Paddy Pimblett

After just two appearances inside the Octagon, Paddy Pimblett is already a bonafide combat sports superstar.

Between his high-octane fighting style, gift for gab and undeniable charm, fans around the world are following ‘The Baddy’ in droves. Recently, the Liverpudlian parlayed that popularity into a massive seven-figure deal to be a brand ambassador and content creator for Barstool Sports.

President of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, recently appeared on an episode of ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson’s podcast ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’ to discuss Paddy Pimblett’s skills in and out of the Octagon. Portnoy discussed seeing traits in Pimblett that remind him of global MMA icon Conor McGregor.

“Paddy the Baddy to me has like the Conor McGregor vibes in the sense of he’s electric on the mic, there’s something about him that’s very different,” Portnoy said. “Conor McGregor, he has that too, and he could fight in there too.”

Like Conor McGregor, Paddy Pimblett Has Started His UFC Career on a Hot Streak

Making his UFC debut in 2013, McGregor scored seven straight victories, six by knockout on his way to becoming the promotion’s first two-division champion. His UFC 229 showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov is still the hottest selling pay-per-view in company history with 2.2 million buys.

Recognizing Pimblett’s drawing power, Portnoy believes that the UFC will do its best to protect ‘The Baddy’, similar to what the promotion has done with fellow fan-favorite Sean O’Malley.

“We’ll find out, but I think he can definitely fight. How good? We’ll find out but Dana [White] knows and Dana sees what I see in him which is this guy is a meal ticket,” Portnoy said. “They’re not going to put him in versus King Kong anytime soon… and he sold out the London show the other day.”

Responding to the news that Paddy Pimblett had been largely responsible for selling out the next UFC London card on July 23rd, Tyson said, “When guys do that, let them fight. Don’t get him beat please.”

As the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson went 37-0 and more than five years as a professional before suffering his first career loss. Tyson ended his professional career with a record of 50-6 and is still considered one of the most iconic names in all of combat sports.

Bob Sapp, Mike Tyson

Bob Sapp has gone in on Mike Tyson for not fighting him.

MMA veteran Bob Sapp made his professional debut in 2002 under Pride before moving on to K-1 where he would enjoy a successful brief run. His career spanned 16 years with his final outings coming in 2018.

Although he won his retirement fight against Abdelrahman Shalan in September 2018, ‘The Beast’ dropped 17 of his previous 18 outings with 14 of those losses coming in a row including 15 overall defeats by KO or TKO finishes.

Sapp recently made headlines for a video he uploaded online where he took aim at Mike Tyson. The 48-year-old said that he would rip out the boxing Hall of Famer’s heart in hopes of setting up an exhibition bout.

Bob Sapp says he brought Tyson out of retirement

In an interview with MMAnytt.se, Bob Sapp detailed the origins of his beef with Tyson and talked about the potential showdown claiming he brought Tyson out of retirement.

“We first got involved in 2003 in Las Vegas,” Bob Sapp said. “There was some pushing and shoving when I met him at the Bellagio. I am responsible for bringing him out of retirement. It’s impossible for anyone to be a Mike Tyson fan without them being a Bob Sapp fan, because I’m the guy that brought him out of retirement! Nobody would be talking about him at all if it wasn’t for me!”

‘Iron’ Mike marked his return to boxing in an exhibition bout with the former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr in November 2020. Sapp alleged that he was the initial opponent who was supposed to fight Tyson and that Jones was found as a replacement to cut him out of the lucrative deal.

Sapp was supposed to be Tyson’s original opponent when he made his anticipated return. Tyson finally ended up fighting former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, but according to Sapp, this bout was done to leave him out of the multimillion dollar deal. Sapp partly blames Tyson’s manager and brother-in-law Azheem Spicer but ultimately points a finger at Tyson for being too scared to take the figh

‘The Beast’ claims Mike Tyson is scared of him

Sapp fired shots at Azheem Spicer, Tyson’s manager, and brother-in-law, for giving him the stick but also claimed that Tyson was frightened at the idea of fighting him.

“They decided to draw up some scheme in which they decided to circumvent me because [Tyson] is very scared to fight me,” Sapp said. “I got him from 10 million to 20 million and then the price raised to 50 million, and we ended up selling at 30 million dollars with the PPV that would take it up to 50 million. However, it never worked out because Azheem wanted millions of dollars to go straight to his pocket, and then with Tyson being so scared and all, these price increases came after he saw a picture of what I looked like.

