Conor McGregor's return has already generated 'Way Over' $20 million, becoming biggest gate in UFC history

Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon is still several weeks away, but that isn’t stopping the Irishman from breaking more revenue records.

On Saturday, June 29th, McGregor will compete for the first time in nearly three years when he meets former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler in the UFC 303 headliner. Emanating from T-Mobile Arena during International Fight Week, the event is expected to be a massive money-maker for the promotion.

Speaking at the UFC St. Louis post-fight press event, CEO Dana White confirmed that the gate for McGregor’s return is already “way over” $20 million, making it their highest gate of all time.

“It’s already way over $20 million,” White confirmed.

Conor McGregor is already responsible for three of the four highest gates in UFC history, the biggest being his November 2016 clash with then-lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. That event generated $17.7 million.

With UFC 300 bringing in $16.5 million at the gate and a reported million-plus pay-per-view buys, 2024 will undoubtedly be another banner year for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Maybe they’ll finally share some of that wealth with it’s fighters. … But probably not.

Conor McGregor has kept busy during his three-year-long layoff

McGregor’s quote-unquote “greatest comeback in combat sports history” comes 35 months removed from a devastating leg break suffered in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Though he has been out of action, ‘Mystic Mac’ has kept himself busy.

Aside from selling his popular brand of Irish whiskey, Proper No. 12, for a whopping $600 million, he also made his big screen debut in a remake of the 1989 action classic Road House for Amazon Studios.

McGregor also made headlines last month when he announced that he had become a part owner of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship during the promotion’s fourth-annual KnuckleMania event in California.

So you want to be a fighter?

Mateusz Rebecki suffered his first UFC loss last night (Sat., May. 11, 2024) at UFC St. Louis when Diego Ferreira absolutely battered him from inside Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Check out the finish below:

Hours after his TKO loss, Rebecki shared a picture of his busted-up face from the local hospital. UFC officials confirmed to MMAMania.com that he was transported to the hospital for a precautionary CT scan of his head and face.

Check out the Polish fighter’s face below:

Rebecki (19-2) had his 16-fight winning streak snapped at UFC St. Louis and was finished for only the second time in his professional career. “Rebeasti” is now 3-1 in the UFC.

Ferreira (19-5) is now riding a two-fight winning streak, both of which were brutal finishes, after going on his dreaded three-fight losing streak. The 39-year-old received a Performance of the Night bonus for his brutal TKO.

Rebecki was also the biggest betting favorite on the card … hopefully, he wasn’t in your parlay.

Derrick Lewis delivered the goods last night (Sat., May 11, 2024) at UFC St. Louis live on ESPN from inside Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, as “Black Beast” put a vicious stop to Rodrigo Nascimento in the main event. The UFC’s all-time leader in knockouts battered Nascimento in the third round before claiming his finish, removing his shorts, throwing his cup into media row, and mooning the crowd (see it all HERE).

In addition to the heavyweight headliner, UFC St. Louis produced a collection of high-level knockouts and submissions. Check them out below and let us know which ones stood out the most:

  • Esteban Ribovics turned in one of the best knockouts of the year with a 37-second head kick stoppage over Terrance McKinney.
  • Lightweight youngster Chase Hooper looked as good as ever with a dominant second-round submission over Viacheslav Borshchev (watch HERE)
  • Welterweight upstarts Trey Waters and Billy Goff lit the “Prelims” card up with a good old fashioned slugfest, but it was Waters who edged out the win
  • Carlos Diego Ferreira turned back the clock for a massive upset TKO win over streaking lightweight Mateusz Rebecki
  • Surging light heavyweight finisher Carlos Ulberg punched his ticket to the top 15 and extended his current win streak to six with a 12-second TKO over Alonzo Menifield

To sift through the action and see which fighters took home an extra $50,000, we take a closer look at the official UFC St. Louis post-fight bonus winners below:

Joaquin Buckley calls out Conor McGregor following Fourth-Straight win at UFC St. Louis: 'Come at me, bro!'

Joaquin Buckley had a big-name callout following his big win at UFC St. Louis on Saturday night.

Still fresh from his second-round TKO victory over Vicente Luque in March, ‘New Mansa’ stepped inside the Octagon to deliver another spectacular showing in front of his hometown crow. Buckley did exactly that, dominating the significantly taller Nursulton Ruziboev in an entertaining three-round scrap during the evening’s co-main event.

Joaquin Buckley

After securing a decisive unanimous decision victory, Buckley used his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping to call out Irish megastar Conor McGregor, challenging the former two-division champion to step up and take on a real welterweight rather than a “midget lightweight” like Michael Chandler.

“Who do I want next? He’s got a fight already booked up, but it’s a massive name. There’s only one name you should call out. A powerful name. That name is Conor McGregor. I want you. You fighting at 170, but you ain’t fighting a welterweight. You fighting a lightweight midget. Come at me, bro. You said you built your weight up, but you’re bullying Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia. Come and bully me and let’s see what you’re really about.

“I did research on the McGregor name and you come from a long line of McHos! Your daddy was a ho. Your grand daddy was a ho. Your great great grand pappy was a ho, so I guess it’s safe to say your momma raised a ho! And if you don’t respond, the whole world will know I’m telling the truth.”

Don’t count on Seeing Joaquin Buckley vs. conor mcGregor anytime soon… Or ever

Sitting at No. 11 in the welterweight rankings, Joaquin Buckley has now won four straight and is 9-4 under the UFC banner.

Joaquin Buckley

‘New Mansa’ will likely look to break into the top ten in his next outing, but we wouldn’t recommend anyone hold their breath when it comes to a fight with Conor McGregor.

Of course, ‘Mystic Mac’ already has a date with former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler. Nearly 18 months after their fight was first announced, the two high-octane superstars will square off in the UFC 303 headliner on June 29, closing out this year’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas with a bang.

Derrick Lewis nearly disrobed after securing a third-round knockout win over Rodrigo Nascimento last night (Sat., May 11, 2024) at UFC St. Louis live on ESPN from inside Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Luckily, “Black Beast” only took off his shorts and cup before mooning the crowd.

Lewis was the betting favorite entering this fight, but it was still a dangerous matchup. Nascimento proved to be good in the early going in the clinch and when he was able to take Lewis down and gain top control, but “Black Beast” kept fighting. Lewis even mixed in some of his own takedown attempts when he wasn’t trying to take Nascimento’s head off on the feet.

In the third round, Lewis took over. He was able to land a huge right hand that caught Nascimento on the head. He wobbled to the canvas and “Black Beast” charged on top for heavy punches. Nascimento didn’t last long before Lewis was teeing off at will. The referee probably should have stopped it sooner than he did, but it was still a tremendous TKO performance for Lewis.

After his knockout, “Black Beast” decided to take his shorts off (again) and fan off Nascimento as officials tended to him inside the cage. A few moments later, Lewis removed his cup and tossed it into media row. Finally, he nearly took his shorts off in the middle of the Octagon, but only made it half way as he mooned the first few rows of fans.

Former heavyweight championship challenger, Derrick Lewis is back to the winner’s enclosure with his fifteenth knockout victory inside the Octagon — landing a third round knockout win over Brazilian grappler, Rodrigo Nascimento in the main event of tonight’s UFC Fight Night St. Louis card.

Lewis, a former interim and undisputed heavyweight title challenger under the banner of the organization, made his return tonight atop the promotion’s comeback to Missouri, turning in a fifteenth promotional knockout win in his fight with Nascimento.

Battling through some gruelling grappling and wrestling defense in the opening and second rounds, Lewis, the promotion’s most prolific knockout artist, added to his record-held tally in the opening minute of the first round — courtesy of a clubbing right hand, clipping Nascimento.

Following up a with a slew of ground strikes, Lewis forced the third round stoppage, with referee, Jason Herzog calling a halt to proceedings.

And once more taking off his shorts, and ditching his protective cup to the media row in St. Louis — Lewis then flirted with taking off his boxer shorts, before deciding to just moon the crowd instead.
