Anderson Silva: I Have No Respect for ‘Papa Smurf’ Floyd Mayweather

Looks like former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a bone to pick with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Check out what the pound-for-pound great had to say about “Money” during an interview with Sway Calloway on Sway in the Morning (YouTube channel Sway’s Universe)

Boxers have the great story. I respect for boxing. Floyd Mayweather? I don’t know this guy. Is he Papa Smurf? Mayweather is good boxing. This is my opinion. The guy no respect me. I respect all the guys in the world. Mayweather is a part of this story in the world. I’m part of the sport in the world. Mayweather need to respect this, but this guy no respect nothing. Sorry, but I no respect Mayweather.

The latest news should come as no surprise, considering Mayweather said he didn’t know who “The Spider” is in an interview with EsNews last month.

Despite a disappointing knockout loss at the hands of new 185-pound kingpin Chris Weidman at UFC 162 last month, many still consider the Brazilian knockout artist the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

Prior to the loss, Silva had won an incredible 17 straight bouts, 16 of which occurred inside the Octagon, also setting the UFC middleweight record of 10 consecutive successful title defenses.

While naysayers have knocked the 38-year-old’s strength of competition during that roughly seven-year time frame, Silva notched stoppage wins over the likes of Rich Franklin (twice), Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen (twice), Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort.

Silva will have a chance to avenge the devastating loss to “The All-American” at UFC 168, with the rematch set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 28.

Conversely, the 36-year-old Mayweather has been going strong inside the ring since October of 1996 and is a five-division world champion with an incredible 44-0 professional record.

His next challenge will be light middleweight stud Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who boasts a 42-0-1 record of his own despite being just 23 years old.

Alvarez’s WBC and The Ring light middleweight titles will be on the line, while Mayweather will defend his WBA (super) light middleweight strap.

That showdown also takes place at the MGM Grand and is just a couple weeks away, with the event set for Sept. 14.

Jon Jones on Daniel Cormier: “Short Reach, Bad Cardio” and “Not Relevant to Me”

It looks like UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones isn’t even a little intrigued about a possible showdown with Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier

When MMA Junkie asked the champ what he thought about “DC’s” plans to drop down to 205 pounds and call for a title shot if he beats Roy Nelson at UFC 166 this fall, Jones went off on the undefeated prospect.

DC is a guy who really wants to be famous. I don’t think he wants to work hard. I think he just wants to be famous. You can see it in his physique; you can see it in his card… He’s trying to get his Twitter followers up, that’s about it… I hate answering questions about him. He’s just not relevant to me. There’s so many great fighters in the light heavyweight division. He’s not even top five in his division. I’m not sure if he is… He has short reach, bad cardio (and) he looked terrible in his last fight. It’s like, I’m not worried about him at all.

Cormier made his Octagon debut at UFC on FOX 7 in April, winning a clear-cut, albeit heavily criticized, unanimous decision victory over former UFC heavyweight titleholder Frank Mir

With the win, the former Olympic-level wrestler improved his professional mixed martial arts record to a perfect 12-0.

Furthermore, according to the UFC’s official rankings, Cormier is the No. 2 heavyweight fighter in the world, behind only upcoming title challenger Junior dos Santos and current champion Cain Velasquez, a friend and teammate of Cormier

Velasquez and Cormier have stated on various occasions that they would never fight each other, which is why the Strikeforce import has been entertaining a light heavyweight title run since early this year.

UFC President Dana White has been non-committal about a potential Jones-Cormier title fight, recently telling Ariel Helwani that he wants to wait and see the outcomes of Cormier vs. Nelson and Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson, the headlining bout of UFC 165 this September (via MMA Fighting).

As it looks now, Jones has no interest in a potential showdown with Cormier anytime soon. Would this still be a matchup the fans are interested in seeing?

Ronda Rousey Makes September Cover of Maxim Magazine, Poses Topless

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, the cover athlete of ESPN The Magazine’s 2012 Body Issue, has once again posed for some risque photos that will appear in a major publication.

“Rowdy” graces the cover of the September issue of Maxim wearing a bikini and even less in some topless shots from the pictorial.

The photos come courtesy of Stephan Wurth for Maxim, with Cage Potato providing scans of some of the most enticing poses from the poster girl of women’s MMA

After a 6-0 run inside the Strikeforce cage, Rousey made her UFC debut at UFC 157 in February, defeating a game challenger in Liz Carmouche with her signature armbar

The former Olympic-level Judoka, who captured a bronze medal in 2008, recently wrapped up filming for season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, coaching opposite rival Miesha Tate in the first season to feature both male and female competitors.

