Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been preparing for his new role in an upcoming movie about UFC legend Mark Kerr, and it seems that he won’t be skimping on his due diligence in training and preparation for this role.

The movie is called The Smashing Machine and will portray how Mark Kerr went on to become a two-time UFC tournament champion. The movie will surely be interesting, as Kerr lived a reportedly wild lifestyle back in the olden days of MMA, before the rules and regulations that protect fighters nowadays.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has always been known for staying in phenomenal shape but also never fails to continue to push this envelope despite aging over the years. Now, new footage has been released depicting the realistic MMA training ‘The Rock’ is undergoing in preparation for this role.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson plans to deliver fans the greatest MMA movie of all time

The dedication that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has so far shown belies a genuine interest in the sport. ‘The Rock’ has actually been a fan of the UFC and MMA for years and years. In fact, he even presented Jorge Masvidal with the ‘BMF’ title way back in 2019. What’s more, ‘The Rock’ has been a vocal supporter of the sport, and with this genuine interest, should be a perfect fit for this role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘The Rock’ is working closely with director Benny Safdie, who also worked on films such as Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems. The production company A24 will produce and finance the movie, as well as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s own company: Seven Bucks Productions, Eli Bush, David Koplan, and Safdie’s Out for the Count banner.

There is still no exact release date, but production for the movie should begin this year. The movie should paint a picture of the early days of MMA, as they were a very far cry from how things stand today. The format of the events was different, as were the rules. What’s more, fighters made even less money back than then they do now.

A Crawford vs. Canelo superfight is a no-brainer to ‘Bud,’ who shared his thoughts on Alvarez’s decision win over Munguia on Saturday night.

While many fans are calling for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to move up in weight to challenge “The Mexican Monster” David Benavidez, the most likely next opponent for Alvarez is Terence Crawford.

Crawford is set to fight Israil Madrimov at 154 pounds on August 3rd in Los Angeles. The fight has serious implications for the boxing world as it marks the first time Saudi Arabi-backed promoter Turki Alalshikh is holding an event in America. If Crawford gets past Madrimov, Alalshikh has already said he wants to set up Crawford vs. Canelo by the end of 2024.

And as we’ve learned in heavyweight boxing, these are not just empty words.

Following Canelo’s win over Jaime Munguia on Saturday night, ESPN discussed the potential superstar showdown with Crawford.

“You got two of the top fighters of this decade, not just in the past year or so,” the WBA, WBC, and WBO welterweight champion said. “You got two fighters that’s been at the top for 10 years. You got the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and you got the No. 1 money man.”

The Kingdom is offering up boxing purses big enough to knock down any obstacles in the way. Crawford seems unconcerned to move up and fight Canelo, who weighed in at 168 pounds for the Munguia bout. And Canelo has said he’s chasing purses at this point in his career, not the respect of fans who expect him to meet Benavidez at 175 pounds.

So what did Terence Crawford think of Alvarez vs. Munguia? “Bud” was initially dismissive of Canelo’s unanimous decision win, suggesting on X (formerly Twitter) that Alvarez had carried the much younger challenger (watch the highlights here). He was a bit more measured with ESPN.

“I thought it was a good fight,” Crawford said. “I thought Munguia fought hard, I just think his inexperience caught up to him and made him fall in and square up and not stepping in with his punches allowed Canelo to sit back, counter and pick his shots. Canelo was real patient.”

What do you think of a potential Crawford vs. Canelo superfight, Maniacs? Are you into it, or is Canelo picking the smaller, easier fight for more money? Let us know in the comments below!

Anthony Smith sends huge threat to Alex Pereira after UFC 301 win I'll choke him out

Following last night’s impressive first round submission win over the unbeaten, Vitor Petrino, former light heavyweight champion, Anthony Smith has vowed to grant incumbent champion, Alex Pereira a grappling match – vowing to choke out the Brazilian striker if they share the mats.

Smith, a former undisputed light heavyweight title challenger under the promotion’s banner, managed to retain his status as the number 10 rank in the division overnight – handing the above-mentioned, Petrino his first professional loss in a stunning first round win.

Struggling with the surging prospect’s striking on the feet, Smith somehow managed to force a grappling exchange during an ill-fated takedown attempt from Petrino, and despite finding himself slammed to his back, wrapped up a quickfire first round guillotine choke win.

And revealing earlier this week how his pursuit of an Octagon title had encompassed his life, Smith vowed to honor Pereira’s bet of a $50,000 wager in a potential future grappling matchup.

“What did he (Alex Pereira) say? Alex Pereira said he would put up $50,000, and I start off his back.” Anthony Smith told assembled media after his UFC 301 win. “So, I start off on his back, hooks in, and I’ve got 5 minutes to finish him, and he wants to put $50,000 on it. I’ll take his $50,00. I’ll take his money – if I start off on his back, I’ll choke the sh*t out of him.”

As for Pereira, the former duel-weight champion headlined UFC 300 last month, turning in his first successful defense of the light heavyweight title, courtesy of a first round knockout win over former champion, Jamahal Hill.

And weighing up a title fight rematch with another ex-titleholder, Jiri Prochazka in the immediate future, Pereira was also himself floated as a potential suitor to the heavyweight throne, by current division kingpin, Jon Jones.
