The UFC women’s bantamweight division has always been exciting at the top end. Since 2012, when Ronda Rousey officially joined the UFC from the Strikeforce merger, to present date, there’s never a dull moment. Part of the reason was always involving Rousey, her heated rivalries and brash trash talk. When it came to fight night ‘Rowdy’ was beginning to set records for fastest title fight finishes, dominating the contenders in short order and demanding massive media attention in doing so.

The problem came when facing Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015. At the time Rousey had six straight title defenses under her belt, the last four had lasted a total of 2m12s, and she was gaining worldwide notoriety, not just in the realm of mixed martial arts. Once that second round head kick from ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ connected, the house of cards began to fall. Spiralling in to depression and becoming a recluse until emerging earlier this year, Rousey had clearly been altered immeasurably by her brutal knockout loss.

Suddenly the field of play was wide open again, and Miesha Tate would step in to take advantage. Facing Holm at UFC 195, the two-time opponent of Rousey finally put her hands on UFC gold with a stunning fifth round finish. As Holm slept from the rear naked choke, the rivalry with Rousey was instantly reignited and Tate wasted no time in calling out the absent women’s MMA pioneer. The problem was that ‘Rowdy’ really didn’t seem interested, as roles in Hollywood movies and acting classes were keeping her away from the octagon.

Rousey had submitted Tate in Strikeforce to take the bantamweight strap, then again at UFC 168 while fending her off for the UFC belt. Now, finally in a position to enact her vengeance, and Rousey is nowhere to be found. During a recent segment called ‘The Exchange,’ Miesha Tate further comments on the case of Ronda Rousey, saying she feels the drive to fight is just not there anymore for the ex-champion. As transcribed by FOX Sports.

“I would expect things like, you know, ‘I need to get right back in there, I’ve got to prove this, I’m going to go on another title run.’ Those are not things that I’ve been hearing from Ronda. Where is her heart really laying,”

“I know that when I’ve gone through the toughest of tough times – I’ve been head kicked and knocked out, before. I’ve lost to Ronda, twice, [and] that was the most devastating thing that could have ever happened to me inside my career. But, here I am. I’ve made myself better for it. I’ve made myself stronger.”

“I don’t recognize that in Ronda,”

“I don’t recognize the same desire, the same drive, the same passion, the same willingness to overcome that kind of adversity. I don’t see that in her.”

Former UFC bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is without question one of the sport’s biggest stars despite falling on rough times recently.

The “Rowdy” one has been out of action since surrendering her title in brutal fashion to Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193 from Melbourne, Australia.

Aside from her loss, Rousey led a very successful event at UFC 193 which took place at the massive 50,000 plus seat Etihad Stadium. The show was monumental to say the least, but that doesn’t mean that every Australian was too fond of the action.

In fact, one certain Australian reporter had some very harsh comments regarding the card, bashing not only Rousey, but the ‘bloodbath’ that is the UFC as well.

Check out what Susie O’Brien of Melbourne’s Herald Sun had to say below:

“Ronda, we don’t need to encourage people to pay good money to watch you get battered into oblivion, or to watch you do the same to your opponent.

My colleague, Ron Reed, who went to the Holm v Rousey fight last year, said the crowd was roaring things like “cut off his f—— head” and “I want to see blood”.

I don’t think UFC is entertainment and it shouldn’t be served up as such in any Australian city. It’s nothing more than a dangerous form of sadistic voyeurism that feeds off the injuries sustained by others.

This is not sport. It’s a bloodbath that glorifies violence.”

Well, O’Brien sure wasn’t holding back with those statements.

As for Rousey, the ex-champion has yet to return since being knocked out by Holm, but there have been rumors of her making her highly-anticipated comeback at November 12’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

What do you make of these comments regarding Rousey and the sport as a whole?

Has Ronda Rousey’s boxing improved?

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey may not have fought since her crushing knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, but that’s not kept her out of the headlines. ‘Rowdy’ went in to hiding for months following her beating at the hands and feet of ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ later revealing she’d considered suicide, the only thing that stopped her was her partner Travis Browne’s support. Her sensational re-entry to the mainstream media in the form of interviews with the likes of Ellen DeGeneres was met with a number of obvious questions.

An emotional Ronda Rousey revealed how hard the loss to Holly Holm had actually hit her…

The main one being thrown around was about whether or not the formerly unstoppable champion would ever seek to win her belt back. Initially ‘Rowdy’ was evasive when asked, even refusing to answer any questions about fighting in general at one stage, but the MMA world was still obsessed with Rousey’s comeback. Then came the news of her new movie deals, and it seemed as though her fighting career may be a thing of the past.

Rousey S1

A nude and body painted photoshoot with Sports Illustrated saw Ronda Rousey seemingly back in good spirits, but answered little about her urge to enter the arena of combat again. The announcement of her three movie deal with Lifetime cast massive doubt over her pugilistic future, and could we really blame her after the way the mixed martial arts community reacted to her harrowing loss?

After being listed in Time Magazine’s top 10 most influential sports personalities, another very revealing video of Rousey emerged. This time she declared her motivation for coming back and winning the belt once again, and blasted those who had been so abusive since her first professional defeat.

Just yesterday a new video of Ronda Rousey training her boxing skills emerged, and it has everyone going nuts over her potential return all over again…

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has faced the hardest few months of her life this year, following her devastating loss to Holly Holm. Before facing ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ at UFC 193, ‘Rowdy’ was one of the most dominant athletes on the planet. Her every word was headline making news, and she became a sensation with her dominant performances and raw attitude outside the octagon. Then came that fateful night against the massive underdog Holm in Melbourne. Some 56,000 fans packed out the Etihad Stadium to watch the November 13 pay-per-view, which did not fail to deliver.

Rousey

Holm ended the one sided and shocking beating on Rousey with this well timed head kick in round two, and from that moment on it’s been chaos in the life of the former champion. In the midst of rampant criticism and, for lack of a better word, hatred from fans the world over, ‘Rowdy’ went in to hiding following her first loss. Now six months removed from Rousey’s brutal KO, her comeback is imminent. UFC president Dana White recently confirmed she’ll be facing whomever is champion when she climbs back in to the octagon, just showing how much clout she carries still.

Another example of her sway is Ronda Rousey’s placement in Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People. She was included in the sports section with names like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Usain Bolt, quite the honor for a mixed martial artist to make that list of just ten sports personalities.

During her interview with Time Magazine, Rousey gave off a very different aura than we’ve ever seen. Check out the transcript and the video is on the next page.

“I used to get out of bed with the conviction that I’d be better tan I was yesterday, now these days I guess it’s hope that gets me out bed. I have this wall in my house, with all the good things on there, like these letters from little girls. All the positive stuff from people who say I’m helping them, and that helps me. I have thousands of people trying to tell me the worst things they can think to say.

“Everyday, all these people constantly trying to reach me and tell me these negative things. People like to see people rise, and they like to see them fall too because it makes them feel we are human like they are. Those aren’t my friends cheering for me out there, I’m their entertainment….

It looks like someone wanted to make Ronda Rousey appear a little bit thinner than she actually is, and the former bantamweight champion is not happy about it…

Ex-UFC women’s bantaweight queen Ronda Rousey has always been an advocate for pride in a woman’s own appearance. In numerous interviews ‘Rowdy’ has spoke of her own body image issues, that haven’t been aided by bullies and insensitive comments, even as recently as her spot in the Carl’s Jr. commercials. In a world where body image has become a distorted yet still highly impressionable issue among the youth it’s somewhat disheartening to hear Rousey has been subject to some air brushing.

That said, it was apparently not under the orders of ‘Rowdy’ herself, and she is rather unhappy about the fact it took place. The photoshop subject was an image of Rousey’s recent appearance in the Conan show, as she explains the story via her Instagram account. Check it out:

In a world as shallow and body conscious as ours, it is refreshing to have someone like Ronda Rousey around. As much grief as she takes from fans and media, she seems like quite an honest and straight forward person.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans waiting for former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s return will unfortunately have to wait even longer.

After the previously dominant champ was knocked by Holly Holm at UFC 193, the general consensus was that “Rowdy” would return at the UFC’s July blockbuster UFC 200 to rematch Holm in an attempt to get her belt back. But when her featured role in the upcoming remake of “Road House” got in the way, Rousey’s comeback was delayed until late this year, and not many argued with that given the destructive nature of her loss.

That return has been pushed back even further, however, as Rousey revealed on a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon (via FOX Sports) that “Road House’s” filming has been delayed further, which in turn will delay her availability to fight. Rousey said that the film will “hopefully” now start filming this May, adding that she made a commitment to the project and will follow through on her word:

“Hopefully we’ll start around May. We’ll see. I promised that I would film “Road House” after the last fight,” Rousey said. “I made a promise and that’s it. My word means something so I’m going to go film “Road House” first.”

ronda-rousey

It’s clear that Rousey’s film career is burgeoning, with this role and the opcoming “Mile 22” with Mark Wahlberg in addition to her coined catchphrase “Do Nothing B*****s” with Tina Fey on the docket this year. Dana White has said that Rousey will most likely return around November, but if “Road House” doesn’t start filming until May or beyond, that would leave hardly enough of a timeframe to prepare for the toughest challenge of her career against the ultra-dangerous champ Holm.

Still, with Rousey declaring that she considered suicide in the aftermath of her knockout loss to “The Preacher’s Daughter,” perhaps some more time off is what’s best for Rousey, who is obviously still MMA’s biggest star.

However, her recent emotional statement coupled with her return being pushed back further and further is certainly cause for wonder and speculation to her ability to win back the belt, if she returns to fighting at all. Rousey assured fans that she would, however:

“Of course (there will be a rematch).”
