According to ABC Action News, Geane Herrera crashed into a jeep, going at very ‘high speeds’ and after hitting the jeep, the motorcyclist struck the concrete barrier, and came back onto the roadway where he and the bike tumbled for several hundred feet. The motorcycle then burst into flames and the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Herrera was just 33 years old and had a 10-3 record in MMA. In the UFC, he lost a decision to Ray Borg in his promotional debut and followed that up with a TKO win over Joby Sanchez. He then dropped back-to-back decisions to Ali Bagautinov and Ben Nguyen and was released. He fought one more time in MMA defeating Darren Mima by submission at ACB 85.

Geane Herrera

“As is widely known funeral services are very expensive and our family does not have the means to cover the costs. We are asking for $50,000 but anything helps to cover for the funeral cost and leave a little bit of money for his son and future baby to give them some time to adjust and figure out life without their father going forward. We are asking family, friends, fans, the UFC community, the BKFC community, the fighting world and any stranger that can relate to our tragedy for support. Any little bit counts, please donate and help Geane’s family deal with this tragedy in any way,” part of the GoFundMe reads.

Herrera leaves behind a 16-year-old son, his 3-month pregnant girlfriend, mother, father, sisters, and a brother.

Javier Mendez, the head coach of Islam Makhachev has warned Max Holloway over a potential fight between the two.

Holloway is coming off a thrilling fifth-round knockout win over Justin Gaethje to win the BMF title. After the win, Holloway called out Ilia Topuria for the featherweight title, as he would return to his weight class. But, many fans wanted to see him stay at lightweight and fight Makhachev for the lightweight title.

If Holloway does stay at 155lbs and face Makhachev, Mendez believes it will be a long night for the Hawaiian.

“Justin Gaethje doesn’t use his wrestling. Islam Makhachev is not gonna go and stand with Max. He’s gonna take him down…so, it will be a grueling situation for Max. So, I don’t look at him as a huge threat,” Mendez said to Submission Radio.

Currently, Makhachev is set to defend his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier on June 1 in Newark, New Jersey. Should he win that, Holloway could face Makhachev for the belt, but if it does happen, Mendez does think it will be a tough fight for him.

Although Javier Mendez believes Max Holloway will have a long night against Islam Makhachev, the lightweight champ hasn’t shown much interest in the fight.

After UFC 300, Makhachev says Arman Tsarukyan will be next after Poirier as he believes Holloway would need to win a couple of fights at 155lbs to get a title shot, so he doesn’t have much interest in the scrap.

“If he beats a couple more guys in my division, we can fight,” Makhachev told the New York Post. “I don’t want to give him chance now because I have some contenders who I have to beat. Now I have Dustin, after we’ll have Arman [Tsarukyan]. I think I’ll have some [work] in my division, he has [work] in his division. Maybe if he wins his next fight. Maybe [if] he beats [Ilia] Topuria, and I finish all of my two fights, maybe.”

Makhachev has also hinted at moving up to welterweight to try and become a champ-champ should he beat Poirier at UFC 302.

Charles Oliveira welcomes welterweight fight after Colby Covington call out he talks a lot

Charles Oliveira may be ready for a change in scenery, and a move up to the welterweight division could give him just the very thing he is looking for.

Responding to a callout made by Colby Covington, Oliveira was asked about the prospect of moving up in weight and accepting that fight. Charles Oliveira smiled when he spoke about it and essentially admitted that he liked the idea of it. However, he also mentioned that it’s not really up to him, and the UFC would also have to weigh in on the matter.

“Man, in reality, it’s like I said,” Oliveira began, speaking to Championship Rounds. “It’s sitting down and looking at legacy, history, values. You have to sit down. When I woke up in the morning, thousands of people were sending me messages.”

“I sent it to Diego (Lima),” Charles Oliveira continued. “And Diego said it too; I see what you think. I said, ‘Diego, just sit down, talk, think, see what’s good, see what the UFC thinks about it.’”

“It’s not just what Charles thinks,” the former lightweight champion said. “It’s about what the UFC thinks about it. Colby is a talkative guy, he’s a guy who talks a lot, so let’s see. Why not?”

When asked if he would be willing to move up in weight if the proposal “made sense” to him, Charles Oliveira also replied in the affirmative. “For sure, if it makes sense, if it’s something good for me, why not?”

Melissa Gatto stunned the world at UFC Vegas 92 as her fight with Tamires Vidal took a very bizarre turn in the third round.

Up until that point, the fight had been playing out quite normally. Both fighters were eager to get a win, and as the rounds passed, they both never abandoned hopes. The fight for Gatto was of much significance, as her last two outings would see her be defeated. She seemed to be ahead going into the third round, and that’s when things took a turn for the bizarre.

In the third round, Melissa Gatto landed a punch that caught Vidal in the breast. Vidal turned away as if she expected things to maybe get stopped, and Gatto didn’t intend to stop anything. She poured on the pressure and swarmed her opponent, prompting the referee, Chris Tognoni, to stop the fight, signaling a TKO victory for Melissa Gatto.

Such a stoppage was definitely very odd, but luckily the fights were held at the UFC Apex, and things were so silent you might’ve been able to hear a pin drop. It was soon confirmed that the strike was indeed legal, albeit extremely rare. Gatto was awarded the victory, and just like that, her losing streak was officially put to rest.

While punches to the torso are universally legal under the current rules, one might say that a punch to the breast of a woman is a bit extreme. When men are hit in the groin, a timeout is issued due to the debilitating pain. It also doesn’t take a woman to imagine that getting hit in the breast is probably a similar pain. Yet, such a thing is very rare and hasn’t really happened enough for such a special rule change to be made.

Do you think a timeout should be given for breast shots in MMA?
