“This is it…the moment we’ve all been waiting for.”

We in the MMA World have many moments that we have been waiting for, but few moments can top the aura that will overcome the multitudes in my home turf of Dallas, Texas on Saturday night, June 18th—the night when Alistair Overeem, Fabricio “The Emelianenko Hunter” Werdum, Josh Barnett and Brett Rogers all appear on the same card.

Joining these three Grand Prix quarterfinalists and the reigning heavyweight champ are the returning Gina Carano, Chad Griggs, Jeff Monson and Daniel Cormier.

With these names comes a guarantee of excitement, but it also raises up a few questions.

I now present to you five of those questions that some of us have heading into this star-studded fight card in Dallas!

It is much less common in MMA for fighters to accrue tremendous winning streaks than it is in boxing.

That is what makes these unbeaten streaks all the more impressive.

With there being so many different styles and ways to end fights, even top fighters usually do not go on winning streaks of more than four or five in a row.

The mental toughness is takes to keep an edge over a perpetual conveyor belt of masters of different styles is mind boggling.

Just when a fighter thinks he can beat anyone in the world is when his next opponent usually finds a way to win.

Some fighters “pad” their records with mediocre fighters (“cans”), but keeping a streak alive is still a monumental task when competing against professionals.

Out of all the streaks, these are the most impressive in history.

Qualifications: Must be at least 10 victories in the streak, and since this is for “unbeaten” streaks, only an official loss ends a streak.

Current Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz has agreed to face former IBF super-middleweight champion Jeff Lacy in a boxing match sometime later this fall.

Both fighters have been going back-and-forth, giving opinions on what they think of each sport and what they are capable of doing in the other one.

Since 2006, Lacy has gone 4-4 in boxing while Diaz has gone 14-3, including a 10-fight win streak he is currently on.

The proposed bout has caused a lot of interest among fight fans, and it’s about as intriguing as when James Toney stepped into the cage to take on Hall-of-Famer Randy “The Natural” Couture at UFC 118. It’s also a much more dangerous fight for Diaz than it was for Toney.

The best mixed martial artists are all in a familiar spot at or near the top of their respective divisions.

However, as similar as the best fighters in the sport may be in terms of talent, many of their careers are currently headed in very different directions.

For example, Fedor Emelianenko, who may have been at the top of this list at this time last year, will now be fighting to remain relevant in his next bout, which will come against Dan Henderson in July.

Career paths can be changed with every appearance in this sport. In the minds of critics, a fighter is only as good as how he performed in his last fight.

With that being said, here are the top 50 fighters in the sport today and the direction in which their careers are currently trending.
