Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will collide once again.

Last year, the pair of world-class middleweights clashed in Las Vegas, Nevada in a tremendous back-and-forth affair. The fight went all 12 rounds, and when it was all said and done, many believed Golovkin handily took the fight on the judges’ scorecards.

Instead, some controversial scorecards were read out en-route to a Majority Draw decision. Despite the draw, Golovkin retained his WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO middleweight titles. Of course, given the way one of the most highly-anticipated boxing events in recent memory ended, a rematch was warranted.

The bout was originally slated for May 5th earlier this year. However, that was scrapped after Canelo failed a drug test for the banned substance, clenbuterol. Now, the two rivals will once again fight to determine who is the best middleweight in boxing today. It all goes down tomorrow (Sat. September 15, 2018) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Longtime UFC veteran Erick Silva made his return to the cage in a big way.

At Friday night’s (July 20, 2018) LFA 45 event in Cabazon, California at the Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa, Silva snapped a two fight losing streak when he picked up a spectacular win in his fight against Bellator veteran Nick Barnes in the main event of this show that aired on AXS TV as he was able to pull a highlight-reel come-from-behind win.

In the fight, which was quite epic, Silva was dropped early in the fight by a short left hook but then came back with a nasty armbar from the bottom at 4:43 of the opening round. This fight marked his first outside of the Octagon under the UFC banner since 2010.

Silva’s performance in his LFA debut capped off seven finishes in seven fights on the LFA 45 broadcast as the night started quickly with two first-round finishes including this highlight-reel head-kick KO by Kailan Hill.

Also, another fun fact, UFC featherweight contender Brian Ortega, who has a past of fighting in the LFA, was in attendance for this event where he was interviewed about his canceled title fight at the UFC 226 pay-per-view event earlier this month against featherweight champion Max Holloway.

UFC Veteran Chris Leben is coming out of retirement but his next fight won’t take place inside of the Octagon.

Leben has had some hard times after he decided to call it quits in Jan. 2014 ending a 12-year long career that included 22 fights in the UFC and following that decision, he was ordered to 120 days in jail after he was convicted of breaking and entering his ex-wife’s apartment, possession of illegal firearms and violating a court order held by Kaleena Leben. He started his sentence back in September of 2015 but was later released.

However, things were looking up for him as he signed an exclusive multi-year, multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA but Leben’s comeback was cut short after doctors found a severe medical condition that left him with just 18 percent of normal blood flow to his heart, which is a life-threatening abnormality to the left ventricle of his heart that was oversized, misshapen, and not operating prop and as a result, he never fought in Bellator.

That has all changed now that he has been cleared to fight Phil Baroni on Oct. 20 in a bare-knuckle boxing match with the World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation in Casper, Wyoming. Leben made the news official by writing the following on his official Instagram account:

“Just signed my contract with the world bareknuckle fighting federation to fight Phil Baroni October 20 I’m back baby.”

On the flip side, Baroni has competed in several top promotions in his pro-MMA career including UFC, Pride FC, Elite XC, Strikeforce, DREAM, Bellator, ONE Championship in his nearly two decades of experience in the sport and has fought top names such as Frank Shamrock, Karo Parisyan, Brad Tavares, Kazuo Misaki, Dave Menne, among many others.

Boxing purists’ most anticipated fight of the year ended with one of the most disappointing decisions that could have come out of the bout.

Mexican mega-star Canelo Alvarez has laid waste to the majority of those who have stepped into the squared circle against him, with the exception of 50-0 Floyd Mayweather back in September of 2013. He then embarked on a seven-fight win streak that concluded with a lopsided decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. After the bout, undefeated knockout artist Gennady Golovkin made his way to the ring to confront Alvarez, setting up their highly-anticipated meeting for tonight (Sat. September 16, 2017).

Golovkin is a supreme knockout artist who has won all 37 of his professional fights, finishing 33 of them via knockout. Boxing fans had been clamoring to see their sport’s biggest star, Canelo, go one-on-one with one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet, Golovkin.

When the two finally met inside the ring, it was a fairly back-and-forth affair in the early rounds that saw each man land their respectable shots, however, Golovkin would clearly win the rest of the fight from the fifth round onward. Following the final bell after the 12th round, it seemed as though the Mexican would be handed his second loss in four years. When the judges read aloud their final scorecards, however, it was declared that the fight was scored a Majority Draw.

The finish was highly controversial amongst the boxing community, with many believing that Golovkin clearly won the fight. Both Canelo and Golovkin expressed interest in an immediate rematch. What were your thoughts on the bout? Let us know in the comments!

Last night, Dern met Mesquita in the finals of the absolute class of the IBJJF’s Rio Falls grappling event from the Tijuca Tenis Club gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and suffered her first submission defeat in a long period of time.

Chael Sonnen, who is coming off a loss to Tito Ortiz at Bellator 170 last weekend, was scheduled to compete against decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Garry Tonon on Jan. 29 in a grappling match at Submission Underground 3. Originally, Hector Lombard, who was set to grapple with Tonon at the event, was forced to withdraw from the match due to his upcoming bout against Johny Hendricks on Feb. 19.

Sonnen, the owner and promoter of SUG, was pulled from the event due to Bellator MMA, according to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting.

The event takes place on Jan. 29 at the Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon. The grappling-only event is headlined by Dillon Danis, who is Conor McGregor’s training partner, and AJ Agazarm, The event will stream live on FloGrappling. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on who will replace Sonnen and grapple with Tonon at the event. Here is the updated card:
