Scott Coker is willing to give Dillon Danis the opportunity but he is not sure if he wants it.

Bellator president Coker signed Danis after the latter gained notoriety for his work in jiu-jitsu tournaments and became a training partner and grappling coach of Conor McGregor. Since bringing him to Bellator, Coker has managed to only book Danis twice. With zero outings since 2019, Coker doubts whether Danis will ever return.

Bellator president Scott Coker is willing to give the opportunity but doubts Dillon Danis will take it

During the post-fight press conference for Bellator 285 in Dublin, Coker shared his thoughts on signing Dillon Danis.

“Dillon is a kid we had a lot of high hopes for,” said Coker (ht MMA Fighting).

Danis arrived as a highly promising talent that could have a strong future in MMA given his affiliation with ‘The Notorious.’ However, a string of injuries saw him kept on the sidelines. Danis regularly made headlines over the past few years, but instead of the attention being for his fighting abilities, it was instead for his public disputes with fellow athletes or icons of the game.

Coker praised Danis’ jiu-jitsu abilities and extended an offer if he’s serious

Danis is a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu professional with appearances in numerous high-level competitions. As many fans as he may have, Danis also has plenty of haters who are not too appreciative of his antics, including former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

Coker is willing to give Danis another opportunity but only if he is serious about taking it.

“He’s super-talented, jiu-jitsu fighter, but he’s got to stay active, and he’s got to want to come back,” Coker said. “He calls me, he wants to come back, and then sometimes, I don’t hear from him for months. If he’s really serious about coming back, we’ll definitely have a spot for him, and we’ll definitely make an opportunity for him.”

Coker recently shared that his team was interested in bringing the Stockton-based superstar to Bellator and that they were in communication with Diaz to make it happen.

Renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani had tweeted about an exclusive negotiation period that was on Diaz’s contract, giving UFC the sole right to make any offers, making it illegal for Bellator to enter into any such discussions.

At the Bellator 285 post-event news conference, Scott Coker clarified his earlier comments and updated that Bellator contacted Diaz’s management team. He revealed that no further developments could happen until December.

“Well, here’s the thing, is that my guys reached out to the management and the management came back and said, ‘Look, he still has an exclusive negotiation period,’” Coker told reporters at the Bellator 285 post-event news conference. “So, let’s see how that plays out.” (ht MMA Junkie)

Coker wants to bring Diaz to Bellator

As one of the biggest names in the sport, Diaz is a highly-sought after fighter. Coker expressed his interest in wanting to sign Diaz to Bellator earlier this week.

“Well, we are definitely talking to him,” Coker said. “We’ve reached out and I know he’s probably talking to everybody. He’s, I think, in a pretty good situation. I know he wants to fight Jake Paul. Jake Paul’s fighting, you know, against Anderson Silva on Showtime pay-per-view, which is our home network, so there’s some synergies here.”

Headlining UFC 279 earlier this month against former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz weathered an early storm of offense from the Oxnard native en route to an eventual fourth round guillotine win.

The victory came as Diaz’s first since August 2019, where he snapped a three-year hiatus from the sport with an impressive unanimous decision win over former undisputed WEC and UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis.
