Diego Sanchez is in the news once again, after slamming UFC welterweight Donald Cerrone after his knockout loss to Alex Morono at UFC Vegas 26.

The two UFC legends have gone back-and-forth in the media for the past few weeks, stemming from Sanchez being removed from their previously scheduled bout and being released from the UFC altogether. Sanchez took to his Instagram story to take a shot at Cerrone after “Cowboy” criticized him and his coach Joshua Fabia over the past week.

“Maybe @cowboycerrone training methods should be questioned??” Sanchez said on his Instagram story. “Racing, mountain biking, wakeboarding, snow mobiling, hunting, shooting, Jerky selling, traveling like a rockstar and chewing with Monster drink….hope Donald the bigot gets taken to the hospital to protect his head he said needed healing.”

After Sanchez was removed from the UFC Vegas 26 card, Cerrone was tasked with short-notice replacement Morono, who ended up knocking him out just minutes into their fight. The 38-year-old Cerrone showed his age in the fight, struggling to keep up with Morono’s torrid pace and aggressive standup.

Cerrone came into the fight winless over his last five bouts, including a no-contest against Niko Price following a review of the majority draw decision. Cerrone had been through a murder’s row of opponents including Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Tony Ferguson during his losing streak.

Cerrone didn’t rule out the possibility of retiring following the loss to Morono, while Sanchez is looking for another organization to sign him following his UFC release. Bellator has already expressed disinterest in signing Sanchez, while other promotions such as BKFC and ONE Championship haven’t ruled out publically bringing Sanchez aboard.

It’s unclear what’s next for Cerrone, or even Sanchez for that matter. But one thing’s for sure; the bad blood between the two veterans isn’t going away any time soon.

What do you think about the recent beef between Diego Sanchez and Donald Cerrone?

The recent controversial heavyweight main event at PFL 3 between Fabricio Werdum and Renan Ferreira has been overturned from a Ferreira TKO win to a no-contest, following an extensive review by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board.

The decision comes following an uproar from both sides regarding the bout. In his post-fight interview, Werdum alluded to Ferreira tapping to a submission, but the referee missed the alleged tap and Ferreira went on to win by TKO. The sequence was caught on video and made the rounds both on the broadcast and on Twitter.

After it became an increasingly more popular opinion that Werdum should’ve been given the submission win, Ferreira fired back at the former UFC heavyweight champion for contesting the result of the fight.

“I am very sad with this version that he is telling,” Ferreira said in an interview with Combate.”It is already his attitude to speak of character, of not being a man, of this or that, it is his posture. I have the full conception of what I did. My conscience is clear, I have my head up and let’s go to the next one.”

Both fighters came into the PFL 3 main event making their league debuts. Werdum came into his PFL debut losing two of his last three fights in the UFC; including a split decision loss to Aleksei Oleinik. Ferreira came to PFL following an up-and-down tenure with LFA.

Following the overturned result, it remains unclear as to what is next for both fighters. The league could have them rematch as soon as possible to get a more clear result and point allocation, or they could move forward with the heavyweight regular season and give both fighters new opponents.

It was an unfortunate end to an otherwise eventful night at PFL 3, in the league’s third event since resuming competition following the cancellation of the 2020 season.

What do you think about the PFL 3 fight between Fabricio Werdum and Renan Ferreira being overturned to a no contest? Do you agree with the ruling?

Earmarking a summer Octagon return following a pair of ACL tears, former interim UFC lightweight championship challenger, Kevin Lee has sights set on a pairing against polarizing welterweight striker, Mike Perry at UFC 264 on July 10.

The Detriot all-rounder headlined UFC Fight Night Brasilia last March in the promotion’s last international trip besides Abu Dhabi, UAE — suffering an eventual third round guillotine loss to upcoming UFC 262 lightweight title challenger, Charles Oliveira.

The defeat came as Lee’s third in his four most recent Octagon outings, and his second camp under the tutelage of Firas Zahabi at Tristar MMA in Canada. Lee also tipped the lightweight scales opposite Oliveira, coming in at 158.5lbs for the lightweight headliner.

