The MMA News Humor: Rashad Vs. Shogun Rua Winner Picked By Al Pacino.

It’s short and sweet, and surprisingly it took me a few times to play it before I figured out what was funny about the video. Well done diegofan78, well done.

Tim Sylvia Stops Paul Buentello; Jens Pulver Takes Another Loss

If you checked out the official “War on the Mainland” website as you possibly hummed and hawed about ordering last night’s PPV, you might have thought to yourself ‘ah–they probably just skimmed on the site a little bit to throw more dough on the PPV’. If you checked out the official “War on the Mainland” website as you possibly hummed and hawed about ordering last night’s PPV, you might have thought to yourself ‘ah–they probably just skimmed on the site a little bit to throw more dough on the PPV’. Well, if you took in last night’s broadcast, it didn’t take long to have that notion completely refuted did it? (Unless you don’t care for graphics and production values that are post 1993—then you were probably stoked)

Wondering if you had been transported back a decade plus aside, War on the Mainland did feature some pretty sweet bouts, including the Matt Horwich / Thales Leites fight which was great (Horwich won the middleweight title by 4th round submission) and Tony Lopez KOíng Jason Lambert with a knee to take the light-heavyweight belt.

In the main event tilt between Tim Sylvia and Paul Buentello (which only added to the night’s ‘nostalgic’ feel of course), the former UFC heavyweight champ added another belt to his trophy case, by dropping Buentello in the second round. Sylvia’s first title defence? None other than Mr. Pedro Rizzo…okay,  granted, there’s a bit of a ‘classic’s theme going here but we’ll still check it out.

And apparently having BJ Penn loathe him all these years wasn’t the reason behind Jens Pulver’s ongoing woes. As we passed along Friday, Penn apologized to Pulver last week for all the naughty things he’s said about the former champ, but the veteran still couldn’t end his losing streak. After getting dropped by Diego Garijo, Pulver got caught with a follow up guillotine choke—dude’s lost 6 straight.

Jon Fitch must not have very good friends.

Because if he did, they wouldn’t let him get married.

Maybe none of them are married themselves, so they don’t know better. Regardless, no excuse.

In our latest MMA Fix video, we join Fitch at Tabu Ultra Lounge inside the MGM for his bachelor party. From the sounds of it, plans were to get drunk and blow lots of money of gambling and strippers…which makes sense, since those are two things that Fitch won’t be able to do anymore once he gets hitched.

With today’s announcement that the Ontario government will legalize mixed martial arts events in 2011, the Maximum Fighting Championship – Canada’s undisputed leader in MMA – is excited and cautiously optimistic about the prospects of holding events in the province.

The MFC has long been a front-runner in proposing MMA events in Ontario, and was the first legally sanctioned organization in Canada outside of Quebec dating back to the company’s inception in 2000. Having already built up a number of ties to various venues in Ontario, the Maximum Fighting Championship is eagerly anticipating formerly announcing its first of many shows in the province.

“The MFC will be in Ontario, there is no doubt about that,” stated MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich, who grew up in the Windsor area of southern Ontario.

“For well over a year we have been in contact with numerous venues in Ontario about hosting an MFC event and all have been very eager to work with us as the most-reputable and star-studded show in the nation.”

Negotiations with the MFC’s preferred venues have already resumed with the recent announcement from the Ontario government.

“I’m excited, our whole organization is excited, and we have heard from hundreds of MFC fans in Ontario already in the first few hours of this becoming a reality,” noted Pavelich. “But we have to be cautious about this. There has to be smart business decisions made.

“It would be foolish to think that any mixed martial arts organization could march into Ontario and just sit back and watch the money roll in. It is going to take a sound business approach, logical planning, and hard work. Mixed martial arts is our business, not a hobby. We are not going to just take the first available date and run into it blindly.

“That being said, we have had fantastic talks already with the venues we like and the reception we’ve received has been incredible. I expect we will have a full schedule of Ontario events in 2011. It is important to note that the MFC will not just pop into Ontario and run. The MFC will be a regular fixture in Ontario, and our plan is to have a full, year-long schedule of shows in several locations within the province.”

Sean Sherk Talks Dunham And BJ Penn Vs. Frankie Edgar.

There was a time when former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk looked all but undefeatable, but many have to wonder if Sherk is still relevant at 155. Sherk last entered the Octagon against current champion Edgar at UFC 98 where he lost via unanimous decision and many don’t consider him a threat for the title any time soon. Still a win over Evan Dunham at UFC 119 could put him much closer to a shot at the title, however a loss would certainly make him not much more than a gatekeeper for up and comers. UFC 119 is set to take place on September 25, 2010 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana and will feature Frank Mir Vs. Big Nog II.

Recently crowned number one contender to the 135 womens crown, Meisha Tate is looking forward to a rematch against current Strikeforce Womens Champion Sarah Kaufmann. Tate won both her matches via decision, using her superior wrestling and ground control to gain victories over Maiju Kujala and Hitomi Akano and now have a future chance at the title. The tournament format seemed to work out well, with neither woman seeming the worse for wear after their initial matches. Expect more of the format from Strikeforce as well as other rival promotions.
