Max Holloway I am a better fighter than Alexander Volkanovski UFC Kansas City

Despite suffering three consecutive losses to undisputed featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski since 2020, former division kingpin, Max Holloway insists that he is still the better fighter when it comes to the UFC duo.

Holloway, the current #2 ranked featherweight contender, is slated to return to the Octagon this weekend atop a UFC Fight Night Kansas City card – taking on the surging Ipswitch native, Arnold Allen over the course of five rounds in a potential title-eliminator.

Sidelined from active competition since co-headlined UFC 276 back in July of last year during International Fight Week against the above-mentioned Volkanovski, suffering a unanimous decision loss in the pair’s trilogy clash.

Prior to that one-sided judging defeat, the Hawaiian had turned in a close rematch loss to the New South Wales native on ‘Fight Island’ in 2020, after dropping his undisputed featherweight championship to the Australian back in December of the year prior.

In his only victory in that series of fights with Volkanovski, Max Holloway managed to land a close, decision win over recently minted interim featherweight titleholder, Yair Rodríguez – who is set to feature in a title unification clash with Volkanovski at UFC 290 in July.

Max Holloway welcomes a fourth clash with Alexander Volkanovski

Failing to rule out a fourth fight with Volkanovski despite failing to lodge a single win over the featherweight best, Holloway insists that he is still a better fighter than the Joe Lopez-trained technician.

“What kind of question is that?” Max Holloway asked ESPN MMA during a recent interview if he believed he was a better fighter than Alexander Volkanovski. “You know what I mean – yes, I do believe I am a better fighter than Alexander Volkanovski. If I didn’t believe I was a better fighter than him, then why I am fighting in the same weight class as the guy? Ask anybody who lost to anybody, do you think you are a better fighter then this guy? Of course, they are going to say [yes].”

“Once we start saying, ‘No I think [he is a better fighter]’ – once you get the acceptance that this guy might be better than me, then you don’t belong, you should retire,” Max Holloway explained. “Guys don’t understand that.”

Furthermore, Holloway, who briefly made a lightweight excursion in an interim title rematch with Dustin Poirier back in April 2019, failed to rule out the possibility of making a leap to the 155lbs division in the future following his Kansas City main event against the aforenoted, Allen.

Alex Pereira reacts to Israel Adesanya mocking his son after UFC 287 loss: ‘I wouldn’t do the same’

Alex Pereira reacts Adesanya taunting son celebration I wouldn't do the same UFC 287

Brazilian knockout artist, Alex Pereira has reacted to arch-rival, Israel Adesanya, taunting and mocking his son, Alessandro following his knockout loss at UFC 287 over the course of the weekend, claiming he would not have reacted the same if he was in a similar situation.

Pereira, who headlined the Saturday pay-per-view event under the promotion’s banner, suffered a thunderous second round KO loss to Nigerian-Kiwi striker, Adesanya in the pair’s championship rematch in Miami, Florida.

Starting well against his rival, Sao Paulo striker, Pereira even managed to unload on Adesanya at the Octagon fence in the second round, slamming leg kicks and a body shot, paired with a knee strike, before he was countered with two right hands from Adesanya – sending him to the canvas in a devastating KO loss.

Following his title triumph, City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya pointed to the crowd in search of Alex Pereira’s teenage son, Alessandro – falling to the canvas himself, mocking the latter’s choice to taunt him off the back of his 2017 KO loss to his father under the GLORY Kickboxing banner.

Alex Pereira opens up on his UFC 287 loss

Sharing his thoughts on Adesanya’s celebration, taunting his child, Pereira claimed that he would not have that mindset to carry out a similar celebration.

“I don’t know, I wouldn’t do the same,” Alex Pereira said during a video on his YouTube channel. “I can play with him [Alessandro], I’ve always played with him – I teased him. It was something that happened, but I don’t know – it’s another child. I don’t know what his feeling was. I don’t know. It is seven years ago [since Adesanya’s KO loss]. He was enduring it and I saw his joy that he had after the knockout, you know. Because that was his dream – that was his dream and he made it but we’re comparing him with a child who was 5 years old at the time, right? I don’t have that mind.”

