Randy Brown is coming off a unanimous decision win over Francisco Trinaldo at UFC Vegas 61. The 170-pounder spoke with Lowkick MMA’s Mike Owens about a potential Michael Chiesa fight, wanting one more fight in 2022 and his recent win against Trinaldo.

‘Rude Boy’ has been outspoken about who he would like to face inside the octagon next. He has called for a shot against Michael Chiesa. In 2019, Brown first explained his desire to test his skills against Chiesa. He shared the same sentiment after his win against Trinaldo.

“The story is I’ve called him out before, plenty of times. We’ve had convos in the past and I just think it makes for a great fight,” Brown said. “He’ll try to wrestle me, I’ll try to knock him out. Classic grappler versus striker. I think it makes for a fun fight.”

Randy Brown is convinced that there are pros and cons of being ranked in the welterweight division

Brown believes that ranked welterweights stall the division for certain opportunities. He says that he’d rather fight consistently by fighting someone outside the rankings. If he doesn’t stay active, it affects the income he needs to provide for his family.

Guys guarding their rank, that’s all that is. Why would I want to be in the rankings if that’s the case…Those dudes don’t fight each other. They just sit around and wait for the right moment and I get it, to further this career, but… I can’t fight once every other year.”

Brown (16-4) won a tough three-round fight against veteran Francisco Trinaldo to extend his win streak to four. He says Trinaldo brings a level of ‘durability’ and ‘presence’  that makes him a hard opponent.

“It wasn’t my best performance but I’m happy I got the job done against a crafty, gritty veteran like Francisco Trinaldo,” Brown said. “A win over him is great but to look like a world beater against him is hard because he’s dangerous at all times. There’s no point where you feel safe. That’s why my output was very low in that fight.”

The 32-year-old isn’t ruling out a return to the octagon in 2022. He says it all comes down to if the UFC can find an opponent for him before the year is over.

It’s possible, you never know. I’m fully healthy [and] I have no injuries at all…It’s definitely doable. It’s just a matter of if there is someone willing to step up and fight,” said Brown.

UFC welterweight Randy Brown gave credit to boxing legend Muhammad Ali for his win over Khaos Williams to open up the UFC 274 main card.

Brown earned a split decision win over Williams to capture his third-straight victory. He’s five of his last six fights overall, including most recently against Jared Gooden last October.

Brown’s boxing was a sight to behold in his victory over Williams. He used solid defensive work to go with opportunistic striking late in the fight to secure the win.

During his UFC 274 post-fight press conference, Brown revealed that he made Ali’s boxing career a major part of his fight preparation.

“It was fun, I went in there and did my thing. Big, bad, powerful monster. Khaos with the power. It’s reminiscent of Ali/Frazier. Ali/Foreman type,” Brown said. “All weekend, I’d been listening to Ali talk, watching the buildup to that fight. So in my mind, I went in there and said ‘ox vs. matador’. He was the ox, I was the matador. That was the mindset. Be light, be a butterfly, float. Do what I do.”

Brown went on to clarify that he wasn’t trying to copy Ali, and instead simply paid homage to his accomplishments.

“I wasn’t trying to emulate Muhammad Ali at all. I just took inspiration from the quotes and the things that he said, the fact that he was going up against a big bruiser or a puncher. Similar to the opponent I went up against. If you watch my career and watch my game, I’m from a boxing background. I try to be as slick as possible.”

Brown appears to be hitting his stride after an up-and-down start to his UFC tenure. He earned a shot in the UFC after impressing UFC President Dana White following a win over Robert Plotkin to retain the Ring of Combat welterweight title during the Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight show in 2015.

Ali continues to be the inspiration to many combat sports athletes in boxing and MMA, including Brown. He is arguably the greatest boxer of all time and one of the most influential athletes who transcended sports.

Randy Brown, Mike Tyson

Randy Brown reinforced the idea that words have consequences as he commented on Mike Tyson bloodying a man’s face on an airplane.

In recent times, there have been a string of physical altercations that each took place soon after the previous one. From Colby Covington allegedly getting caught blindsided by Jorge Masvidal outside of a steak restaurant in Miami to Will Smith’s infamous slap heard around the world.

Ahead of his fight with Kalinn Williams on May 7 at UFC 274, Randy Brown spoke to LowKick MMA about his upcoming fight and weighed in on one of the most talked-about news pieces of late.

Speaking about Mike Tyson’s recent violent altercation on an airplane that saw him land a flurry of punches to bloody the man’s face, Randy Brown stated how the internet has twisted the sense of reality and how things don’t work the same in real life as they do on the internet.

“What are people’s thoughts? Should charges be pressed against Mike now? No, I don’t think so,” Brown said. “I think you poke the bear, right? The guy told you to leave him alone and you can’t be playing around, you can’t do that in real life.”

After the incident, reports emerged revealing that the man who provoked Tyson appeared to be extremely intoxicated and had lawyered up due to his past of criminal activities.

Brown stated how the internet has made people comfortable disrespecting others and believing that there will be no consequences in real life for their behavior.

“The internet is the internet for a reason. Real life is real life. You can’t play those games, man,” added Brown. “I’m happy to see that. I like when those things happen because it gives people a chance to really take a step back and see where we are headed, you know what I mean?

“The internet is not real man and we gotta stop thinking because we could do all these things on the internet without consequences, that it carries over in the real life. It doesn’t.”

Randy Brown doesn’t believe that Mike Tyson should face charges

On the night of April 23, Mike Tyson boarded a flight to Florida from San Francisco International Airport around 10.30 PM PT. Sitting just behind Tyson on the flight was an intoxicated man who kept trying to provoke the retired boxing legend. Witness reports state that ‘Iron’ was getting along well with the passenger and his friends before the incident.

Tyson reprimanded the man for his troubling behavior and asked him to ‘chill out’. After multiple warnings had failed, and the man continued to harass the Hall of Famer, Tyson decided to take the matter into his own hands as he settled it with multiple blows to the man’s head.

Along with Randy Brown sharing his support for Tyson, he has also seen backing from a large chunk of the combat sports community given the circumstances. Joe Rogan believed that the man was “headbutting a beehive” and got what he deserved.

Later reports revealed the man to have a long rap sheet with criminal convictions going back to 2008, according to the state records. He had also served two terms in prison prior to the incident and has supposedly lawyered up for any repercussions following the event.

Do you agree with Randy Brown’s take on Mike Tyson’s incident? Should he be charged?

EXCLUSIVE | Randy Brown Wants People To “Keep The Same Energy Across The Board” In Colby Covington & Leon Edwards Comparison, Does Not Condone Jorge Masvidal’s Actions

Randy Brown, Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington

UFC welterweight Randy Brown believes that Colby Covington crossed a line against Jorge Masvidal, who rose to fame after catching Leon Edwards with a couple of dog shots backstage.

Ahead of UFC 274 on May 7, Randy Brown spoke to LowKick MMA about his upcoming fight with Kalinn Williams and the potential of the winner breaking into the rankings. After soundly beating Alex Oliveira via a rear-naked choke to mark his submission win in the first round, “Rude Boy” defeated Jared Gooden by unanimous decision last year.

Brown will take on “Khaos” as he hopes to “get it done” and extend his win streak to three. On being probed about a potential rematch with Vicente Luque or Belal Muhammad, both of whom he has faced in his career, Brown suggested that he needs a few more wins and is confident that he’ll see them again in the ring at some point in the future.

Talking about the reported physical altercation that took place between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, Brown explained how there is a line in promoting and clarified a tweet on the incident he had posted earlier.

“My tweet got misconstrued a little bit but that’s naturally Twitter, that’s what Twitter does,” Brown said. “For me, I just say ‘hey, I think we should kinda keep the same energy across the board no matter what the situation is if you like somebody or not like somebody.’”

Randy Brown compared Colby Covington with Leon Edwards

The star of Jorge Masvidal began to rise following an incident that happened post-fight backstage in 2019. As Masvidal was being interviewed after his knockout win over Darren Till, Edwards exchanged some words with ‘Gamebred’ that led him to walk up to Edwards and sucker punch him.

Masvidal’s stock rose sharply upwards as he was labeled to be the cool guy who handed Edwards the infamous three-piece and a soda, a euphemism for the sucker punches he landed on the Jamaican-English fighter.

Randy Brown made a very good point of keeping the same energy across the board whether you like someone or not. If it was cool when it happened to Edwards, then it should be cool that it happened to Colby Covington.

“Because when Leon (Edwards) got sucker-punched, right? It was three-piece and a soda, right?. It was cool and t-shirts were being sold and it was all funny, right?

“And then when it happens to Colby, a person that is known for crossing certain lines and known for saying you know stuff. His fans come to his aid and they’re like, ‘oh, you know, this guy, charges should be pressed against him’.”

Brown made it clear that he does not condone such behavior by Masvidal, not when it happened to Edwards, and not when it happened to Covington either.

“Listen, I don’t condone any of it, I never condoned it back when it was three-piece and a soda, right? I never condoned it then so why am I going to condone it now?”

“I’m just keeping the same energy,” Brown added. “I think it was a sucker move when Masvidal did it (to Edwards), and it’s a sucker move now.”

He also commented on the fact that social media may have given people a false sense of reality as he reinforced the idea that words do have consequences.

“But at the end of the day, you can’t go around saying what you want to say and feel like there’s no consequences. You can’t talk about street shit and cross certain lines and then when it comes back to you in the street, you’re just like ‘there’s no consequences’. That’s not the real world, that’s not how things work. We have this warped sense of reality now with the internet and stuff, that’s just not how things work.”

Do you agree with Randy Brown’s take on the matter? Will he beat ‘Khaos’ Williams this May 7?
