After shockingly being submitted by Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout at UFC 196 earlier this month, it was widely thought that outspoken featherweight champion Conor McGregor would drop back down to 145-pounds to defend his title at UFC 200.

However, recent reports have indicated that a rematch between McGregor and Diaz seems to be the frontrunner to headline July 9’s blockbuster event from Las Vegas.

The Irishman’s coach even said that an announcement could be made within the coming days.

If the two do end up going at it again, Gunnar Nelson, a teammate of McGregor’s, is very confident that the “Notorious” one will fix his mistakes and pick the Stockton native apart:

“I think he will take his time and pick him apart a bit better,” Nelson told Daily Star. “I think Diaz won’t be able to get him down when Conor is on, and he reserves his energy and his balance is there.”

While Nelson did note Diaz’s unparalleled toughness, he also claimed that the Irish knockout artist should’ve finished the bout at UFC 196. With a few changes, “Gunni” sees McGregor getting the job done the second time around:

“I think the second (fight) Conor will pick him apart, but I think he’ll take a little bit more time doing it,” he continued. “Diaz is a tough guy and he’s used to being in there, but he (McGregor) should’ve put him away. But I think he can if he takes his time.”

While no official confirmation has been made, reports have stated that each man has verbally agreed to the bout.

Do you see a different outcome taking place in the rematch?

While the fight itself turned out to be an amazing affair, the build-up to March 5’s UFC 196 main event between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz was something else.

Serving as two of the most iconic trash talkers in the history of the sport, McGregor and Diaz repeatedly went at each other in a verbal war of attrition during the eleven days leading up to the bout after the Stockton native stepped in on short notice.

Despite the obvious entertainment that it provided, Diaz isn’t so sure that the “Notorious” one believed everything he was saying. In fact, Diaz felt as if some of McGregor’s talk was planned:

“It seemed like a lot of scripted stuff was going on,” Diaz told FOX Sports’ At The Buzzer on Wednesday. “Maybe he was serious about what he was saying, but it sounded like some bullsh*t to me.”

No matter the result of the trash talk battle, it was Diaz who, in the end, ultimately prevailed when the cage door closed. The long-time UFC veteran shocked the world, submitting the Irish title holder in the second round of their headlining bout.

It may have been the biggest fight of his life, and undoubtedly the biggest victory of his lengthy career, but Diaz claims that his life hasn’t changed too much in the aftermath, implying that he’s been famous for years now:

“My life is exactly the same, just with a little more press so far,” Diaz said. “It’s only been a few weeks, but it’s pretty much (the same). I don’t let it take a hold of me or anything. I’ve been in the UFC for nine years. I was famous nine years ago. I couldn’t walk through the mall or Wal-Mart at two in the morning and not get noticed. It’s been going like this so it’s pretty much the same.”

With a rumored rematch between the two potentially in the works for July’s UFC 200, fans may end up being treated to a full build up, while Diaz may be in for yet another huge payday.

How would you predict a second bout between Diaz and McGregor to play out?

Nate Diaz Calls McGregor Rematch “Funny” Since He Got Worked

Fresh off the heels of a somewhat shocking second round submission victory over Conor McGregor earlier this month, long-time veteran Nate Diaz has never been in a better position.

Taking the bout with McGregor on just 11 days notice, Diaz, although eating some damage in the first round, appeared to have outworked and simply outclassed the brash Irish champion.

According to Diaz, the “Notorious” one was on his way to getting knocked out had he not shot in for a takedown:

“[The fight with] Conor — that was on the way to being a knockout,” he told Rolling Stone.

“He was getting handed some solid (expletive). He got on me for the takedown because he was done.”

As for what lies ahead for the younger Diaz brother, reports had actually surfaced late last week implying that both he and McGregor had verbally agreed to rematch at July 9’s UFC 200 despite the clear cut finish in the first bout.

To Diaz, the idea of a rematch seems “funny”, especially given the fact that Jose Aldo has not yet been awarded his second shot at McGregor after losing his title to the Irishman in just 13-seconds last December:

“I lost plenty of decisions and I’ve never got a rematch, to this day,” he said.

“So, that’s crazy. Conor got worked over and now they’re saying, ‘rematch,’ which makes sense. I understand that. I just think it’s funny because, it’s like, Jose Aldo didn’t get a rematch.”

At the end of the day, Diaz has always lobbied for the “big” fights, or the money fights so to say, and a rematch with McGregor would obviously draw in millions of eyes. The magnitude of a possible second go with the “Notorious” one hasn’t kept the thought of a potential title fight away from Diaz, however:

“I would like to fight the lightweight title,” he said.

