The news that Michael Bisping and Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller would be the coaches of season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter broke late last month and by now almost everyone in the MMA community has offered their opinion on the two coaches.
The Las Vegas Review Journal announced that the UFC will not waste any time jumping into the season as production on the show will begin this week, just days after the finale for season 13 took place.
Along with the announcement that production will begin, comes the first volley of trash talk from Miller.
“I feel great getting the TUF spot,” Miller told Heavy.com. “It’s a little early to start the smack talk but I’m going to beat the bangers and mash out of Bisping after my team smashes his team.
“Now that Osama is dead, Bisping is the most hated man in America. Everybody hates that guy. I wonder what it’s like to actually be hated that much.”
Accordog to MMAJunkie.com, Miller and Bisping will meet on Dec. 3 on the finale card for season 14 of TUF.
Many have opined that Miller earned the coaching slot on the show, not through his MMA skill set or his ranking in the middleweight division, but through his personality and his ability to bring in ratings via his personality as well as his not-always-gentle trash talk.
Two of the people who share that opinion are Chael Sonnen and Bisping himself.
Sonnen offered the following on twitter in regard to Miller’s coaching stint:
“Comment on Mayhem how? In terms of his coaching contract, or generally not being worth the gas that brings his $.50 hair dye from China?
“I buy a couple on ‘The Bachelor’ before I buy Miller as a Coach. Ten bucks says that he brings Bisping a rose on the season finale.”
While Bisping had the following to say about Miller, “I’ve had the dubious pleasure of meeting him,” Bisping told ESPN. “He’s not a bad character, but I’m sure six weeks around the guy is going to be a pain in the backside.”
Whether Miller deserves the position as coach of TUF or not is irrelevant at this point, the job is his and he plans on keeping things interesting,
“I’m going to make an entertaining show for the fans because that’s what I’m all about,” Miller told Heavy.com. “It’s not enough to just to go out there and fight; you have to fight and then put on the biggest show.
“Now I’m on the greatest show on earth, so I’m going to keep this circus rolling.”

At “The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale” on Saturday evening in Las Vegas, Clay Guida outwrestled the flashy Anthony Pettis in taking a unanimous decision victory over the last WEC lightweight champion.
It was by far the biggest win of Guida’s career and immediately launched him into the upper echelon of the UFC’s stacked lightweight division.
In wake of the win, Guida told Joe Rogan he was ready for a title shot. Although Pettis was promised a shot at the 155-pound title by UFC president Dana White had he emerged from this fight victorious, the same pledge was never made to Guida.
Those who believe Guida deserves a title shot point to his recent four-fight win streak. They forget just who he has fought during those four victories.
Shannon Gugerty? A guy who has a sub-.500 record (2-3) in the UFC, and someone who only diehard fans have heard of. Yes, Guida did win the “Submission of the Night” award for his arm-triangle victory, but Gugerty is nothing special.
Rafael Dos Anjos? Another guy with a .500 record in the UFC (3-3). Although Guida looked fantastic in breaking Dos Anjos’ jaw in this fight, it’s not like the Brazilian is one of the best in the division.
Takanori Gomi? Aside from delivering a flash knockout to Tyson Griffin last summer, Gomi has looked nothing like the fighter who ran through PRIDE in his other octagon battles, losing by submission to Guida and Kenny Florian.
Don’t forget that before this recent streak Guida lost two fights in a row, a barn-burner to Diego Sanchez and a choke-out loss to the aforementioned Florian.
Even with his victory last night, Guida still only holds a 9-5 record in the UFC. And although his move to Greg Jackson’s camp has clearly rejuvenated his career, one cannot forget his overall body of work in the Octagon when considering how worthy he is of a title shot.
Guida is definitely an exciting fighter. He pushes an unrelenting pace through his fights, has some of the best cardio in the sport, sports a cast-iron chin, and has a likeable and unique personality. He’s fun to watch and root for.
To fight for the UFC gold, however, requires a sustained body of excellence, and Guida hasn’t demonstrated this just yet. If four wins in the span of a year earns one a title shot, like proponents of Guida believe, then what about Melvin Guillard?
