The PFL’s latest pay-per-view event takes place on Saturday night, and MMA News is here to bring you the final faceoffs from the ceremonial weigh-ins!

PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants takes place at The Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Oct. 19, where the main attraction will see former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou make his long-awaited return to mixed martial arts.

Having not competed in the cage since a victory over Ciryl Gane in January 2022 — completing a pair of boxing matches opposite Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in the period since — “The Predator” will look to make an emphatic MMA comeback at the expense of last year’s PFL heavyweight title winner, Renan Ferreira.

Setting the stage for the headliners will be another Super Fights championship clash, with reigning Bellator featherweight queen Cris Cyborg debuting in the SmartCage opposite the PFL’s first two-weight champion, Larissa Pacheco.

Elsewhere, Bellator gold will be on the line in the Middle East when middleweight champ Johnny Eblen runs it back with Fabian Edwards and the stakes will be high when the massively touted Paul Hughes gets a step up in competition against AJ McKee.

Ahead of the event, all 18 fighters successfully made weight. With that, every fight has remained intact, and all that remains on Friday is for the athletes to face off one final time at the PFL: Battle of the Giants ceremonial weigh-ins!

Check out a live stream via the official PFL YouTube channel below, commencing at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Francis Ngannou is set to make his PFL debut against Renan Ferreira on October 19, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This highly anticipated heavyweight bout will headline the PFL: Battle of the Giants event.

Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira – Odds

The betting odds for the Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira fight heavily favor Ngannou. According to the opening with the best sports betting sites with jaxon right here, Ngannou is set as a solid favorite at -298, while Ferreira is the underdog at +240.

This means that if you were to bet $100 on Ngannou, you would potentially win about $33.56 (plus your original stake), whereas a $100 bet on Ferreira could net you $240 (plus your original stake) if he wins.

This is likely due to Ngannou’s reputation as a former UFC heavyweight champion and his recent high-profile boxing matches against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, which have kept him in the spotlight despite his absence from MMA.

Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira Match Preview

The former UFC heavyweight champion is returning to MMA after a brief stint in professional boxing. Francis Nagnnou is known for his devastating knockout power. He has not competed in MMA since January 2022, when he successfully defended his UFC title against Ciryl Gane.

After leaving the UFC due to contract disputes, Ngannou ventured into boxing, facing Tyson Fury in a closely contested match and later Anthony Joshua in a bout that ended in a knockout loss.

Renan Ferreira, on the other hand, is the reigning PFL heavyweight champion. ‘Problema’ Ferreira has been active in MMA, fighting eight times since Ngannou’s last MMA bout, winning most of these by way of knockout.

He secured his position as Ngannou’s challenger by winning the 2023 PFL Championships and recently defeated Bellator champion Ryan Bader in just 21 seconds.

Both fighters have expressed respect for each other, with Ngannou acknowledging Ferreira’s unique abilities and Ferreira recognizing the significance of this fight for his career. This match is expected to end by way of knockout one way or another.

This fight marks the return to MMA for Francis Ngannou and his debut in the PFL, where he also holds a position as chairman and equity owner in PFL Africa. A victory would solidify his status as one of the world’s top heavyweights across multiple combat sports. For Ferreira, defeating a former UFC champion of Ngannou’s caliber would significantly boost his profile in the MMA world.

Francis Ngannou looks to “prove what I’m made of” in PFL Main Event against Renan Ferreira

Francis Ngannou PFL

The heavyweight king, Francis Ngannou is looking to get back in the win column in the PFL main event on October 19. After being away from MMA for so long, and suffering a recent family tragedy, earning a victory is a needed target for the Cameroonian athlete.

Francis Ngannou Discusses PFL Champion Renan Ferreira

PFL Heavyweight champion Renan Ferreira will be entering the October 19 fight with a reach and height advantage. Trained under former UFC titleholder Junior dos Santos, the Brazilian Ferreira has an impressive 85% knockout win rate. Most recently, he is just coming off of a stunning 21-second knockout against Ryan Bader.