Tate and Rousey first squared off in March of last year, with Rousey surviving an early barrage before eventually forcing “Cupcake” to tap to a gruesome armbar that dislocated her elbow.

Rousey captured the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight championship with the victory.

Coincidentally, Tate posed in the 2013 edition of ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue, which hit shelves earlier this month.

Tate fought Cat Zingano in a title eliminator bout at the TUF Season 17 Finale in April, controlling the first two rounds before getting TKO’ed by a surging Zingano in Round 3. However, according to MMA Fighting, Tate was less than thrilled with the stoppage.

Fate would work in Tate’s favor, though, as Zingano suffered a knee injury, per Yahoo! Sports, shortly before TUF 18 filming began, so Tate was more than happy to fill the void.

Rousey vs. Tate II serves as the co-main event of UFC 168, which takes place on December 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Ronda Rousey Fan Tattoo Will Haunt Your Dreams and Feed on Your Soul

If you wondered whether Ronda Rousey was a bona fide A-list sports star, wonder no longer, because she now lives on in the form of a fan’s ill-advised tattoo.

Guyism spotted a positively creepy homage to the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, originally posted on MMA News’ Facebook page.

If you don’t care whether you have a good night’s sleep or not, take a gander at the masterpiece below.

Guyism claims that this is some random fan’s arm, but it looks to be a very pale leg. Not that any of that matters, because the important thing to take away from this is that someone actually thought it was a good idea.

Rousey, a beautiful woman and a remarkable fighter, is depicted as a quasi Garbage Pail Kid who has a Shannen Doherty thing going on with her eyes. It has to be pretty creepy to know someone adores you so much that he would go to such extremes to decorate (or mutilate) his body like this.

If Rousey does catch wind of this tat, she should know it just means she has hit the big time. Every great athlete can look forward to a fan—or a few—getting permanent ink in his or her honor.

DailyPix reminds us that things could be worse, because you could have a Shaquille O’Neal Kazaam tattoo on your body.

Or you could have expounded on your love for all things Manning with this tattoo of the brothers enjoying a round of noogies, via Planet Radio.

One of my personal favorites is the Bubba Watson tattoo that has the golfer looking like a Mad Magazine caricature, via Golf WRX.

Some fans are content to buy a replica jersey or a poster featuring their favorite athlete. For the far more motivated, that won’t do.

No, sometimes you just have to sit back and get a painfully awkward tattoo for the world to enjoy. A round of applause and tip of the hat to all you sports fans who can’t help but lose your collective minds, because we certainly enjoy your ink.

Tim Kennedy Confirms Fight with Vitor Belfort in Brazil

On July 26, fight fans were informed that a matchup between perennial middleweight contender, Vitor Belfort, and two-time Strikeforce title challenger, Tim Kennedy, was in the works for an upcoming card in Brazil, as reported by MMA Fighting.

Shortly after Ariel Helwani’s interview with UFC President Dana White was posted online, Kennedy indicated that the fight was a done deal, though he did not name what event the bout was scheduled for.

Kennedy made his UFC debut at UFC 162 earlier this month, winning a clear-cut, albeit fairly uneventful, unanimous decision over highly regarded Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Roger Gracie.

While the United States Army Sergeant First Class has never been ranked in the middleweight division’s top 10 up to this point in his career, he was won eight of his past 10 bouts and hasn’t lost a non-title fight since December 2007.

Ever since losing to then-champion Anderson Silva at UFC 126 in February 2011, Belfort has scored three vicious knockouts at middleweight, also submitting Anthony Johnson at a catchweight and losing a light heavyweight title bid against Jon Jones.

“The Phenom” has been campaigning for another crack at middleweight gold since minutes after Silva lost the strap to Chris Weidman at UFC 162, texting White 172 times at the post-fight press conference pleading for a title shot, per MMA Fighting.

While Belfort has undeniably looked impressive recently, boasting back-to-back head-kick knockouts over Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold, the UFC opted to book Weidman vs. Silva II for UFC 168.

Since that rematch doesn’t take place until December 28, it became apparent that Belfort was going to have to go through at least one more opponent before he earned a championship fight.

Former Strikeforce titleholder Gegard Mousasi had repeatedly asked for a fight with Belfort at UFC 168, but the UFC has obviously decided to go in a different direction.

Will Kennedy shock the world and end the Brazilian knockout specialist’s time as a title contender, or will Belfort score another highlight-reel worthy KO en route to a championship bout?
