Ray Borg’s latest weight miss for the UFC’s flyweight division has seemingly forced him to move out of the division.

Borg missed weight for the fourth time in his UFC career this past weekend. He was scheduled to face Rogerio Bontorin at 125 pounds. However, Borg came in two pounds overweight, but would go on to pick up the decision victory. Now, according to one UFC rankings submitter, Erik Kowal, the UFC has requested that Borg be ineligible for the flyweight rankings, and are requesting he move up to bantamweight.

It’s interesting that Borg, who had missed weight at flyweight twice before, was allowed to return to the 125-pound division. Especially since he even missed weight in the past for a fight at bantamweight, which is 10 pounds heavier. It will be interesting to see what Borg decides to do next, especially given his history of missing weight at 135 pounds as well.

Borg was forced to forfeit 30 percent of his purse over for missing weight against Bontorin. If he wants to stop losing some of his fight purses, Borg may have to get used to bantamweight as his new home, or maybe even featherweight.

What do you think about Borg being forced to move up to bantamweight?

Ray Borg To Talk Over Flyweight Future After Missing Weight Again

UFC flyweight Ray Borg still hopes to compete at 125 pounds — it’s all about finding the right weight-cutting system.

Borg returned to the win column in his hometown after earning a dominant unanimous decision victory over Rogerio Bontorin at UFC Rio Rancho last night. However, Borg notably came in two pounds heavier than the non-title flyweight limit of 126 pounds.

It was the fourth time in his UFC career that he had missed weight, as well as the third time at flyweight. Last year, he notably claimed he would retire if he missed weight again. But this time, he felt the botched weight cut had nothing to do with discipline.

“I need to talk it over with my manager and with the UFC, but me personally, I think 125 is good for me,” Borg told reporters after the fight about his flyweight future (via MMA Junkie). “I don’t feel like it had anything to do with discipline, I’ve learned to man up to my mistakes and accept accountability.

“If there is one thing I can say is that it wasn’t discipline, not being in the right weight, it was just the system not working for me. Everything was perfect the whole week. When I spoke to you guys in the media scrum before, everything was great, weight wasn’t even high, and as soon as we started the cut – you guys saw we took the extra hour, we even asked for more time – but the weight wasn’t cooperating.

“I truly feel like it’s just finding the right system. I’ve worked with so many weight-cut gurus, weight-cut dietitians, and I’ve tried always to pick things that I like from each one and tried to squeeze it all in one weight cut. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. I think it’s just finding the right weight-cut system that’s best for my career.”

Although he had to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Bontorin as a result of missing weight, Borg can take some positives away such as winning in his hometown.

“It would obviously be way better if the weight went my way,” Borg said. “But to fight in front of my home town, a lot of people say it’s a dream to do this, it’s a dream to do that, and in high school, when I was preparing for MMA, I always told myself no matter what stage I was on, it would always be the coolest thing in the world to fight on a big stage in front of my home town. So there is no explaining how this moment feels.”

Ray Borg has once again missed weight in the flyweight division.

Borg stepped on the scale for his UFC Rio Rancho bout against Rogerio Bontorin tomorrow night, and came in heavy at 128 pounds. This is the fourth time Borg has missed weight in the UFC. Borg was given an extra hour to cut the remaining weight, but even after that, he weighed in the same. The 26-year-old took to Instagram and noted that he has been extremely disciplined throughout his camp, and even followed along with the UFC Performance Institute’s suggestions and protocols for weight cutting.

He used the extra hour to the best of his advantage, but the weight simply wouldn’t come off. As for his past vow to permanently retire from MMA if he misses weight again, Borg said that’s the last thing on his mind at the moment.

“Wish I had an excuse but I don’t, my camp knows that this is the most disciplined I have ever been during camp, weight was good all camp and all week. I stayed in contact with the crew at the UFC PI all week and followed all their protocols. The more we started cutting the less that started to come off, we were dedicated to making the weight and took the extra hour they gave us and did what we could with it.

“We asked for more time with all the intentions in the world to make the weight but unfortunately they only allowed us an hour. We still have a fight to win tomorrow and all my focus is on that, I was so confident in my ability to make weight that I even vowed to retire if I missed weight again, which is a subject that currently is not on my mind at the moment .

“I will put on a good show for my home town tomorrow night, thank you to my team for all the help along with my manager and the rest of my crew that was apart of this camp. Sorry to my opponent and his Team for the unprofessionalism and hope to put on a good show tomorrow.”

Even if he moved up in weight, Borg has missed weight for a bantamweight contest before, and missed weight in two separate flyweight contests before today. As for Borg’s scheduled opponent, Bontorin, he successfully made weight. Borg will forfeit 30 percent of his fight purse for the weight miss.

What do you think about Borg missing weight yet again? Do you think he needs to move up in weight?