Francis Ngannou is a former UFC heavyweight champion who walked away from the organization. Since then, he has taken on two blockbuster boxing fights against champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. The Cameroonian fighter suffered a brutal knockout loss to Joshua and then later tragically lost his son. Coming into this fight, he feels a fire burning.

During a PFL press conference hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Francis Ngannou explained:

“I think it’s going to be amazing. I wouldn’t call it a return to MMA, but it’s a big night for me to make a statement, to rediscover myself, and to prove what I’m made of. “

Let’s just say I’m going to fight strategically, you know, based on how the fight presents itself. In my career, I’ve only gone for a knockout once, and it didn’t work out for me. The other time I got a knockout in 25 seconds, it wasn’t something that was planned. So, I like to keep it authentic. I’m not planning on a 25-second finish or anything like that. I know I have 25 minutes, so I’ll lay my game plan out over those 25 minutes to win the fight.”

In an interview with Tim Wheaton of Low Kick MMA, Francis Ngannou added:

“I give credit to my hardships, my upbringing. The challenges I faced at a young age prepared me for life. Early on, I knew I was on my own and had to take care of everything myself. It was tough, but it prepared me for the future. Now, when things get tough, I know I’ll get through it. Everything in life comes and goes—nothing lasts forever. It’s about resilience. You’ve got to see beyond what’s in front of you because there’s always something better ahead.”

Tom Aspinall On Why It’s ‘Hard’ To Put Ngannou In Best Heavyweight Debate: ‘The Guy He’s Fighting…’

Tom Aspinall thinks the quality of Francis Ngannou’s PFL opposition could eliminate him from the best heavyweight discussion.

Aspinall, who captured interim UFC gold last year, is currently in pursuit of the undisputed throne formerly occupied by Ngannou. “The Predator” chose to exit the promotion at the start of 2023, and he’s since held lineal heavyweight MMA champ status.

Following his departure and subsequent signing with the PFL, Ngannou’s sights drifted to the boxing ring, where he battled Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in back-to-back blockbuster bouts.

Now, though, the Cameroonian is days away from entering the cage once again, and he still expects to do so as the world’s best heavyweight.

Aspinall has something to say about that, stating during an appearance on the debut episode of The Ariel Helwani Show on Uncrowned that the competition Ngannou will face outside the UFC could disqualify him from such a category.

Ngannou is set to headline this weekend’s PFL pay-per-view in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia opposite 2023 PFL heavyweight title winner Renan Ferreira. The Brazilian is coming off an emphatic first-round knockout of Bellator kingpin Ryan Bader.

While “Problema” is getting plenty of respect from “The Predator,” who has even branded himself the underdog, Aspinall insists that Ferreira is far from an “elite” heavyweight.

“I have a lot of respect for Francis. And I really appreciate his story. I really appreciate what he’s done in the sport,” Aspinall said. “But it’s hard to debate right now. The guy he’s fighting, he’s not elite. Do you know what I mean? And the guys he’ll be fighting in the future aren’t elite, and it’s as simple as that. These aren’t the best guys in the world.

“The guy he’s fighting fought a friend of mine, a training partner of mine, Ante Delija, last year. Ante just destroyed him within a minute or two; took him down, ground-and-pounded him, and stopped him within the first minute,” Aspinall continued. “The guy isn’t elite, his opponent. Yeah he’s big, yeah he’s powerful, yeah he can knock you out, but he’s not an elite heavyweight. I’m not disrespecting him, that’s just my honest opinion. The elite guys are not in the PFL. … It’s difficult to say he (Ngannou) is the best heavyweight in the world when he isn’t fighting elite guys.”

Regardless, Ngannou will have his sights on making a firm statement in his long-awaited return to MMA competition in order to prove that he’s not lost a step inside the cage since heading to the ring.
