UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has become the latest prominent figure in combat sports to speak out in defense of Mike Tyson’s decision to punch a fellow plane passenger.

Late last week, footage emerged of Tyson, widely regarded as one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time, getting into a physical altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue aircraft prior to takeoff.

After seemingly being harassed and provoked by the individual, who was reported to have been intoxicated by some witnesses, “Iron Mike” can be seen turning around and repeatedly punching him, leaving the man with visible cuts on one side of his face.

While some have criticized Tyson for resorting to violence rather than calling on attendants to deal with the troublemaker, many, including UFC President Dana White, have praised the boxing great for delivering the individual his comeuppance.

One man who firmly falls on the latter side of the argument is Rogan.

Rogan Compares Tyson Provocation To “Headbutting A Beehive”

During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the longtime UFC analyst and podcast host broke it down in simple terms: a “douchebag” got what was coming to him after agitating a beast.

“That’s real simple, that dude was a douchebag and he was annoying one of the baddest motherf*ckers that’s ever walked the face of the earth [laughs],” said Rogan. “That’s not even kicking a beehive. It’s like headbutting a beehive.”

Rogan went on to echo a sentiment many have shared since footage of the incident emerged, which is that people are becoming far too confident in agitating and interacting with famous people, believing their statuses prevent them from retaliating.

In this particular exchange, the individual learned the hard way that that is most certainly not the case, especially when a combat sports veteran is the subject of the provocation.

“The guy was super annoying, man. People get crazy. They think that just because he’s Mike Tyson, he’s famous he can’t just punch you [laughs]. You’re annoying him, he’s just gonna hit you like a normal person would,” suggested Rogan. (h/t BJPenn.com)

While it’s unclear if the individual, named Melvin Townsend lll, will be taking legal action, his representatives released a statement, in which they denied that their client threw a bottle at Tyson and claimed that the physical strikes were excessive and unnecessary.

Joe Rogan Mike Tyson Plane Assault

After viral news of Mike Tyson assaulting someone on a plane surfaced, the world was shocked and caught totally unaware. Now, Joe Rogan has weighed in on the incident. Giving his opinion on the assault and how Tyson was provoked into it.

“That’s real simple, that dude was a douchebag,” Rogan said on his podcast. “He was annoying one of the baddest motherf*ckers that’s ever walked the face of the earth… that’s not even (like) kicking a beehive, that’s like headbutting a beehive,” he would conclude.

As far as the assault situation goes, video and witness evidence all seem to show that Mike Tyson was indeed provoked into the attack. He was being harassed and ridiculed by the seemingly-drunken fan, and almost lured into the ordeal.

In fact, most people’s opinion on the assault was that they didn’t “blame” Tyson for what he did. Many say they would’ve done the same thing in that situation, basically insinuating the man who harassed the boxing legend “deserved” what he got.

Joe Rogan Gives Details on the Man Mike Tyson Assaulted

Joe Rogan and his guest for the show would continue discussing the situation, talking about how foolish the guy was to provoke Mike Tyson in such a manner.

“That guy was probably on a bunch of sh*t. The guy who Mike Tyson punched, according to the New York Post, has a lengthy criminal history…” Rogan said. “If you find yourself (in a situation) where Mike Tyson is reaching over the back of an airline seat to punch you in the face, I think you’ve probably earned it.”

“The guy was super annoying… People get crazy, they think that just because he’s Mike Tyson, he’s famous, he can’t just punch you… he’s just gonna hit you like a normal person would.”

Prior to the footage of Tyson striking the individual over the back of his chair, the male is seen speaking to Tyson would is sitting quietly – and waving his arms in quite animated fashion.

Mike Tyson is alleged to have been struck by a water bottle before the altercation

With authorities currently investigating the incident, a spokesperson for former world champion, Tyson released an official statement, detailing how Tyson had been “harassed” by the passenger, who had also allegedly thrown a bottle of water at Tyson.

Dana White has handed out some free advice on how to survive a chance run-in with “Iron” Mike Tyson on an airplane.

Mike Tyson earned his reputation as “The Baddest Man On The Planet” with one vicious KO after another during his rise to fame and championship glory as one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time.

Not too long ago, Tyson showed that he still packs a wallop when he competed against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition boxing match in November 2020.

None of this information prevented a man from reportedly harassing Tyson on an airplane and then allegedly getting greeted with Tyson’s fists in retaliation.

Tyson’s camp has issued a statement about the incident in which the passenger in question is said to have been intoxicated and even threw a water bottle at Tyson while Tyson was in his seat.

According to reports, the passenger was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mike Tyson filmed attacking man on flight to Miami

According to Tyson’s friend and UFC President Dana White, similar incidents can be avoided in the future if “dummies” follow his survival protocol when bumping into Tyson on an aircraft.

After news broke of Tyson’s airline incident, White tweeted out a dated video of him knowing his role and giving his seat up to Tyson to avoid any problems. You can peep the video below.

“Hey dummies, for future reference, this is how you stay alive when bumping into @MikeTyson on an airplane,” White posted.

After White gave up his seat, a much more relaxed Tyson than the one found on Thursday’s video could be heard saying, “This is nice,” as he reclines with the aid of a travel pillow.

The camera then pans to a shrugging and smiling Dana White, with a face that reads, ‘What do you expect me to do? I’m no dummy!’

Many fans and fighters have spoken out in defense of Tyson since the story of Thursday’s airline incident broke. And clearly, one significant name who also stands by Tyson is the man who knows not to ever stand in his way, the UFC bossman himself, Dana White.

Mike Tyson will not be facing charges for his role in an airplane confrontation captured on video last month.

Footage emerged appearing to show the former heavyweight boxing champion of the world throwing punches at a fellow airline passenger.

Now, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office has announced that the former boxing heavyweight champion will not be facing charges for the incident due to “the circumstances surrounding the confrontation…”

“These include the conduct of the victim leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson that no charges be filed in this case,” District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe said in an official statement.

In a statement to ESPN, it was claimed Tyson was harassed by the passenger while onboard the plane and that the passenger even threw a water bottle at him. Tyson’s spokesperson released the following statement on the matter.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an incident on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a water bottle at him while he was in his seat,” read the statement.

According to a source close to TMZ, the passenger involved was “extremely intoxicated.” The video that went viral online showed the passenger involved with visible cuts to his face.

This was after the passenger appeared to be hassling ‘Iron Mike’ trying to grab the attention of the boxing legend. Based on the available footage, Tyson soon lost his cool and the irate 55-year-old is accused of then punching the passenger. A witness even claims Tyson took selfies with the man involved before the situation unfolded.

Following the altercation, two passengers were detained while one passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries according to the police department. San Francisco police reported to TMZ that the person injured ‘provided minimal details of the incident and refused to cooperate further with the police investigation’.

The flight itself was departing from San Francisco for Florida, with Tyson apparently exiting the flight shortly after the incident took place.

Many have come out in defense of Tyson online after having seen the segments of the footage involving the passenger pestering the man once known as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet”.
