In the co-main event of UFC 310, Shavkat Rakhmonov defeated Ian Garry to earn his biggest win to date via unanimous decision.

The two undefeated contenders fought an incredibly tactical contest. In multiple rounds, there was very little to separate them.

Throughout the early frames, in particular, the number one contender was able to stay just in front of the Irishman by being more active and landing the more impactful strikes. Though he wasn’t able to threaten with his grappling, “Nomad” did use it effectively to take away the movement and speed of his opponent.

Garry was able to pick things up at points, especially in the fifth round, which was his best of the fight. After taking Rakhmonov’s back, “The Future” searched for the rear-naked choke but, despite several attempts, he wasn’t able to get fully under the neck.

In his post-fight interview, Rakhmonov was joined in the cage by welterweight champ Belal Muhammad, whom he was set to fight at this event until the titleholder withdrew due to an injury. They shared a respectful exchange, during which “Remember the Name” congratulated Rakhmonov.

Fans and fighters reacted on social media as the Kazakh star moved to 19-0 and, for the first time in his career, got his hand raised via the scorecards.

Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry - UFC 310 Highlights

Shavkat Rakhmonov outworked Ian Machado Garry throughout their five-round co-main event at UFC 310, scoring a unanimous decision victory and moving to 19-0 in his mixed martial arts career.

Much of the first round was spent clinch-fighting along the cage — most of which was initiated by Rakhmonov. With 30 seconds to go, the fighters finally separated and Rakhmonov popped Garry’s head back with a big right hand. Rakhmonov immediately re-initiated the clinch and maintained his hold on Garry until the end of the round.

The second round saw both fighters open up a little more with their striking, the advantage clearly going to Rakhmonov who landed a couple of solid jabs and a right hand that clipped the Irishman while he was circling away from the fence. Rakhmonov tried to follow it up with a left that prompted Garry to clinch up and put Rakhmonov’s back against the fence.

Rakhmonov reverses the position and once again fails to get Garry to the mat. Rakhmonov ultimately relinquishes the hold and returns to the center of the cage where they exchange a few blows before heading to their respective corners.

Garry undoubtedly had his best round in the third, opening up more with the kicks and catching Rakhmonov with some slick jabs, but it was ‘Nomad’ who made the biggest statement in the round with a booming right hand right before the horn.

With Garry starting to get off on his feet, Rakhmonov switches things up and attacks Garry’s legs, landing the first takedown of the fight in round four. Garry scrambled his way out of the position, but instead of disengaging, he tried to grapple with Rakhmonov and ultimately gave up his back against the fence. Still, Garry was able to fend off Rakhmonov, but that only encouraged ‘Nomad’ to shoot in and land another double-leg takedown, putting him in a dominant position to end the penultimate round.

With Garry likely behind on the scorecards and in need of a finish, ‘The Future’ came out swinging, but that opened him up for another takedown attempt. Rakhmonov shot in and looked to land a single leg, but Garry defended and ended up taking Rakhmonov’s back. With a body triangle locked in, Garry fought hard to land a rear-naked choke. Rakhmonov kept his chin down and fought the hands before reversing the position and getting on top of Garry.

Garry wall-walked his way back up, but Rakhmonov maintained control against the cage and essentially rode out the remainder of the fight in the clinch.

UFC 310 takes place on Saturday night, and MMA News is here to bring you the final faceoffs from the ceremonial weigh-ins!

The upcoming pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada provides a chance for UFC Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja to record his third successful title defense.

After capturing the gold in July 2023 in a barnburner with Brandon Moreno, “The Cannibal” is next tasked with stalling promotional newcomer Kai Asakura’s ambitions of an immediate ascent to the 125-pound mountaintop.

The stakes will also be high in the co-main event, which will see top welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov look to defend his status as next in line for a shot at Belal Muhammad’s gold by blemishing the perfect record of fellow undefeated rising star Ian Garry.

Elsewhere on the UFC 310 card, ex-interim heavyweight champ Ciryl Gane runs it back with in-form Russian Alexander Volkov, light heavyweight veterans Dominick Reyes and Anthony Smith collide, and an important clash at 145 pounds goes down between Movsar Evloev and Aljamain Sterling.

Ahead of the event, 27 of the 28 fighters successfully made weight, with Bryan Battle’s four-pound miss of the welterweight limit marking the sole indiscretion on the scale. Nevertheless, every fight is intact, and all that remains on Friday is for the athletes to face off one final time at the UFC 310 ceremonial weigh-ins!

Why Laura Sanko Is Enamored with Shavkat Rakhmonov "Primal ... Chills"

UFC commentator Laura Sanko recently explained her unyielding support for the Kazakh Shavkat Rakhmonov. ‘The Nomad’ Rakhmonov will be competing in a title eliminator at UFC 310 on December 7.

Laura Sanko Enamored with Shavkat Rakhmonov

Former MMA fighter Laura Sanko has long kept an eye on Shavkat Rakhmonov throughout his rise in the UFC. Recently she collaborated with Rakhmonov on a T-shirt where the proceeds will be donated to a charity in Kazakhstan.

The undefeated welterweight sensation from Kazakhstan, Shavkat Rakhmonov is known for his brutal fighting style and silent demeanor.

Laura Sanko shared her deep admiration for Shavkat Rakhmonov, describing him as a fighter who elicits a sense of primal excitement. “There’s something about the way he fights, the way he operates,” Sanko said. “It gives me chills. He’s like something special.” For Sanko, Rakhmonov’s fight style is just one part of what makes him so compelling. “He doesn’t talk, and he doesn’t speak a lick of English,” she continued. “There’s a mystery there, and it’s just really cool … He does give me chills. There’s something very primal about the way Shavkat fights. It’s not just technique—it’s his presence, his intensity.”

The Nomad

Hailing from the nomadic tribes of the Mongolian steppe, he represents a lifestyle and culture that is largely unfamiliar to many in the Western world. Sanko revealed that she had delved into reading about the nomadic life of the Mongolian tribes. “It’s a lifestyle so different from what we’re used to,” Sanko explained. “They live in yurts, constantly moving because they’re herding animals. It’s fascinating.”

“In a completely platonic way, I’m just enamored by him—by his fighting, by his culture. I just got caught up in it. But it all comes back to this: I felt like I knew before most people around here did, anyway.

“Don’t be surprised if he shows up with a falcon on his arm and hunts a rabbit for you.”

Sanko recognized Rakhmonov’s talent early. “I felt like I knew about him before anyone else,” Sanko said. “Back when he was still fighting in M-1, I thought, ‘This guy is going to be a star.’” Now, with an undefeated record and rising recognition, Rakhmonov is steadily becoming one of the most talked-about names in the sport.

Next, Shavkat Rakhmonov will face fellow undefeated welterweight Ian Machado Garry on December 7 live at UFC 310 and the winner will face Belal Muhammad for the UFC welterweight world title.
