Zuffa LLC and the Ultimate Fighting Championship have been on a warpath lately, devouring their competition with the acquisition of Strikeforce and merger of the WEC. Now the UFC is officially the world’s largest  MMA promotion as well. Dominant Strikeforce fighters are signing with UFC, leaving behind fighters who just can’t hang with the big boys.

There is however, one major advantage that Strikeforce has over the UFC.

Her name is Kelli Hutcherson.

The exquisitely beautiful, extremely down to earth, newly crowned Miss Strikeforce 2011, and Maxim 2011 Hot 100 Lister has only been modeling for about a year and has already taken the world by storm.

Kelli got her start as a Rockstar Energy Drink model and has since worked for Metal Mulisha, Muscle Milk, Spike TV, Strikeforce and, most recently, Maxim Magazine.

Born and raised in Southern California, Kelli perfectly defines the ideal West Coast woman.

Just as Rachelle Leah, arguably the most famous ring girl in MMA history, moved on to bigger and better things—like posing for Playboy—Kelli Hutcherson is sure to follow suit.

Recently, the main focus has been on UFC starlets and ring girls, Arianny Celeste with her recent Playboy photo shoot and recent newcomer, Brittney Palmer.

Both Arianny and Brittney were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in my book of the hottest ring girls, until now.

The 22-year-old Hutcherson has without a doubt, become my No. 1 favorite ring girl in all of MMA.

That’s not to say that the other girls aren’t amazing; quite the contrary.

They also both have posed for Maxim, but Kelli’s shoot definitely takes the cake.

Kelli is a natural beauty who looks her best with little make-up. She has a body that Michael Angelo would be jealous of; even though she admits that she doesn’t work out, claiming her perfect figure is purely a result of good genetics.

Her invitingly warm smile and dazzling charm are enough to make fans feel all warm and fuzzy from only a glance at the TV screen.

Sorry guys, she is taken. Her boyfriend is pro surfer, Ricky Whitlock.

With the best Strikeforce fighters moving to the big stage in the UFC, will we see the best ring girls following suit?

Of course, I would love to see Kelli blowing me kisses from ringside at a UFC event. Who wouldn’t?

Kelli is already a fan favorite and is gaining more and more notoriety. She is quickly becoming known by many people, both inside and outside the octagon.

With her classy style, perfectly toned body and her “go with the flow” attitude, the sky is the limit for Kelli.

New York, you’re one step closer to the promised land.

Earlier today, the New York Senate passed a unanimous vote of 42-18 in favor of a bill that would legalize MMA in the Empire State.

The bill faced serious opposition in the past, and today proved no different on all ends of the spectrum, but the support of 42 senators outweighed the 18 detractors, leading to the bill passing through Senate.

While MMA has not been officially made legal in New York yet, the passing of the bill through the New York Senate was a necessary step—one that was taken as a complete victory by Dana White and others on Twitter and even Facebook.

The next necessary step is to get the bill passed through the Assembly, where Bob Reilly and other New York State Officials hold a seat, and in the past, that has also been an area of concern.

However, with how unanimously it passed through the Senate, there’s little doubt that it does stand a chance to make it through the assembly.

Will this be an easy feat?

Absolutely not.

it will involve the presentation of many strong, iron-willed facts to support the passing of the legislation as well as many more strong, iron-willed arguments to retort against the opposition’s case as to why the state should not legalize this sport, and history has shown that once this type of opposition is faced, it rarely ever loses.

It will not be an easy task to pass this legislation out of the State Assembly at all.

Then again, silencing the cries for an MMA event emanating from The Big Apple will not be an easy feat either.

Jon Jones and Rashad Evans: The Fallout Between the Former Friends Continues

The beef between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and his former friend and training partner Rashad Evans has taken on an Energizer Bunny type quality, it just keeps going and going and going, well, you get the picture.

The latest chapter in the ongoing saga has Evans sending a tweet to Jones that said in part, “U r my son!! Get off my phone fake a** white boy!!” The good folks over at CagePotato.com have posted photographic evidence of the text and Jon Jones also confirmed that it was from Evans.

Evans admitted to MMAWeekly Radio that he did send the message to Jones, “Yeah I did say that to him, but he also said a lot of things to me that I didn’t want to put out there. I mean, we were arguing—I said a lot of things, heated, back and forth, you know? But I did call him a fake ass white boy, I did,” Evans admitted.