“The guy is truly truly truly scared. We understand that he is scared because of how I look and how big I am. That’s kind of fucked up, but I understand that because all of these other guys are also scared.”

Sapp wants the bout to be in Thailand

‘The Beast’ lives up to his moniker maintaining an impressive physique, especially for his age, and receives plenty of attention for it. Sapp talked further about matching up against the other well-known behemoths in the entertainment industry for a similar showcase.

“Let’s talk about all the pros that have called me out, ones that are scared: Mike Tyson, Thor from Game of Thrones, Shaquille O’Neal, and Evander Holyfield. But we couldn’t understand what [Holyfield] was saying because he is punch drunk and is mumbling all the time. We don’t know if he accepted the offer or denied it because we couldn’t understand what he was saying! It was too dangerous to bring him into the ring because he is too punch drunk!”

Despite the other offers that may be on the table, Sapp is only looking to secure an outing with Tyson. He hinted at a plan to host the potential event in Thailand together with his close friend Samer Suojhayer, CEO of Yuth Sport Gear.

“We have gotten so many offers it is ridiculous. We are discussing how big this is gonna get! Bob Sapp vs Mike Tyson here in Thailand – Let’s go!”

Mike Tyson’s days as a competitive boxer are long behind him, and it appears he’s also moved on from his brief foray into the niche sport of fighting on airplanes.

The 55-year-old former heavyweight boxing champion made headlines in April after video footage emerged of him apparently throwing punches at a fellow passenger during a commercial flight. “Iron Mike” ended up not facing any charges and has since spoken about the incident and said that it “never should have happened.”

TMZ Sports caught up with Tyson just as he was exiting a car to presumably go and board a commercial airplane. The boxing great was asked if he had any concerns about who would be sitting behind him on this particular journey.

“No way,” he replied. “Tyson 2.0, you know about that, right? You know about Tyson 2.0? That’s what I’m all about now, man. I’m all about Tyson 2.0”

While the interviewer seemed to think the former heavyweight champion was referring to a new version of himself, Tyson 2.0 is also the name of the 55-year-old’s brand of cannabis products.

The interviewer followed up by citing Tyson’s comments that he’d been “tired, pissed off and high” during his previous airplane altercation. “Iron Mike” took the chance to once again promote his brand and also put the interviewer on the back foot.

“Hey, you just take too much man. But Tyson 2.0 is the way to go man. Don’t forget to get that. Are you gonna get Tyson 2.0?”

After repeating the name twice at Tyson’s request and assuring him that he’d be getting Tyson 2.0, the interviewer asked one final question about what advice “Iron Mike” would give to celebrities that have to deal with overzealous fans.

“Love them,” he replied with a hugging motion before entering the airport.

What’s your reaction to Mike Tyson’s comments about “Tyson 2.0”? Do you think he was just using the chance to promote his brand, or was he also talking about changes he’s made in his life?

Mike Tyson Open To Boxing Match Against Jake Paul; States It Has To “Happen This Year”

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has revealed he is not against a boxing match with Jake Paul, but has noted that it must happen before the year is out.

In 2020, Tyson made a surprise return to boxing after years away from the sport. He took on fellow icon of the sport, Roy Jones Jr, in an exhibition bout. In the same year, Jake Paul made the switch to pro boxing. He has since gone 5-0, although is notably yet to pick up a win over an experienced boxer, having primarily faced athletes from outside ‘the sweet science.’

It could be that Mike Tyson will be the first legitimate boxer Jake Paul faces, as the former champion recently spoke with Jimmy Kimmel about a potential matchup against ‘The Problem Child.’

“That could be very interesting,” stated Tyson when asked about facing Paul. “I never really took it serious, but yeah it could be really interesting.”

“Everything is possible, yeah,” he said. “But it gotta happen this year. It gotta happen this year.”

Mike Tyson Acknowledges The Skills Of Jake Paul

Despite Jake Paul’s lack of high level opposition so far in his boxing career, Mike Tyson still respects the skills that ‘The Problem Child’ has shown so far. He stated that:

“He’s skilled enough, yes. I’m gonna give it to him. He’s skilled enough because he’s winning. Even if he’s fighting guys that you guys don’t believe is a good enough fighter, they should be able to beat him, but they can’t. He’s beating people that he shouldn’t really be beating. We got to give him that credit.”

“And he’s doing so much good for boxing. Listen, this guy got 70 million people following him every time he fights. Champions of the world don’t have that many people following them. So what he’s doing for boxing is just sensational. No one should be hating on that, he’s helping everyone get money. Why are people mad at him?” (H/T Bloody Elbow).
