AKA light heavyweight and heavyweight Mike Kyle will step in to fight contender Antonio Silva on this Saturday’s Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu card, Strikeforce revealed Monday to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani.
“[Kyle] talked to us about fighting at heavyweight about a month now or six weeks, about taking bigger fights,” Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said on The MMA Hour. “So we think it could be a great matchup and we’re happy to put it together.”

The time has come for former UFC champion Randy Couture to be “rational” about where his fighting career is headed, the 47-year-old MMA veteran told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.
Despite his three-fight win streak in the UFC, including victories over fellow former champ Mark Coleman and boxer James Toney in 2010, Couture said he doesn’t see another title shot in his future.
“I think that realistically the end of me making runs at the title was a while ago,” said Couture. “I’ve had a great year. I’ve had some great fights. Not too many of them really put me in line to be a number one contender or make a run at the title. To be honest, I just don’t see myself doing that at this stage in my career.”

In the wake of Valentijn Overeem’s mildly disappointing injury withdrawal over the weekend, we racked our brains trying to come up with logical heavyweight replacements to face Antonio Silva. Strikeforce, however, took the opposite approach — drafting one of their light-heavyweights and hoping for the best. The promotion confirmed today that reformed bad boy Mike Kyle would be facing Bigfoot on the televised portion of this Saturday’s "Henderson vs. Babalu" card. Huh. That’s an odd one.
To be fair, Kyle has competed at light-heavyweight and heavyweight throughout his career, and has gone 5-0 with 1 no-contest in his last six fights. But his record — especially under the Strikeforce banner, where he’s never won as a heavyweight — suggests that he’s best suited for 205. Competing at light-heavy last year, he scored an upset TKO over current champ Rafael Cavalcante, and made another LHW appearance in July, choking out Abongo Humphrey. The last time Kyle competed for Strikeforce as a heavyweight, he was quickly choked out by Fabricio Werdum.
Filed under: UFC, NewsIn recent months, the situation surrounding Randy Couture’s fighting future has become a bit hazy, with first his lawyer and then Couture himself indicating that he could be on his way to calling it a career.
Recently, the MMA legend stated that if he had to choose between a big fight and a movie role, he’d likely pick the film work as he looks to transition into a career past professional athletics.
With cards quickly filling into the early spring of 2011, Couture has yet to be scheduled for a bout, leaving many to wonder what lies ahead. Now, we have the answer, and it’s on the silver screen.

– Replacing the unfortunately injured Jose Aldo at UFC 125 against Josh Grispi will be Dustin Poirier, an 8-1 featherweight prospect who just knocked out Zach Micklewright in 53 seconds earlier this month at WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki. Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann will now be the event’s co-headliner, in support of the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard lightweight title fight.
– Coming off an ugly knockout loss against George Roop at WEC 51, "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung has his win-or-go-home fight booked, as he’ll be taking on Rani Yahya at Fight for the Troops 2 on January 22nd. It’ll be the only fight on the card where you won’t be able to chant "U!S!A!" in support of at least one of the fighters. Expect a lot of fans in the arena to make trips to the bathroom.

UFC middleweight contender Gerald Harrisconfirmed last night that he has been released by the UFC following his decision loss to Maiquel Falcao at UFC 123. Yes, Gerald Harris, the SportsCenter highlight-maker and all-around nice guy, who had come into the fight with a 3-0 Octagon record and two Knockout of the Night bonuses under his belt. Even considering how lackluster his fight last weekend turned out, this has to be the most unexpected UFC firing in recent memory. Is the UFC so dead-set on trimming their roster with the influx of WEC talent that they’ll bounce a rising star for one bad showing? Maybe. But get this…
