Veteran strawweight pioneer, Michelle Waterson has called time on her storied career in mixed martial arts tonight — off the back of her defeat to grappling ace, Gillian Robertson at UFC 303 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Waterson, who entered tonight’s strawweight clash with Robertson boasting the number fourteen rank in the official 115lbs division — dropped a decision loss to the above-mentioned challenger, before closing the curtain on a stunning, storied 31-fight career in combat sports.

A veteran contender and perennial challenger at the strawweight limit inside the promotion, Michelle Waterson, a former Invicta FC atomweight champion, made her Octagon debut back in 2015, racking up quickfire submission wins over both Angela Magana and then Paige VanZant — the second of which in a UFC Fight Night Sacramento headliner.

Bowing out from her career in the midst of a five-fight skid, Waterson, who boasts an 18-13 professional record — including an impressive nine separate submission victories, has landed other notable wins over the likes of Jessica Penne, Yasuko Tamada, Angela Hill, and former title challenger, Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Following her defeat, an emotional Waterson was consoled by UFC color-commentator, Joe Rogan — before calling time on her career, thanking her friends, and family for support — as well as heralding the fans who have followed her stored career in mixed martial arts.

Marina Rodriguez delivered a stunning display of violence en route to a second-round TKO against the ‘Karate Hottie’ at UFC Vegas 79.

Waterson-Gomez came out immediately looking to pressure Rodriguez and managed to put the Brazilian on her back in the opening seconds with a slick double-leg takedown. Rodriguez worked her way back up just past the 90-second mark and landed some solid knees in the clinch prompting Waterson-Gomez to back off.

With two minutes to go, Waterson-Gomez was a bloody mess after enduring a barrage of vicious knees and elbows from Rodriguez. To her credit, Waterson-Gomez never once stopped fighting back and miraculously managed to make it out of the first round.

In the second round, Waterson-Gomez continued to attempt to take things to the ground, but a reversal from Rodriguez allowed her to mount the ‘Karate Hottie’ and unleash a flurry of elbows that forced the referee to step and mercifully call for the stoppage.

Amanda Lemos earned a well-deserved victory over Michelle Waterson at UFC Long Island.

Coming off a loss to Marina Rodriguez last May, Waterson was looking to get back to the win column having dropped three out of her last four with a sole win over Angela Hill by a split decision. She clashed with Lemos at tonight’s UFC on ABC 3: Ortega v Rodriguez at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Both ladies got off to a cautious start with Lemos getting the better in stand-up. A failed takedown attempt by Waterson got her trapped in a guillotine choke to get finished in round two.