Suffering an ACL tear last year, Lee required surgery and unfortunately, during the rehabilitation process, tore his other ACL — resulting in a prolonged stint on the sidelines.

Targeting a summer return, Lee initially floated the idea of a rematch against former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson — who meets Beneil Dariush this weekend at UFC 262, however, he appears to have switched his attention to Perry, as a well as a probable move to the welterweight division.

@PlatinumPerry (Mike Perry) we fighting July 10 or what @seanshelby @danawhite.” Lee tweeted to the Flint native.

For Perry, the outspoken puncher is in the midst of a similar career slide in the Octagon, at least — suffering defeats in four of his five most recent appearances.
Most recently featuring at UFC on ABC 2 in March, Perry suffered a rather one-sided unanimous decision loss to Daniel Rodriguez in a welterweight showcase

Lee, who has featured briefly at welterweight in the past, met with former lightweight titleholder, Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night Rochester in May of 2019, suffering an eventual third round arm-triangle defeat to the Brazilian mainstay.

In Lee’s most recent professional win, he met with UFC Vegas 26 feature, Gregor Gillespie at UFC 244 in November of 2019 — stopping the avid fishing enthusiast with a highlight-reel first round high-kick — handing Gillespie his first professional loss in mixed martial arts.

Fans got a bit of bad news about a highly-anticipated middleweight bout between Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan scheduled for UFC 262 this Saturday.

The fight has been pushed back one week for an undisclosed reason after Shahbazyan alluded to the news on his Twitter page on Monday.

“I guess we wait another week… May 22 here we come! Back to Vegas!” Shahbazyan tweeted.

The bout will be reportedly moved to UFC Vegas 27 on May 22nd, which includes the bantamweight main event between Cody Garbrandt and Rob Font. It’s unclear just yet where exactly the new middleweight bout addition will be slated on the card, but it’s sure to boost the interest of fans for yet another stacked UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.

Both Hermansson and Shahbazyan come into the fight with plenty to prove. Hermansson is coming off a tough short-notice loss to Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 16, while Shahbazyan hasn’t competed since falling to Derek Brunson in the main event at UFC Vegas 5.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Hermansson spoke about the matchup with Shahbazyan and how excited he was to prove a point in the UFC’s stacked middleweight division.

“He’s a good opponent and a great standup fighter,” Hermansson said. “He’s a good challenge, but on the other hand I believe my style is a good matchup against him. I feel ready to fight.”

For the 23-year-old Shahbazyan, he’ll enter the delayed fight as one of the long-regarded top middleweight prospects in the UFC. He had been on a four-fight winning streak to start his UFC career before the loss to Brunson.

While the news is surely upsetting for both sides of the bout, the anticipation for a very important middleweight fight between Hermansson and Shahbazyan will go unchanged.

How do you feel about Jack Hermansson vs. Edmen Shahbazyan getting pushed back a week after UFC 262? What are your predictions for the fight?

On short notice, Alex Morono has scored the most high-profile victory of his UFC stint so far, finishing former lightweight title challenger, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone with a first round barrage before the klaxon.

Meeting the veteran Albuquerque-based striker on short notice as he replaced the released, Diego Sanchez — Morono started in a timely fashion, sprinting across the Octagon, almost reminiscent of former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor‘s early approach against Cerrone.

Tying up in the clinch for the opening minute, Morono eventually broke away and began winging shots in the pocket against Cerrone who attempted to find his mark with a left body kick, which he found on numerous occasions.

Slipping and firing off a swift and perfectly-placed counter overhand right, Morono forced a wobble out of Cerrone, who began to circle away. Forcing the Denver-native to circle back to the fence, Morono, under the tutelage of Sayif Saud at Fortis MMA — reached with a right hand and left hook, eventually closing down Cerrone with a barrage, finishing the future Hall of Famer before the first round concluded.

Below, catch the highlights from Morono’s first round stoppage win over Cerrone.