“But its not that I think being a white boy is a bad thing, its not against white people in general. It’s an insult to him because, of course, he’s not white, you can see where the insult comes in,” Evans continued. “That’s the extent to the insult right there—it’s not anything against white people, it’s that he’s black and I’m calling him white.”

“It showed that it made him mad because he posted it on the Internet. What kind of move is that anyway, that’s like high school, not even high school, that’s like grade school. Look at what Rashad said to me.”

Jones and Evans had once said that they would never fight each other, but when Jones defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the light heavyweight title at UFC 128, a rift developed between the two after it was announced that Evans would be Jones’ first title defense.

A hand injury to Jones prevented that fight from taking place,

Since that time, the two have been exchanging words, mostly through Twitter and text messages.

If a fight between Jones and Evans were to ever take place, the UFC will have a great deal of material with which to promote this grudge match.

UFC Welterweight, Jon Fitch, has been asking for a rematch with Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre for what seems like three years now. Fitch is coming of a Draw versus BJ Penn, and will be sidelined until December due to shoulder surgery. He’s 21-1-1 in his last 23 fights. That one loss was the lopsided defeat to GSP.

After hearing of the new of a Champion vs. Champion matchup between Nick Diaz and Georges St. Pierre rumored to take place in December, Fitch took to Twitter to vent his frustration.

Fitch posted, “why would that fight be good. Diaz got title cuz Shields vacated the belt. Paper champ.”

He later posted, “Let’s see Shields vs. Diaz for number one contender while I’m hurt.”

He first calls Nick Diaz a “paper champ.” Then proposes a No. 1 contender’s match between teammates Nick Diaz and Jake Shields.

Does he mentiuon teammates fighting each other for the No. 1 contender spot because Dana White kept pushing Fitch to fight his teammate Josh Koscheck in order to get a title fight versus GSP?

He wasn’t finished, “Keep that going Fitch Fanatics GSPvsDiaz=bullsh**”

Fitch may disagree with the match-up selection, but outside of Anderson Silva, Diaz is the only opponent for GSP the majority of fans want to see.

UFC 131: In Shane Carwin, Junior Dos Santos Has a Tougher Battle Ahead of Him

I would love to see a rematch between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin.  I don’t think Lesnar got lucky when he defeated Carwin, but in a way I do think he pulled a rabbit out of a hat.  He survived a brutal first round beating that showed a less than stellar stand-up game, and recovered in between rounds to take advantage of Carwin’s lack of cardio, and sink in an arm triangle that nobody outside of Lesnar’s team saw coming.

Well played by Brock, no doubt, but if Carwin had to do it over again I’m willing to bet he’s learned his lesson about exhausting all your energy trying to finish an opponent, and would take greater care to prevent the submission.  With all that in mind, Lesnar’s replacement by Carwin against Junior dos Santos next month at UFC 131 presents a more difficult task for the Brazilian fighter.

Dos Santos’ ability to beat Lesnar depended on his being able to stuff Brock’s takedowns, and utilizing far superior boxing to send Lesnar spiraling back down the heavyweight ladder.  Given the history of both fighters, it certainly doesn’t seem like a stretch to say that.  Dos Santos arguably has the best boxing in the heavyweight division, and has showcased his heavy hands en route to taking out five of the six opponents he’s faced in the UFC.

The sixth, Roy Nelson, somehow survived being dos Santos’ heavy bag for three rounds before losing a decision.  Dos Santos’ only career loss came via arm bar in a Brazilian promotion before he came to the big leagues back in November of 2007.  While I’m sure his ground game has improved since then, dos Santos has made no secret of his desire to stand and bang with anyone put in front of him, and thus far it’s worked to near perfection.

In Carwin, dos Santos must now deal with a fighter with equal if not more power resting in his hands.  Additionally, as a former Division II wrestling champion, Shane Carwin surely isn’t uncomfortable going to the ground, though I’m not sure that dos Santos could say the same for himself.  In short, dos Santos is now facing a more well rounded fighter in Carwin, and it’s setting up a better fight for the fans.

From purely the stand-up perspective in the head-to-head battle, the hand speed belongs to dos Santos, while the punching power belongs to Carwin.  This arises not simply from the trail of destruction each one has left in the UFC, but how they’ve blazed those trails.  Dos Santos burst on to the scene with an enormous upset of Fabricio Werdum, in which he used a devastating upper-cut to end the fight, and has since utilized sharp boxing to outpoint the likes of Mirko Cro Cop, Gabriel Gonzaga, and the aforementioned Roy Nelson.