“I can prove it because today he [Alessandro] is 12-years-old and before the fight, I saw that some reporters said, ‘You’re going to do this?’ [And Alessandro said] ‘I’m going to do it again’ and so on and he laughed, because he’s a kid, he thinks it’s funny. I did that, I knocked him out the night I won the belt and my kid was wanting to do the same thing up there. I said to him, ‘No. Stop – don’t do it, stay here and don’t do anything.’ I’m a conscious guy, and everything I’m saying here, really I’m saying and I wouldn’t do it.”

“I wouldn’t do it,” Alex Pereira explained. “If he did it, if he felt better that way, ok, it’s a relief. It’s a relief he had and if he thinks it’s better for him, ok. That won’t change anything for me.”

Touted to likely make a light heavyweight move in his Octagon return per UFC president, Dana White, Pereira said he would returned “stronger than ever” off the back of his stoppage loss to Adesanya.

“All the people who are following me since kickboxing, they know I am a hard worker and dedicated,” Alex Pereira explained. “I never quit. And the people who arrived now, you can think, how will this guy come back? Guys, I promise you, I’m going to come [back] firm and strong. I’m going to come [back] stronger than ever. You can write this down.”

Conor McGregor teases UFC return we are in the pool stay ready for date

In rather cryptic fashion, it appears former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has provided an update on his return to the organization, claiming he is “in the pool” – a potential nod to his return to the USADA testing-pool.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, most recently headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021 against former interim champion, Dustin Poirier, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula in an opening round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss.

Earlier this year, the Dubliner’s expected Octagon comeback was confirmed by the organization, with the former duel-weight champion serving as an opposing coach on The Ultimate Fighter 31 against lightweight contender, Michael Chandler – ahead of an end-of-season showdown.

While an official date, location, or event for the expected welterweight clash between McGregor and Chandler has yet to be determined at the time of publication, the former has tweeted a rather cryptic message, alluding to the potential confirmation of a date for his Octagon return.

“Stay Ready for the date,” Conor McGregor tweeted

Furthermore, over the weekend, McGregor posted several pictures of a swimming pool he appeared to be standing by – with the caption, “We are in the pool! Happy Easter everybody.”

A significant hurdle for McGregor to scale in order to make a return to the UFC comes in the form of his return to the USADA testing pool.

The Crumlin striker has yet to be tested by the anti-doping agency since the third quarter of 20121, providing a total of 16 test samples that year. In both 2022, and then this year, Conor McGregor has yet to submit any test samples to the United States Anti-Doping Agency at the time of publication.

Michael Chandler predicts dominant win over Conor McGregor

Over the course of the weekend, whilst viewing UFC 287 — impending opponent, Chandler claimed he would beat McGregor “within an inch of his life” in his latest prediction.

Jorge Masvidal misgendered Kevin Holland UFC 287 he called me a girl

Former UFC welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal has claimed he has no interest in providing any coverage to his recent run-in with division contender, Kevin Holland ahead of their respective outings at UFC 287 last weekend – detailing how the Californian striker “misgendered” him several times throughout their interactions.

Masvidal, a former two-time title challenger at the welterweight limit under the promotion’s banner, co-headlined UFC 287 last weekend in Miami, Florida – suffering a one-sided unanimous decision loss to former title chaser, Gilbert Burns.

Following the defeat, Masvidal, a native of the ‘Sunshine State’, confirmed his retirement from mixed martial arts with immediate effect, citing a loss in efficiency in his recent fights, and how he only wanted to compete successfully against top contenders in the division.

However, prior to any sort of clash with Burns at the flagship event – Jorge Masvidal engaged in two separate altercations with Riverside native, Holland during fight week.

Initially Masvidal and Holland were corralled by teammates and UFC officials at the fighter hotel, before the two were then separated outside the venue following ceremonial weigh-ins, with Holland alleged to have confronted Masvidal, calling him “baby girl”.

Jorge Masvidals claims Kevin Holland “misgendered” him during UFC 287 run-in

Addressing his pair of run-ins with Holland, American Top Team veteran, Masvidal claimed he did not give a “flying f*ck” about the outspoken challenger.

