The UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was proudly showing off his weight training on Instagram when former champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson mocked him stating that he’s seen MMA icon Chuck Liddell lift heavier.

Bones‘ Jon Jones is an all-time great in MMA with his legendary run in the light heavyweight division. Since becoming champion in 2011, Jones has defeated notable fighters such as Rashad Evans, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, Daniel Cormier, Vitor Belfort, Lyoto Machida, and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, among many others. Eventually, he vacated his light heavyweight throne, and ‘Bones’ moved up to heavyweight where he earned UFC gold.

Now on social media, Jon Jones often shows off his new heavyweight physique. He said:

“240 pounds, fast and strong. I used to walk around at 235lbs as a light heavyweight. This almost feels like a light heavyweight fight without the weight cut.”

Former UFC champion Quinton ‘Rampage‘ Jackson remarked:

“I’ve seen Chuck lift more”

Chuck Liddell recently said, in an interview with Jackson, that in his prime he would have been able to defeat the all-time great Jon Jones. ‘The Iceman’ was a key figure in helping transition the sport from underground to mainstream. The knockout striker was celebrated for his notable wins over Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz. On facing Jon Jones, Liddell said:

“That’s why I always said I would’ve been a bad matchup for [Jones] cause I’m probably one of the few guys where he would have a hard time dictating where I fought him. You know, I would’ve fought him. He would’ve had to fight me standing up, he couldn’t outwrestle me. He couldn’t take me down…He wouldn’t have been able to take me down. He would’ve had to strike with me.”

Lists are always going to create discussion in regards to which options should or shouldn’t have made it onto the final version. This is no different with ESPN’s Top 10 men’s MMA fighters of the 21st century list.

Unsurprisingly, the current UFC heavyweight champion and consensus greatest of all time, Jon Jones, takes the top spot with the usual cast following behind him. Welterweight great Georges St-Pierre is the runner-up with the long-time champion of the weight class above him, Anderson Silva, rounding out the top three.

Dominant champions Demetrious Johnson and Khabib Nurmagomedov make up the top five whilst Fedor Emelianenko, Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, BJ Penn and Kamaru Usman complete the full list.

On a recent episode of the Jaxxon Podcast, two men who are in a great position to debate the list did just that as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Liddell spoke about who could have earned a spot that ultimately didn’t.

Jackson, perhaps controversially, said that he isn’t sure whether the number five pick had enough fights at the highest level to be considered, especially when someone like Matt Hughes didn’t make the cut.

“Nothing against Khabib, I just don’t think he fought enough fights. To be on there and to not have Matt Hughes on there, you know what I’m saying cus he was champion for a long time.”

Liddell, who did make the cut, responded by agreeing with his former opponent’s take that Hughes deserves a mention. He also named one other great champion that would have undoubtedly been in contention, even if some of his best work was done before he arrived in the UFC.

“If you look at the strength of opponents, you know. There’s some other guys in there, José Aldo. A beast man, for years. Those lists are lists man and all those guys are quality guys. It’s tough really.”

Rampage Jackson reveals hardest hitting fighter he's ever faced I never saw it coming

Rampage Jackson is the former UFC light heavyweight champion and has fought several future and current Hall of Famers, but one opponent sticks out as the hardest hitter.

Jackson was never scared of any opponent and in his career, he fought the likes of Jon Jones, Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin, Lyoto Machida, and Glover Teixeira, but he says Fedor Emelianenko is the person who hit the hardest.

“I always said Kevin Randleman until my last fight with Fedor,” Jackson said when asked who hit him the hardest on the JAXXON podcast (via talkSport). “Fedor hit me with a punch. I never even saw that punch coming. Never even saw it.”

Jackson’s last fight as a pro-MMA fight was against Emelianenko in December of 2019 and it was the Russian who won by first-round knockout, as Jackson says he didn’t even see the punch and the power he had put him out.

Fedor Emelianenko is considered one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time.

