“Rampage” Jackson “Done With Fighting” When Movie Career Takes Off

You likely can recall last September, when the internet was rife with speculation and reports, as to whether or not “Rampage” Jackson would ever step foot in the Octagon again. At the time, the former light-heavyweight champ and UFC boss man Dana White were fully engaged in an all out ‘don’t blame me, blame him’ tit for tat, after Jackson postponed his December fight with Rashad Evans to take part in the A-Team. While many observers likely never thought Jackson was really ‘retired’ (somehow in sports the word retirement just doesn’t mean the same thing), we were kind of surprised to find out that Jackson had done a complete reversal earlier this year, when it was announced he had signed a new  6 fight deal.

After Jackson lost by UD to his arch nemesis Evans at UFC 114, and looked rusty while doing so, a lot of post fight talk immediately turned to who and Rampage would fight next (Lyoto Machida, November 20th…awesome). Talk about his acting career kind of seems to have taken a back seat no? Does that mean it’s MMA from here on out? Nope. In a recent interview with fellow A-Team actor Sharlto Copley, Rampage had this to say when asked about his future in fighting (thanks to MMA Bay for the tip).

“Honestly, when movies start paying me as much, just as much, same amount; I gotta keep up my lifestyle, I’m like done with fighting. Right now fighting is my bread, it’s my living.”

Huh. Not exactly a long term commitment to fighting now is it? (Not that anyone should truly be shocked by this) Your thoughts Mr. White?

Lyoto Machida Would Welcome “Test” Against “Rampage” Jackson

Yesterday we passed along the word from MMA Junkie, who reported that “Rampage” Jackson has apparently verbally agreed to fight Lyoto Machida, November 20th. In addition to that report, which cited “sources close to the organization”, a recent ‘tweet’ from Rampage stating he’s ready to fight some dude whose name he can’t spell (another zinger […]

Yesterday we passed along the word from MMA Junkie, who reported that “Rampage” Jackson has apparently verbally agreed to fight Lyoto Machida, November 20th. In addition to that report, which cited “sources close to the organization”, a recent ‘tweet’ from Rampage stating he’s ready to fight some dude whose name he can’t spell (another zinger from Jackson’s ‘am I illiterate?’ material), certainly seemed to jive with the story.

Well, here’s move evidence to toss onto the ‘looks like this is really happening’ pile; in a video interview posted on Sherdog today, which was apparently taken earlier this month, Machida talked about a variety of things including his recent KTFO loss to “Shogun” Rua and helping Anderson Silva prepare for Chael ‘Don’t Be Shy’ Sonnen. Machida conceded that although he would love to fight Rua for a third time, he understood that the UFC wasn’t likely to go in that direction for his next bout (also because Shogun is on the DL). When asked who would be his second choice- the former champion said this:

“I think Quinton Jackson would be the ideal guy for me; a guy who was champ and among the best. He is a great opponent; a very tough guy. I have a respect for him as does everyone else, but I’d like to test my technique against him.”…“I’m sure it would be a tough fight. He is a fighter who has been champion but I believe a lot in my work.”

Looks like the MMA gods are probably blessing us with another great tilt huh?

If signed, it would be a battle of former UFC light-heavyweight champions, but a reported Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida matchup has yet to be officially added to the UFC calendar.

That’s the word coming from UFC President Dana White, who responded to an MMA Fighting inquiry about whether the bout was finalized with a text reading “Not yet.”

Still, at least one of the fighters has agreed to it. A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that Jackson has agreed to the November bout.

Report: “Rampage” Jackson Verbally Agrees to Fight Lyoto Machida Nov. 20th

After “Rampage” Jackson lost to Rashad Evans in May, we immediately celebrated with childish joy, when Dana White stated afterwardS that B.A. Baracus 2.0 may face Lyoto Machida next. It’s a match-up that makes total sense- two former champs coming off a loss- it should sell a ton of PPV’s; let’s do it up right? Now, when Jackson was quoted saying recently he was hoping to do a rematch with Forrest Griffin that also sounded pretty sweet, but maybe because we haven’t seen Machida vs. Jackson before, that bout remained as our starting QB (having a fine back-up ready to go is one of life’s most valuable lessons…)

Well, in a story this AM from MMA Junkie, the outlet is reporting that “sources close to the organization” have informed the outlet that Jackson has verbally agreed to fight Machida, November 20th. The charismatic former champion also posted this on his Twitter yesterday:

“almost ready 2 sign the bout agreement! i would tell yall who im gonna get down with, but i cant spell his name….hahaha”

Now, Rampage’s usual bit about his linguistic skills aside, we’re thinking that joke can’t be referring to the word Griffin. So, it would appear that a bout between Jackson and Machida is a couple of pen strokes away. It’s a huge fight that will say a lot about where each guy sits in the division.

Silva and Machida Talk Fights with Sonnen and Rampage

(Somehow, I don’t think this is the first time Chael rocked this feathered coif.)

Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida spoke with Sherdog.com recently about "The Spider’s" upcoming UFC 117 tilt with Chael Sonnen and "The Dragon’s" rumored bout with Quinton Rampage Jackson among other topics.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m not easily entertained or because every fighter seems to spout the same tired crap to the same tired questions, but I would be much more interested in all the pre-fight drama if they made these guys live together for their entire training camp before they fight like on "The Ultimate Fighter." That way, we could watch them squabble about real issues they have with each other like who left the toilet seat up and who drank the last of the morning urine and didn’t throw out the container. You can’t fake that kind of drama.
