Dana White and Tito Ortiz have words, yet again: here.
UFC 132 goes down in Vegas this Saturday, which means, the most gorgeous women will be walking the streets of Las Vegas Blvd… Careful, these women definitely want your money. No hot chick is just.
UFC 132 goes down in Vegas this Saturday, which means, the most gorgeous women will be walking the streets of Las Vegas Blvd… Careful, these women definitely want your money. No hot chick is just gonna strike up a conversation with you at the circle bar in the middle of the casino because she actually likes you. Look at you. No.
But put away your wallet because Arianny Celeste and Kenda Perez will also be in town, and they will talk to you for free, mainly because someone else is paying them to do so, but why get caught up in logistics? Arianny Celeste will be at the LV Fight Shop this Thursday from 6pm to 8pm along with Natalie Skyy. Remember Natalie Skyy? Your forgettable favorite underdog MMA Ring Girl nominee from last year’s World MMA Awards??? Then on Friday after UFC 132 weigh-ins, you can find the lovely host of Spike TV‘s Best of Pride Fighting Championships show, Kenda Perez at Cadillac Ranch.
So take advantage of getting all your Maxim and Playboy back issues signed and maybe hold that handshake just a few seconds longer while gazing into their eyes, since this is the closest you will ever get to either of these ladies. Trust us, the security at UFC events, much like a ring girl’s body, is tight.
Still can’t touch those clowns on the networks, though…
The ratings reports are in, and it’s interesting (if you’re into numbers, equations, audience measurement, and assorted MMA nerditry). We’re not particularly mathletic, so bear with us here…
UFC on Versus 4 drew 744,000 households, according to MMAWeekly, which is up slightly from the last Versus show (681,000) headlined by Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann.

To recap: UFC broadcasts on the Versus network draw inconsistent ratings, and there’s no clear relationship between the fighters on the card and the level of interest from viewers.
You ready for this? The Spike rebroadcast pulled 793,000 viewers, which (according to some quick math on this Taco Bell wrapper) is greater than (>) the 744,000 reported for a live event that hadn’t already happened. Even figuring in that Spike is in more homes (about 99 million) than Versus (75 million), that’s just wacky.
Lesson learned: when you have an established audience, identity, and timeslot, you’re halfway home. A network can air a year-old fight card and still get eyeballs and advertisers as long as people expect that network to have the programming. Meanwhile, out in the cable hinterlands, you can put on a live event with a fair amount of drama and still only draw even with your new BFF’s ex.
Ok, sorry for all the words and numbers. As a consolation, here’s a picture of the human soul. It’s the luminous body you see flying out of Pat Barry’s head when Kongo decked him into a short time traveling session. Props to Ms Tracy Lee for catching this rarely-seen phenomenon.
Spike TV announced today a 10-hour marathon on Sunday, June 26th, featuring fight cards with UFC middleweight turned welterweight Nate Marquardt. SB Nation reached out to Spike TV officials for further comment. Specifically, we asked why they would run this marathon to overlap with the UFC’s live show on Versus and why these particular fights of all Marquardt’s UFC fights were selected. “We picked a 10 hour marathon of exciting, hard-hitting , action-packed fights showcasing not only Nate ‘The Great’ – but some of the sport’s biggest names including Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen,” said David Schwarz, Vice President of Communications at Spike TV.
The ‘UFC Live’ shows on Versus — headlined twice by Jon Jones, and once by Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann — have seen a steady decline in ratings since their debut. Marquardt vs. Story probably isn’t going to bring viewers out in droves on a Sunday night, and Spike’s upcoming Marquardt-athon could cause just enough confusion to push the Versus audience even lower.
It’s not exactly a move you pull when negotiations are still ongoing; Dana White may have told Spike to go fuck themselves one too many times. The weird part is, there’s little incentive for Spike here except the joy in knowing they screwed with somebody they don’t like. That’s how bad things have gotten, I guess. As they say: Live by the counter-programming, die by the counter-programming.
UFC finally adding Flyweight Divison, signing 125-pounders: here. Spike TV confirms TUF 14 to start with 32 fighters elimated down to 14 and no wild card picks: here. UFC 135 will be headlined by Jon.
(“…and how much for you to convince Olivia Munn to come back?”)
According to a report by Bloomberg, several analysts are pegging the prospective UFC-G4 deal between $360 and $600 million US, depending on how much of the company Zuffa wants to buy.
Both David Joyce of Miller Tabak & Co and David Bank, an analyst with RBC Capital Markets peg the value of the deal as high as $600 million if the UFC purchases the network outright. Insiders say that the promotion is looking to purchase at least a 60% controlling interest in the struggling network, which would cost them an equal percentage of the purchase cost.

How the value is determined for a channel is a formula that multiplies the amount of homes the network reaches by a value-per-home figure depending on ratings. Joyce said that figure likely sits between $5 and $10 for the Comcast-owned station that reaches an estimated 60 million homes. More popular channels like Spike TV, whose agreement with the UFC ends late this year, could fetch as much as $20 per household. There are rumors that the UFC are asking Spike for $325 million for them to re-sign with the network they helped put on the map, but it’s unlikely they’ll cough up such a large sum, so they have set the wheels in motion to bring Bellator over from their sister station, MTV2 to fill the void.
NBC Universal spokeswoman Amelia Stewart and UFC PR rep Caren Bell both refused to comment on the prospective deal.
