The Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix completed its opening round Saturday in Dallas. Strikeforce champion and tourney favorite Alistair Overeem scored a clear—if, eh, unsatisfying—unanimous decision win over Fabricio Werdum, setting up a semifinal match with Antonio Silva.

On the other side of the bracket, Josh Barnett will face Sergei Kharitonov in the next round after choking out an increasingly lackluster Brett Rogers in the second round.

With four of the world’s better heavyweights in action, it stands to reason that last night’s outcomes will shake up the world MMA rankings for this class. Did this win finally land Overeem in the top five? Does Werdum stay in the top 10? What about Barnett and Rogers?

Here’s one stab at a top 10 ranking.

On Saturday, June18, Strikeforce will continue its Heavyweight Grand Prix live from Dallas, TX.

Pride veteran Sergei Kharitonov and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva have already advanced to the next round.

Tomorrow night we will find out who their opponents will be.

Top grappler Josh Barnett will take on Chicago slugger Brett Rodgers . The main event of the night will feature a rematch between Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert Fabricio Werdum and Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem.

It’s the half-way point of the calendar year and that means the half-way point in the UFC 2011 schedule.

There have been eleven UFC events to date, and it is not slowing down as we roll into the heart of summer. Fight fans are certainly getting our fill, and we can’t complain about much in regards to the top promotion in the game, the UFC.

Top-ten lists are usually reserved for full, year-end recaps, so with that in mind I have made a top-five of UFC fights so far in 2011. I have had trouble keeping up with all of the fights in every promotion, and there have been some great local fights already that have taken place in my neighborhood—Parisyan vs Ford and Horodecki vs. Castillo, come quickly to mind.

Here we go.
