Robert Whittaker is confident he will defeat Israel Adesanya at UFC 243.

The middleweight champion will fight for the first time since UFC 225 in June of 2018, while Adesanya has fought six times since February of last year. However, “The Reaper” believes “The Last Stylebender” got exposed against Kelvin Gastelum leaving the champ confident.

“If Gastelum can do that much work, I can,” Whittaker told MMA Junkie. “I like to think I’ve got a better skillset than Gastelum. I think I have a better skillset than Izzy. Let’s just see how it goes.”

Although he believes Israel Adesanya got exposed, Robert Whittaker knows he is very talented and it will be a tough fight.

“I think [Adesanya] is super deadly,” Whittaker said. “I think he’s a very talented and great fighter, but hell, I’m still up-and-coming, you know? I’m not going anywhere, anytime soon.

“Honestly, I am more excited for how I come out of this fight, for the work that I’ll put in after this fight to the fighter that I’m going to become from this fight, because every year, I’m getting better. Every year, I have harder fights, and I’ve got a lot of years left in me.”

Regardless of the outcome, all Robert Whittaker wants to do after the fight is spend time with his family.

“Obviously, I’m not looking past Israel,” Whittaker said. “He’s a very hard opponent, and honestly, it’s going to be a very hard fight, and I know this. I’ve prepared for this. But, the only sure thing that I know after this fight is that Monday I’m going to go home and see my kids. That’s it.”

In the end, Robert Whittaker is confident he will beat Israel Adesanya as he doesn’t think he will be able to withstand his pressure.

“I don’t think he’s going to be able to withstand the heat that I bring – and I’m not looking to finish him; I’m looking to drag this into a five-round war, I’m going to drag him into the trenches.

“I’m going to do what Gastelum did, but better. Let’s see if he wants to leave early.”

Robert Whittaker’s Manager Refutes Israel Adesanya’s Pay Claims

Robert Whittaker’s manager Titus Day believes Israel Adesanya is just talking sh*t when it comes to their respective pays. Robert Whittaker’s manager Titus Day believes Israel Adesanya is just talking sh*t when it comes to their respective pays.

Adesanya claimed he was the only reason UFC 243 would be taking place in Marvel Stadium this Saturday. He also added that he was being paid substantially more than Whittaker for the event despite not being the undisputed champion:

“There’s a reason why I’m getting paid more than him, substantially more than him,” Adesanya said. “There’s a reason why my stock is much higher than him.”

But according to Day, there would be no way Adesanya would even know how much Whittaker was earning. And even if what he’s saying is true, it will benefit “The Reaper” the next time his fight is negotiated:

“How would he know, for a start it’s confidential so he wouldn’t know anyway, so he’s just talking s***,” Day told AAP (via Newshub)

“If he is, good, it just makes it better for us negotiating next time. Rob gets paid a lot, he’s very happy he’s got a great deal with the UFC.”

Whittaker and Adesanya meet in a middleweight title unification clash in the main event of UFC 243 on Saturday. It is regarded as the biggest Australasian fight in combat sport history and promises to deliver fireworks.

What do you make of Adesanya’s comments? Do you still think he is earning more than Whittaker for UFC 243?

Israel Adesanya: F*ck The Belt, The Real Gold Is Beating Robert Whittaker

This weekend will be, perhaps, the biggest fight of Israel Adesanya’s combat sports career.

He’ll main event UFC 243 on pay-per-view (PPV) against Robert Whittaker, the winner taking home the undisputed 185-pound championship. However, speaking to MMA Junkie at open workouts recently, Adesanya admitted that the victory over Whittaker means more to him than the gold itself.

“Look, (expletive) the belt,” Adesanya said. “For me, the real gold is beating him because he’s a warrior, he’s got that Maori blood in him. He’s not the first Maori I fought, trust me. So Sunday, Oct. 6, if you don’t have your tickets, don’t steal, don’t do nothing crazy. Just make sure you get your tickets because trust me, we’re going to blow that place up.”

The matchup between Whittaker and Adesanya is one of the most exciting of the year. Both men are some of the most dynamic strikers under the UFC’s banner, and given the fight is taking place “down under” near where both men reside, it’s going to be an explosive environment.

What do you make of Adesanya holding a win over Whittaker in higher regard than the actual middleweight title? And who are you picking to leave Melbourne victorious?
