‘D-Rod’ Rodriguez recorded the most high-profile victory of his professional career by utilizing his superior boxing skills to out-strike Perry over three rounds.
Despite securing two successful takedowns ‘Platinum’ was unable to have any real impact on the fight. He ultimately dropped to a lopsided decision defeat.
Rodriguez bounced back from his lone UFC defeat, which came against Nicholas Dalby earlier this year. He did so in emphatic fashion. Rodriguez currently boasts a 4-1 record under the promotion’s banner.
Perry is riding a two-fight losing streak. The fan favourite has lost four of his last five UFC fights.
In the aftermath of UFC Vegas 23 he took to social media to reflect on his latest defeat.
“I use to be great,” Perry wrote. “Idk what happened. I have a fight left on my contract. I’ll train hard, I’ll give it my all for my family. Whatever I have to do to give them a better life. I’ll bleed every day for them if I have to.”
Who do you think Mike Perry should fight next after his loss to Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 23?
Daniel ‘D-Rod’ Rodriguez has recorded the most high-profile victory of his professional career, exacting a striking clinic to take home a dominant, one-sided unanimous decision win over ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry to open the UFC Vegas 23 main card. Utilising some of the sharpest boxing on display in recent events, the Los Angeles native, who has […]
Utilising some of the sharpest boxing on display in recent events, the Los Angeles native, who has spent some considerable time training alongside future UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at the BMF Ranch — dominated Perry on the feet from start to finish.
Busting up the polarizing Flint, Michigan native in the opening round, Rodriguez ultimately left Perry covered in claret by the end of the third round — likely breaking the latter’s nose in the opening frame to boot.
Despite suffering two successful takedowns from Perry from three attempts, it was majorly plain sailing for Rodriguez — who now improves to 4-1 under the promotion’s banner.
Below, catch the highlights from Rodriguez’s one-sided unanimous judging triumph over Perry.
Mike Perry has got one eye on Darren Till ahead of his fight against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 23. Mike Perry has got one eye on Darren Till ahead of his fight against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 23.
The popular welterweight fighter has had a long-running feud with Till who was supposed to headline alongside Marvin Vettori this weekend.
Unfortunately for the Englishman and fight fans he was forced off the card last week as he broke his collarbone in training.
Kevin Holland has stepped up on late notice to replace ‘The Gorilla’
Perry was disappointed that his rival did not make it to fight week.
“I was looking forward to maybe slapping him in the face and making headlines this week,” Perry told media ahead of UFC Vegas 23. “But it’s interesting because we all come here with a mission, and you know, it’s whose name is on the other side of that paper, so that’s the most important thing. So it’s better that I don’t have to deal with any type of drama.”
‘Platinum’ is not a fan of cutting weight and is hoping his next fight will be at middleweight against Till.
“I know I’m talking trash, and on Twitter, I be breaking down,” Perry said. “You be seeing me. I’m like a girl on my period on Twitter when I’m on weight cut ’cause it’s just awful. It makes me want to go up a weight class, so when I knock this fool out on Saturday and Darren Till’s collarbone heals, let’s make that fight happen at 185. I eat a chicken sandwich with one hand and hit him in the face with the other.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
Perry has lost four of his last six fights and currently sits outside the welterweight rankings. Till is coming off a loss to former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. Despite that, he appeared to be in line for a shot at Israel Adesanya had he beaten Vettori this weekend.
Mike Perry has been training with YouTube celebrity Jake Paul ahead of his boxing bout with former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren on April 17. Dana White is so confident Askren would beat Paul he revealed he is hoping to bet $1 million on the fight. “Let’s be honest: Jake Paul is not […]
Mike Perry has been training with YouTube celebrity Jake Paul ahead of his boxing bout with former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren on April 17.
“Let’s be honest: Jake Paul is not a f*cking boxer – this guy’s a f*cking YouTube kid,” White said on the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast. “Let me tell you about this kid: So the kid he’s going to fight is a wrestler, a real good wrestler, a decorated wrestler, but he’s actually fought real guys. He’s been a world champion in other organizations.”
“He talks a lot of sh*t,” White said of Paul. “We’re going to find out. I hope you can bet on this thing because I’ll f*cking bet a million dollars that he loses this f*cking fight. A million dollars that he loses this fight.”
Paul and Snoop Dogg have since tried to up the stakes with the UFC president.
Both men want to bet $2 million on the fight with White.
Perry took to social media yesterday to warn his boss against putting to much money down on Askren.
‘Platinum’ is one of many MMA fighters who have been sparring Paul ahead of his fight with ‘Funky’.
Paul transitioned to boxing in 2020 and has looked good against extremely low-level opposition.
The 24-year-old most notably knocked out former NBA player, Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.
Askren retired from MMA in 2020 due to a lingering hip injury.
Before walking away from the sport ‘Funky’ lost back-to-back fights against Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal.
He’ll be making his boxing debut on April 17.
Do you think Mike Perry is right? Is Ben Askren in trouble when he fights Jake Paul?
