The UFC went back to Australia last weekend (Sat., February 10, 2018) with UFC 221 from the Perth Arena in Perth, and Yoel Romero stole the show by knocking out former champ Luke Rockhold in the third round of the main event.

It was a rough weekend for Rockhold, as he was originally set to face champion Robert Whittaker before “The Reaper” got injured, and then Romero missed weight but still won. The newly updated official UFC rankings added a bit of insult to injury for Rockhold, as he fell to No. 3 when Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza passed him to take the No. 2 spot.

The other division that saw significant movement was heavyweight, where rising prospect Curtis Blaydes moved up four spots to No. 5 for his wrestling-focused decision win over longtime veteran Mark Hunt, who fell one spot to No. 6, in the co-main event. Australian knockout artist Tai Tuivasa made his debut on the heavyweight rankings at No. 15 after a dominant stoppage of Cyril Asker in Perth.

The medical suspensions are in for last weekend’s event in Charlotte, North Carolina, and three preliminary fighters will never out indefinitely due to injuries sustained on fight night.

The North Carolina Boxing Authority says Justine Kish, Vince Pichel, and Austin Arnett will need medical clearance before returning to active competition, with Kish suffering a nasal fracture, right knee, and left shoulder injuries. Pichel is out due to his right eye and Arnett with nasal trauma.

UFC on FOX 27 featured a main event rematch between Jacare Souza and Derek Brunson, with Jacare once again scoring a first-round TKO. Brunson was suspended for 30 days due to the knockout and concussion protocol.

Randa Markos, who defeated Juliana Lima, was suspended for 180 days for left knee pain, with a recommendation for an MRI. Co-main event fighter Dennis Bermudez is also facing a 30-day suspension due to an injured right foot.

For fighters not facing an indefinite medical suspension, they can be medically cleared at any time once they are healthy to return to competition.

The UFC returns to Charlotte, North Carolina for the fourth time ever tonight (Sat. January 27, 2018) at the Spectrum Center with a great mixed martial arts (MMA) card on tap.

In the main event of the evening top-ranked middleweight Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson will go one-on-one. The co-main event will feature a featherweight bout between Dennis Bermudez and Andre Fili. Other notable fights on the card include a lightweight bout between Bobby Green and Erik Koch on the FS1 prelims, and Niko Price vs. George Sullivan at welterweight on the UFC Fight Pass Exclusive Prelims.
