s enclosure, with a majorly one-sided rear-naked choke victory over Zelim Imadaev with mere seconds remaining in the final round.

For the majority of the three-round affair, the entertaining striker out-landed Imadaev with relative ease – mixing up his target with kicks up high, to the body, and utilising his usual flashy style. In what appears a miscued stoppage from referee Chris Tognoni, Imadaev seemingly attempts to hand fight – with the referee calling a halt to proceedings nevertheless.

Below, check out the highlights of Pereira’s one-sided return to winning ways.

Michel Pereira is entering the final fight of his UFC contract on Saturday night when he battles Zelim Imadaev. It is a fight many fans are circling for the Fight of the Night.

Although the Brazilian is on a two-fight losing streak, dropping a decision to Tristan Connelly, and a DQ loss to Diego Sanchez, he isn’t worried about his UFC contract. Instead, he knows he has an exciting style that the UFC will renew his contract win or lose.

“This is the last fight of my contract, but I believe Dana White and Sean Shelby will renew my contract,” Pereira said in an interview with MMA Fighting. “I’m doing well in the company, even with the losses. Something happened in every loss I had in the UFC, but I showed the type of athlete I am. I showed who I am, my fighting style, and I believe that’s what they want for the UFC. I believe they will renew my contract.”

Michel Pereira is someone who knows it only takes one of his shots to land to end the fight. So, the Brazilian tells the fans to not blink.

“That’s what my bosses Dana White and Sean Shelby want to see, and I’m an employee,” “Demolidor” said. “If that’s what they want me to do, I’ll give them that. I’ve trained hard and gave my all in the gym to be able to get there and give everyone a show.”

“To me, a fight is a fight,” he continued. “Wins and losses are the consequence. Of course that I want to win, that’s not up for debate. But I don’t think only about myself. A fight is not only about myself. I think about my fans, my bosses. I think about everyone. I’m not there just to fight. That’s the right mindset, and that’s something fighters lack today. They just go out there and put on boring fights. They don’t fight for the fans, they don’t put on a show, so it’s boring.”
