After beating two of the UFC’s more famous names (though not necessarily the best fighters) in 2016, undefeated welterweight prospect Mickey Gall has been out of action for the entirety of this year.
That will all change at the upcoming UFC 217, however.
Word broke from Newsday (via MMA Fighting) today that Gall will face Randy Brown at the anticipated pay-per-view (PPV) event this November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
The bout will join a quickly forming card which features three title fights when Michael Bisping faces a returning Georges St-Pierre for the middleweight championship, Cody Garbrandt finally defends his bantamweight title against TJ Dillashaw, and strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk battles Rose Namajunas.
Gall has performed well in his short UFC tenure thus far, submitting Mike Jackson, Punk, and Northcutt via rear-naked choke in all three of his octagon bouts. He sits at a promising-but-still-unproven 4-0 in his professional mixed martial arts career after finding the opportunity to compete in the UFC on Dana White’s “Looking For A Fight” online series.
Brown was also found on the show and currently sits at 3-2 in the UFC. He was most recently handed a decision defeat by Belal Muhammad.
Not that it needed it, but UFC 217 has added yet another potentially exciting bout to possibly the most jam-packed lineup of 2017 – at a time when they need just that more than ever. Check out the full updated card right here:
Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Rose Namajunas Aiemann Zahabi vs. Ricardo Ramos Johny Hendricks vs. Paulo Borrachinha Aleksei Oleinik vs. Curtis Blaydes Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Ion Cutelaba Corey Anderson vs. Patrick Cummins Stephen Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal

With two submission losses in his last three UFC bouts, Sage Northcutt has apparently admitted he needs a change in camp.
Heading into his UFC 214 bout with Claudio Puelles on July 29 from Anaheim, California, the 21-year-old social media superstar has apparently relocated to Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male. TAM founder and former UFC title contender Urijah Faber revealed that ‘Super Sage’ was indeed training with his team on today’s (Mon., June 12, 2017) edition of The MMA Hour, revealing they had just finished up a light session:
“He’s out here learning the good stuff. He and I just got done doing a little private (lesson).”
‘The California Kid’ elaborated further on Northcutt’s overall involvement with the team, noting that the prospect was still spending time with a friend of Faber’s in his native Texas after moving his training around both the state and other gyms such as Montreal’s TriStar and Milwaukee’s Roufusport while being managed by his father Mark throughout the early part of his UFC career.
So while he may not officially be a full-time TAM member just yet, Faber believes that’s something Northcutt will work up to on a permanent basis before touting the young athlete’s ability to pick up new strategies:
“Right now, he works out with one of my very good buddies out of Paradigm in Texas, who I actually coached in college at UC Davis. And so, this is a week out (for him) right now. He’s got a full camp, so I’m not sure how much he’s going to be out here for his camp, but it’s probably going to be a more permanent thing for him moving forward. But as of right now, he’s kind of splitting time, and man, what a fast learner and what a positive guy. He’s fun to be around.”
Asked if Northcutt would truly move to Team Alpha Male for good, Faber responded that he thought so, but the final answer would have to come out of ‘Super Sage’s’ mouth:
“I believe so,” Faber said. “You’d have to double check with him, but I think so.”
So nothing is official in terms of Northcutt staying at any one camp – something he’s not known for doing, yet he did recently post a photo of a training session at TAM that included longtime UFC fan favorite Clay Guida and quickly-rising women’s strawweight Cynthia Calvillo, as seen below.
Could this be the end of Northcutt’s roaming ways as he attempts to rebound from a disappointing defeat to fellow prospect Mickey Gall?

Dan Hardy has no interest in stepping into the Octagon against Mickey Gall.
Hardy has been out-of-action for five years due to a heart abnormality, but he has recently received doctors’ clearance to return to his fighting ways. Since departing from the Octagon, however, Hardy has newfound love for serving as an mixed martial arts (MMA) analyst and has already solidified himself as one of the best in the game.
The 35-year-old former welterweight title challenger recently participated in a Q&A at UFC Fight Night 109 this past weekend, where Hardy revealed that he is no longer interested in fighting to move up in the rankings or win the title anymore, but simply would like to return for the love of the sport (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“I’m not interested in the belt or the rankings anymore. If I was stepping back in, it would be purely for the love of martial arts,” Hardy said. “I’m not interested in trying to knock out any contenders or anything like that. As fun as it would be to get the gold for the one time, I’m past the point of investing my life into the sport.”
Hardy also claimed that he has no interest in fighting young up-and-coming fighters and also doubled down on his claims that he has no interest in fighting Mickey Gall, who called him out after his submission win over Sage Northcutt back in December.
“The Outlaw” also took a few jabs at Gall’s accomplishments inside the Octagon, making light of the men he’s defeated:
“I like his enthusiasm,” Hardy said. “He’s a young kid. He’s had four fights – he’s fought one MMA fighter, he’s fought an actor, he’s fought a journalist, and he’s fought a beginner. … If I’m stepping back in, I don’t get any excitement out of beating up a kid. I just don’t.”
Mickey Gall says the most nervous he’s been for a fight was the one against CM Punk. Going into their UFC 203 bout, analysts and fans didn’t give Punk much of a chance against Gall due to the lack of experience. It was obvious that Punk was outmatched as he was easily taken down and […]

After two straight submission wins over Sage Northcutt and CM Punk, rising UFC welterweight Mickey Gall looks to have a bright future ahead of him as one of MMA’s best potential self-promoters.
But all of that almost didn’t happen, as Gall revealed his bout with the debuting Punk (real name Phillip Brooks) almost didn’t happen at last September’s UFC 203 from Cleveland, Ohio, due to this absolutely gruesome cut he suffered from an accidental headbutt in training. It was so bad that it required 21 stitches and his doctor warned him not to fight for six months, orders he clearly didn’t follow. Check it out from his official Instagram account:
Yikes. We see large cuts in MMA all the time, but that’s one of those where it looks like you can almost see into the fighter’s brain.
As he detailed, Gall not only fought three weeks after the cut was stitched up, but he also made a quick turnaround to fight twice in only two thirds of his doctor’s recommended return time when he called out fellow touted prospect Sage Northcutt for a December bout at UFC on FOX 22.
He won the fight by submitting the highly hyped but under-delivering ‘Super’ Sage, and as he said, two superstars were whooped while one was (perhaps) born.
