While Tony Ferguson was left unimpressed by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s performance at UFC 242, middleweight champion Robert Whittaker was all praise.

Nurmagomedov defended his lightweight title with a dominant outing against Dustin Poirier this past weekend as he submitted him in the third round. Many pondered afterwards if anyone would be able to defeat “The Eagle” who is now 28-0. Whittaker is one of them:

“I don’t see Khabib losing anytime soon,” Whittaker said on Grange TV (transcript via MMA Junkie). “I just can’t. He put work on Dustin (Poirier). Dustin is a great fighter. And, you know, every opponent that goes in there to fight Khabib knows what Khabib is going to do. They know. So I’m sure Dustin worked wrestling defense rigorously, like the entire camp.”

Whittaker stated before that the only way he felt Nurmagomedov could be beaten was if he was caught flush with a knockout punch. Poirier did have moments of success in the fight with an attempted guillotine while he also stunned Nurmagomedov with some strikes in the second round.

That alone impressed “The Reaper” that the champion was able to take a Poirier punch on the chin:

“Khabib is something else,” Whittaker added. “His cardio, his subtle technique, his arm endurance, his stamina, and what blew me out of the water was his chin. He copped one of Dustin’s textbook left hands on the button of his chin.”

Do you think Ferguson is the one to challenge Nurmagomedov? Or will “The Eagle” remain unbeaten?

At UFC 243, one of the most anticipated fights of the year goes down in Australia as Robert Whittaker looks to defend his title against Israel Adesanya. It will no doubt be a massive fight, and a fight many fans are looking forward to.

It is a close fight to call for many, as Adesanya has looked unbeatable in the UFC. While Whittaker is the champion for a reason. Yet, Paulo Costa, who appears to be next in line, thinks it is a much easier fight to call and that is Whittaker defending his belt.

“Robert is a more complete fighter than Israel,” Costa said to MMA Junkie. “I think Robert will still be champion. He will defeat the fake champion, Israel. I think Robert will win by judges’ decision.”

There is no question Paulo Costa and Israel Adesanya do not like each other. They have traded shots at one another on social media. The Brazilian doesn’t believe “The Last Stylebender” is a real champion and will lose his fake belt in October.

If Costa is right, he believes he will be fighting Robert Whittaker for the title next. But, he recently had surgery.

“I had surgery on the left biceps tendon,” he said. “It was an old injury. I had to fight with 50 percent of the ruptured tendon against Romero because I didn’t have time to have surgery before the fight. Now that the fight has happened, it was the ideal time to perform surgery because I will have time to recover and return 100 percent to challenge for the belt.”

In the end, Paulo Costa is rather confident he was what it takes to beat either of them and wants the Whittaker fight to happen by the end of the calendar year.

“I will be out for just three weeks and I can fight again in December,” Costa said. “I will wait to fight for the belt. This is my time. I am next.”

Do you agree with Paulo Costa’s prediction for Robert Whittaker vs. Israel Adesanya?

Colby Covington has no issues calling out anyone and everyone competing under the UFC’s banner.

“Chaos” even believes he can drop down to 155 pounds and challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov. Or, he could jump up to middleweight and fight Robert Whittaker. As he told MMA Junkie this week, Covington believes he’d walk through both of them.

“I can go down to lightweight and I can go up to middleweight,” Covington said. “I’m looking to fight Whittaker, he’s a bum. He’s got no wrestling, he’s got no heart, no cardio. Then Khabib? Come on.

“The sheep lover? He’s got nothing for me. The guy is over is Russia playing with sheep. What’s he going to do to raw American steel and twisted sex appeal? I got a lot of things in the plan.”

Khabib will defend his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 on pay-per-view (PPV) next month. The fight will take place in Abu Dhabi. As for Whittaker, he has a title defense of his own lined up. He’ll unify his title with interim champ Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 in Australia.

Covington is expected to be the next challenger for Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title. If he’s able to get past “The Nigerian Nightmare,” perhaps Covington will go after a second division title, setting up possible fights against either Khabib or Whittaker.

What do you think about Covington calling for a fight with Khabib or Whittaker?