With each fight, dos Santos has displayed his brilliant hand speed as his most trusted tool.  Like a good boxer should, he’ll attack with a flurry of punches and jump back out of range of his opponents reach before he has a chance to counter.  For a textbook example of this, go back and watch his fight against Stefan Struve at UFC 95.  He hit Struve with seven shots before backing out, taking a quick break and pouncing back in with an overhand right that was the beginning of the end for Struve.  This all occurred in a matter of four seconds.  That kind of speed is an anomaly in MMA.

Carwin, meanwhile, has used the bricks he possess on the end of each arm to crush Christian Wellisch, Gonzaga, and Frank Mir to name a few.  Even more impressive, each of those three fights displayed Carwin’s power in a different manner.  In his UFC debut, Carwin threw a right cross that dropped Wellisch in the first round, sending his mouth guard flying across the Octagon.  Against Gonzaga, Carwin fought threw an early broken nose, and was on his heels backing up when he threw a short jab that ended Gonzaga’s night.

The ability to throw that knock out punch while retreating is something few fighters can do, and something MMA fans haven’t really seen since the glory days of Chuck Liddell.  Finally, against Mir, Carwin completely out-muscled him, pinning him against the cage and eventually using short, powerful dirty boxing that Mir was forced to crumble under.

It was only the fight against Wellisch that Carwin had the luxury of a full wind-up.  In the other two examples, he made the best of a small window to throw the punches necessary to end the fight.  Again, few fighters possess that kind of power.  For Carwin it’s his most prized asset.

Both Junior dos Santos and Shane Carwin possess phenomenal hands, and each has the skills to end a fight in the blink of an eye.  While dos Santos unfortunately has a tougher opponent on the horizon than the one he was originally scheduled to face, the fans get treated to a fight with greater potential.  Regardless of the outcome, the ringside doctors need to be sure they have the smelling salts handy.  Someone might need to be woken up.

UFC News: Vitor Belfort’s Coach Says Steven Seagal Is "All Propaganda"

Due to his recent success Vitor Belfort has his coach, Jayme Sandall, to credit.

In preparation for Vitor Belfort’s bout with Yoshihiro Akiyama UFC 133, Sandall has been helping the former UFC light heavyweight champion perfect a game plan for his opponent.

A Brazilian karate champion, Sandall has helped Belfort implement karate into his arsenal since returning to the organization three years ago. Sandall said he is confident that his teachings of karate will help Belfort pick up a victory.

“He’s a tough opponent, but they all are,” Sandall told TATAME on Belfort’s opponent, Akiyama.

“But I honestly can’t Picture Vitor losing this fight. In all ways I can picture it, I don’t see any way that Vitor would lose this one. It’s really unlikely.”

Belfort suffered his first knockout loss to UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, at UFC 127. Silva ended the bout with a highlight reel front kick that instantly dropped the Brazilian. Sandall said he helped Belfort train and prepare for a variety of kicks Silva utilizes, but he said the front kick was unexpected.

Sandall also commented on Silva’s teammate, Lyoto Machida, who landed a similar kick that knocked out his opponent, Randy Couture, at UFC 129. Sandall praised the technique Machida used and said it’s a common technique used in karate.

“I used to give the guys that kick a lot, a frontal flying kick,” he said. “You give one extra step to bring your leg and kick harder. I use to knock people down with kicks on their stomach. I actually got a few knockdowns with a kick on my stomach, but not on the face.

However while it has proven to be effective for both Silva and Machida, Sandall said to not believe the mystique surrounding their friend, actor and martial artist, Steven Seagal.

“I was surprised, and even Lyoto said all that Steven Seagal stuff, but people have to know that it’s all propaganda, because it was not Steven Seagal the one who taught him that kick, he knows it from Karate,” he said.

“I talked to Lyoto’s father the day after the fight and he told me: ‘I told Lyoto to train a lot’.”

In spite of Seagal’s alleged teachings, Sandall said the use of karate has helped mixed martial arts grow as a sport and vice versa.

“It was up and rise from it’s beginning. It was good for me, all of it is good to me, and to Karate too. I’m having the chance to introduce people to Karate, I had the chance to explain a little bit about its rules,” he said.