If you’re Diaz, are you agreeing to a rematch with McGregor, or searching for a second shot at 155-pound gold?

Jose Aldo: Conor McGregor Is Just A Pu**y That Quits

After suffering a somewhat shocking second round submission loss to Nate Diaz at March 5’s UFC 196, it was thought that featherweight champion Conor McGregor would drop back down to 145-pounds to defend his title at July’s UFC 200.

However, reports have surfaced earlier this week that a rematch between Diaz and McGregor is extremely close to being booked for this summer.

Former divisional kingpin Jose Aldo thinks otherwise, however, saying that the “Notorious” one will come back to featherweight after his “embarrassment” of a loss.

“Scarface” also sent out a warning to the Irishman:

“You will come back (to the featherweight division) with your tail between your legs after what happened, after that embarrassment,” Aldo told Esporte Espetacular. “You will come back. My hand almost caught you, but when it does for good, you will sleep.”

Despite likely winning the first round against Diaz, McGregor began to eat some big shots in the second before ultimately tapping out to a rear-naked-choke.

According to Aldo, the fight proved that McGregor is simply a quitter when he gets in trouble:

“He’s a lion when he’s attacking, but a kitten when he’s getting beat up,” Aldo said. “Everybody saw in his eyes that he’s just a p—- that quits when he’s getting beat up. That’s what we saw.”

As for what’s next, “Scarface” obviously wants the rematch, noting that the first fight was a fluke. The former champion vowed to run through McGregor, claiming that he can’t see any other outcome:

“I’m waiting for the rematch,” he said. “It’s the right thing to do in my opinion because there was no fight, and everybody wants to see a fight. Everybody wants to see me beating him up, and that’s what I’m going to do. I will run through him, that’s a fact. I don’t see other scenario in my head besides going there and winning, and getting my belt back.”

These are some bold claims from a man who suffered a 13-second knockout, but Aldo seems to be highly confident that he will reclaim his title.

Which rematch would you rather see? Diaz vs. McGregor, or McGregor vs. Aldo?

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are once again the big news in the mixed martial arts world. Just two weeks after their first fight went down at UFC 196, the two have verbally agreed to rematch at UFC 200. The milestone pay-per-view card was already being pegged as the next time McGregor would fight, but few expected the second fight with Diaz to be on the cards. With the featherweight title essentially in limbo, the news came as shocking to say the least.

The first fight between the two trash talking superstars shed light on many holes in McGregor’s game, holes that Diaz capitalized on in a big way. It was clear that ‘The Notorious’ couldn’t handle the deep waters of that fight, but many felt that excuses were being made for the featherweight champ after his loss. There’s no doubt that welterweight is perhaps too much of a leap for the Irish boxer, who would quite possibly be far more suited as a lightweight.

Whether you like the rematch or not, the 1.5 million estimated PPV buys from their first match is clearly the overruling factor for the UFC. In a game run by numbers, rankings are becoming more pointless by the day. Perhaps fighters should be listed in order of their net worth instead? We can take limited comfort in the fact that a full pre-fight rivalry between Diaz and McGregor shoud be hilariously entertaining, but it doesn’t clear the air of disrespect to the other rematches that McGregor owes.

Dustin Poirier, Joe Duffy, Jose Aldo, Max Holloway are a few names being thrown around, then there’s Frankie Edgar, who’s been surprisingly quiet since this whole storm got started yesterday. There’s rumours of ‘The Answer’ fighting in Madison Square Garden, currently caught up in a bog of legislation and corruption in New York, but just a glance at his Twitter feed would give you a clue or two.

Prior to his UFC 196 welterweight showdown with Nate Diaz, it was confirmed that 145-pound kingpin the “Notorious” Conor McGregor would be fighting at July 9’s massive UFC 200 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

After the brash Irishman suffered a shocking submission loss to Diaz, however, the options for who his UFC 200 opponent might be became a bit more limited.

It was looking as if McGregor would drop back down to featherweight to defend his title against either Jose Aldo or Frankie Edgar, but a report surfaced earlier this morning (March 18, 2016) indicating that the promotion was interested in booking a rematch between Diaz and McGregor for the summer showdown.

The news has now heightened, as FOX Sports has reported that the two combatants have actually verbally agreed to the rematch, which will likely serve as the event’s headliner.

While the rematch, especially once again taking place at 170-pounds, may be a head scratching move for McGregor given the outcome of the first bout, it remains a big money fight nonetheless.

The “Notorious” one has also made it very clear that he’d like to get revenge on the Stockton native, while Diaz has his eyes set on the biggest fights available.

At this moment, nothing has been confirmed regarding the potential clash, but all signs are pointing to the two facing off once again.