“I don’t give a flying f*ck about this guy [Kevin Holland],” Jorge Masvidal told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “If I run into him in a parking lot, we can have a discussion man-to-man, but like to fight this guy, or to hype anything up for a fight? No thanks. The guy’s a quitter and a bum. He called me a girl – he misgendered, he straight up misgendered me. He said it himself that he misgendered me. And I won’t stand for that. I won’t take that.”

“I’m like, ‘Don’t play with me, bro.’” Jorge Masvidal explained. “I’m not here to play with you in any way share or form. I don’t give a f*ck about your existence. If you do good, good. And if you do bad, I don’t give a f*ck. Just stay the f*ck away from me. You’re not gonna misgender me either.”

Featuring on the main card of UFC 287 himself, Holland managed to turn in his first victory inside three outings, defeating ATT staple, Santiago Ponzinibbio with a third round KO in a highlight-reel stoppage

Dricus du Plessis Israel Adesanya

After Israel Adesanya’s impressive victory at UFC 287, Dricus du Plessis had some choice words for the man. It seems the two have a fair amount of beef between them, and du Plessis wanted to ensure he let Adesanya know that he has an entire continent behind him and is not afraid.

Israel Adesanya had one of the greatest performances in his entire career at UFC 287. Not only did he finally defeat the biggest rival of his life, but he also did so in perhaps the most exciting and shocking way humanly possible. Alex Pereira had defeated Adesanya twice in kickboxing and once in MMA. Many counted ‘The Last Stylebender’ out when it came to the MMA rematch with ‘Poatan’, and Adesanya was even ridiculed for attempting to face the man again so soon.

However, Adesanya believed in himself, and that faith paid off. He literally had his back to the wall, as the saying goes, and when it mattered most: he performed. Lashing out with a series of right hands that would eventually separate Pereira from consciousness, ‘The Last Stylebender’ succeeded in his hellacious efforts and reclaimed his lost title.

Dricus du Plessis lets Israel Adesanya know he’s not afraid and has an entire continent at his back

Dricus du Plessis firmly believes he is next in line for a title shot, and as things continue to heat up between the pair, du Plessis is issuing firmer and more serious challenges to the throne.

“So you won’t say my name, that’s smart you better not,” Dricus du Plessis began on Twitter. “I don’t need your airtime at all, I have my whole continent of AFRICA behind me. Go enjoy your very spectacular victory at home in New Zealand . We are Africa we fear nothing.”

Israel Adesanya claims he's ruined christmas for Alex Pereira family UFC 287

Off the back of his spectacular title victory at UFC 287 over the weekend, newly minted undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya claims his win over Alex Pereira – and celebration pointed toward his son, Alessandro has “ruined Christmas” for the Brazilian family.

Headlining Saturday’s pay-per-view card against arch-rival, Pereira, Adesanya managed to reclaim the undisputed middleweight throne, stopping the Sao Paulo knockout artist with a thunderous second round counter KO of his own at the Octagon fence.

Bouncing back to the winner’s enclosure following a November knockout loss of his own against Pereira at Madison Square Garden, City Kickboxing striker, Adesanya managed to also land his first victory over the Brazilian in four fights over their respective combat sports careers.

Celebrating in infamous fashion following his KO win over Pereira, Adesanya fired a trio of imaginary arrows from a bow at the former who lay on the Octagon canvas, before mocking Pereira’s teenage son, Alessandro – who attended the event.

“I’m petty, bro,” Israel Adesanya said. “I remember the first time [Alex Pereira] knocked me out in Brazil, and his son came into the ring and then started to lie dead next to me, and I’m like, ‘you f*cking little asshole. I’ll whoop your ass if your dad don’t do it for you.’”

“But then, yeah, I looked for his kid [in the crowd], and I pointed at him, and I saw him, and I was like, hey, hey, hey, [motions like he fell] just to remind him,” Israel Adesanya explained.

Israel Adesanya uninterested in fifth fight with Alex Pereira

Urging Pereira to work his way back to a championship trilogy rubber match with him post-UFC 287 – Adesnaya claimed he was not interested in offering the Brazilian an immediate title re-run, also maintaining he had “ruined Christmas 2023” for the family