The Russian was a feared heavyweight for years, and although Rampage Jackson lost to him, he says he is happy he got the chance to share the ring with him.

“He’s my favorite fighter. I love watching him fight. He’s no-nonsense. When he fought Kevin Randleman, Kevin Randleman slammed him on his neck and the Japanese newspapers took pictures of him,” Jackson said.

“Frame by frame they showed Fedor upside down in the air getting slammed and his facial expression never changed. Stone cold. That’s not normal, bro. Fedor, for a heavyweight, he was really fast. And he was very dangerous on the ground, so he submitted a lot of people,” Jackson added.

Rampage Jackson finished his MMA career with a record of 38-14 and is the former UFC light heavyweight and unified the Pride middleweight title when he won the light heavyweight title.

In his career, Jackson holds notable wins over Liddell, Kevin Randleman, Dan Henderson, and Wanderlei Silva among others.

Rampage Jackson on fantasy fight with Alex Pereira I wouldn't take him down

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Rampage Jackson claims he likely would not have implemented much wrestling or grappling tactics in a fantasy fight with current division champion, Alex Pereira if they shared the Octagon during their primes.

Jackson, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is revered as one the most formidable knockout artists in Octagon antiquity, as well as one of the most recognizable fighters in modern mixed martial arts.

As for Pereira, the Brazilian phenom has enjoyed a roughshod run through both the middleweight and light heavyweight ranks since his move to the UFC less than three years ago, adding to his stature with a stunning knockout win at UFC 303 last month.

Headlining the International Fight Week card on short notice against former champion, Jiri Prochazka, Pereira felled the Czech Republic native with a spectacular second round high-kick knockout win in their Las Vegas rematch.

And discussing the rise and dominant run of Sao Paulo finisher, Pereira, former UFC star, Jackson broke down a fantasy fight between himself and the Brazilian, claiming he likely would have stood and traded with the vicious striker.

“I probably wouldn’t have tried to take Alex (Pereira) down,” Rampage Jackson said during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. “I probably would have tried [to strike with him] until he started f*cking me up, then be like, ‘Oh, sh*t, it’s like to take him down.’”

During his title run with the UFC, Jackson turned in a stunning knockout win over Chuck Liddell back in 2007, before successfully defending the crown in a unanimous decision win over fellow former PRIDE FC star, Dan Henderson.

Who would have won in a fantasy UFC showdown: Rampage Jackson or Alex Pereira?

Rampage Jackson was a legendary figure in Japan as he competed in Pride from 2001 until 2006 as he had 19 straight fights in Japan.

With Jackson being a beloved figure in Japan, he met a member of the Yazuka Gang, who was running Japan at that time. The gang was involved in gambling, drug trafficking, and extortion and they allegedly had ties to Pride.

After some time, Rampage Jackson finally met a gang member who found out he had a Japanese kid, and the gang member gave him a unique gift.

“I had a friend out there. His name was 36 and the guy took a liking to me. He was super cool all [tattooed] up. I think he was super rich. When he found out that I had Japanese kids he said, ‘Your son needs this’. It was like a gold samurai helmet,” Jackson said on The Joe Rogan Experience.

Jackson says his ex-wife told him the gift was worth around $30,000 to $40,000.

Rampage Jackson did return to Japan for his last MMA fight back in 2019 as he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Fedor Emelinaneko.

Rampage Jackson teases boxing return

Rampage Jackson was linked to a boxing match with Shannon Briggs last month in Qatar but the fight was scratched due to some concerns the promotion was scamming them.

Although Jackson is hopeful he still can box Briggs, he doubts it will happen and instead is turning his attention to a boxing match against Rashad Evans.

“He and I are talking about doing a boxing match against each other in November,” Jackson said. “We’re trying to get that going.”

Evans has also expressed interest in the boxing match with Jackson and it does seem likely it will happen soon.

Jackson is 38-14 as a pro-MMA fighter but hasn’t fought since 2019. He is the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
