Jones, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion and current undisputed heavyweight gold holder, most recently headlined UFC 285 back in March, submitting common-foe, former interim champion, Ciryl Gane in a one-sided first round guillotine choke, clinching the vacant heavyweight crown.

As for Ngannou, the Cameroonian has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 270 himself back in January of last year, defeating Gane also, unifying the division titles in a unanimous decision triumph.

Departing the UFC following the completion of his contractual obligations with the promotion, Ngannou has since inked a multi-fight deal with the PFL, ahead of an expected return to mixed martial arts competition in March of next year.

With both Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou under the same roof last night at PFL 5 – Jones, who was cornering his teammate and event headliner, Maurice Greene, shared a face-off with the Batié native, with the pair discussing their failed pairing.

Issuing a warning to Ngannou, Jon Jones told the former “you don’t want no smoke”, before claiming “it’s going to take more than a year” for the former heavyweight champion to improve his grappling ability to a sufficient level.

When questioned where he was for three years as Ngannou claimed he had offered to fight him on multiple occasions, Jones replied “I had to get enough size to kick your ass.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

A much clamored for fight between the duo, Jones has been touted to return to the Octagon at UFC 295 in November against either former champion, Stipe Miocic, or the surging, Sergei Pavlovich at Madison Square Garden, before calling time on his professional mixed martial arts career.

PFL heavyweight is Ante Delija welcomes the challenge of Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou’s recent situation has become one of the biggest stories within MMA for quite some time. After a long and ugly contract dispute with the UFC, ‘The Predator’ would test the free agency market rather the resigning with the promotion. Ngannou would land himself a monumental deal with the PFL, not only fulfilling his financial requirements, but also his personal details that were all important.

Ngannou is set to compete in the PFL’s super fight division, but there is questions on who a viable opponent would be as it Ngannou’s bouts are set to be pay-per-view. Heavyweight lacks significant depth and a lot of the elite big men are already signed to UFC.

Ante Delija outlined as welcoming opponent

Reigning PFL heavyweight champion Delija is one of PFL’s brightest heavyweights and should he continue his current winning streak, could find himself in a Ngannou fight. PFL analyst and commentator, Randy Couture recently expressed his interest in the matchup.

“Ante Delija won last year’s championship in stellar fashion and he was very highly touted when we signed him,” Couture said to MMA Junkie. “He struggled with the format early on, and I think he sorted it out.

“He’s a game fighter. He’s a solid, well-rounded fighter. Francis Ngannou and Ante Delija, that would be a great fight. I would watch that fight, and I would pay a pay-per-view to watch that fight.” (H/T MMAJunkie)

Talking to MMA News, Delija would be questioned on the interest in a potential Ngannou fight and seems up for the challenge.

I’m very motivated to conquer and get this belt, and fight Francis Ngannou,” Delija exclaimed. “Ngannou is one of the greatest, No. 1 in the world at heavyweight, and I feel like I’m also No. 1 in the world, so, of course, I’m gonna go for his head.”

“We can’t know until the fight happens, but I’m very motivated to fight him at any cost.”

Engaging in a slew of back-and-forths with both Ngannou and Jones over the course of recent weeks, Fury – who was offered a route to a fight with the current heavyweight champion by UFC president, Dana White, has now claimed to fight both Ngannou and the latter on the same night.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from combat sports since January of last year, successfully unifying the division titles with a unanimous decision win over then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane.

Departing the UFC back in January of this year following the completion of his contractual obligations with the organization, Ngannou recently put pen to paper on a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League).

Linked with a transition to professional boxing before the close of this annum, Ngannou has been tied to a potential fight with former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder – as well as current gold holder, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, and Derek Chisora.

Francis Ngannou revealed a two-fight series with Deontay Wilder was “serious”

Sharing his thoughts on Wilder’s recent appearance at PFL 4, Ngannou revealed talks of a potential two-fight series were “serious”.

“I didn’t know that he (Deontay Wilder) was supposed to be there, but that was a good come-out,” Francis Ngannou told The Schmo. “We were having a conversation earlier this year before they came out with a potential fight in December. That’s why we’re going to hold that up in order to finish his business in December. But we were serious about a two-fight deal.”

As far as a return to mixed martial arts competition next year, Ngannou described the possibility of a return as a a “definite” one, however, was unsure if he would fight this year.

“Inside the cage; definitely 2024,” Francis Ngannou explained. “Inside the ring; not quite sure yet. It’s still possible for this year, [but] nothing [is] guaranteed.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Moraes, a former UFC bantamweight title challenger and former WSOF (World Series of Fighting) gold holder, suffered his seventh consecutive loss and seventh straight defeat via strikes earlier this week at PFL 4 against Braga.

Without a victory since UFC 245 back in December 2019, Moraes rebounded from a miscued bantamweight title fight against former featherweight champion and compatriot, Jose Aldo – landing a close, debated split decision win over the Manaus favorite.

Suffering consecutive stoppage losses to Cory Sandhagen, Rob Font, Merab Dvalishvili, and Song Yadong during his remaining UFC tenure, Moraes would then briefly retire from mixed martial arts competition – before signing with the Peter Murray-led, PFL.

Landing in the Professional Fighters League back in November of last year, Moraes suffered a third round TKO loss to his namesake, Sheymon Moraes, before dropping a leg kick TKO loss to eventual featherweight tournament winner, Brendan Loughnane.

And following this week’s TKO loss to Braga, Nova Friburgo native, Moraes once more announced his retirement from active competition – admitting that despite his recent continued skid, he gave his career everything he had.

Former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder seems to be interested in fighting Francis Ngannou in both MMA and boxing.

It has been apparent for some time now that Ngannou has been highly interested in making the switch to boxing, namely targeting big time heavyweights such as Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. His new deal with the PFL means that ‘The Predator‘ is free to explore boxing matchups out with the promotion, but it seems that one of the big boys have come to him.

Last night ‘The Bronze Bomber’ attended PFL 4 in Atlanta, Georgia and his appearance did not disappoint. The often animated Wilder spoke to the broadcast team and when the formerly mentioned Ngannou matchup was brought up, Wilder said he would be interested in facing Ngannou. In fact, Wilder would go as far as to say he would be willing to step into the cage.

“I thought about this many times,” Wilder began. “Even with Ngannou, we were talking about getting together. You always see the MMA guys crossing over, but you never see the boxers crossing over, so I said I’m willing to make it more interesting for the fans and just the whole combat family as in a whole. I said why don’t you come to my backyard, and after we handle business, I can come to yours and crossover and I really meant it. So things are still up in the air, but I have seen myself on this side of the field, you know. People will be very impressed on what I can do in my abilities to be here.”

Wilder would continue, doubling down on his claims that he would be willing to face Ngannou inside the PFL cage.

“Aye Francis, if you listening, we discussed this before, and hey, we got many space and opportunity to discuss it once more,” Wilder said “Aye, I’m looking for a two-fight crossing over. I’m willing to just go in the octagon as well as the original plans, but you know, the fans want to see it. I want to be a part of it. So let’s give them what they want to see.“

While an Ngannou Vs. Wilder matchup is a fun idea, the chances of it actually happening any time soon are slim. Wilder has been involved in negotiations to face Joshua for 10’s of millions of dollars later this year and its unclear, even with apparent new investors, if the PFL could match such a purse. However, should Wilder drop his next couple bout, options become slim or if any number of events take place, the matchup could take place. (H/T MMA News)