Like Guida, Guillard has won four in a row and like Guida, Guillard’s fights are exciting to watch. He has also been in the UFC for what seems like forever, and even has a similar UFC record to Guida at 10-4. But you don’t hear fans clamoring for Guillard’s title shot.
Of course, there’s Jim Miller, he sports a 9-1 record inside the UFC including a current seven-fight win streak. It just doesn’t make sense for Guida to get a crack at the gold before Miller, especially considering Miller’s only two career losses have come at the hands of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, the top two guys in the division.
The easiest thing to do is to pull Miller from his fight with Ben Henderson and set up a No. 1 contender showdown between he and Guida. Both of these guys are on the cusp of stardom but really need a victory over a consensus top-10 lightweight to firmly entrench their place in the division.
With Edgar and Maynard hopefully culminating their trilogy in the fall, the timing is right to hold a late-summer/fall tilt between Miller and Guida to determine who gets the next crack at the belt. The winner of that fight would without question be deserving of fighting for UFC gold.
Defeating Pettis is no doubt a massive feather in Guida’s cap. But it’s not enough for him to get a title shot, at least not just yet.

Another Ultimate Fighter has come and gone, with the win going to team Lesnar via Tony Ferguson’s first round KO of team Dos Santos’s Ramsey Nijem.
Hopefully, Ferguson, and maybe Nijem, will be able to give Georges St-Pierre some competition in the future.
Not to take from Ferguson’s moment, which was very well deserved, but it is time to look ahead. The call has already gone out for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, which has made full use of the media hype surrounding Zuffa’s buyout of the WEC. For the next season, Bantamweights and Featherweights, or just one of the two, will duke it out for the chance of being crowned TUF 14 winner.
There are often problems with trying to hype a fight between the lower weights. Due to their natural size, many lack the power to KO an opponent, which means a bigger emphasis on wrestling and Jiu Jitsu.
That’s not a problem if they are constantly transitioning from position to position. A technical battle for control can be just as exciting as two guys standing up and trading. The problem is not many people appreciate the ground aspect of MMA.
So, how do you get around people’s conceptions?
Enter Michael Bisping and Jason “mayhem” Miller.
I will admit now, I am a huge fan of both. Bisping, for the fact that he is a fellow Brit and Miller for his never-say-die craziness that he brings to each and every one of his fights.
For a reality show, as TUF falls into, you could not have two better coaches. Bisping is an outspoken individual who knows how to hype a fight and Miller gets a fight going just by putting his name on the card.
Both have had checkered pasts over the year. Bisping recently won everyone’s hatred for giving Jorge Rivera an illegal knee prior to ending the fight via TKO in the second round. To add insult to injury, he spat at Rivera’s corner and refused any attempt at conciliation by Rivera.
Mayhem dominated headlines due to his involvement in the “Strikeforce: Nashville Brawl,” where he asked Shields for a rematch before being blindsided by the Diaz brothers, who both refused to face him afterward.
They are also both very outspoken. Bisping is eager to call out his opponent on any given occasion, whilst Miller clowns around, sure in his ability to end any fight.
All in all, Dana White has created a masterpiece compared to TUF 13. He has signed two coaches who will train their fighters well, whilst still taking part in some lighthearted/serious banter, as opposed to the “fiasco” of TUF 13 where the coaches (shock, horror) focused on training their fighters and avoiding any serious confrontations that could have hyped their now non-existent fight, due to Brock Lesnar’s most recent bout with diverticulitis.
It stands to reason that this season of TUF could imitate “TUF: UK vs USA” in terms of the coaches, with Bisping always eager to carry on the Anglo-American hostilities that exist in combat sports, leading to a finale built upon the coaches potential animosity towards each other and a meeting that could turn sour.
Congratulations to Ferguson, now bring on Bisping vs Miller!
Once their coaching duties are completed on the next season The Ultimate Fighter, Michael Bisping and Jason Miller will square off at show’s finale on December 3, FightersOnly.co.uk reports. It was confirmed last week that the two middlew…
It was confirmed last week that the two middleweights will serve as coaches, when it was also learned that Chael Sonnen would not be participating on the reality show after his license was suspended by both the California and Nevada Athletic State Commissions.
FightersOnly also reports that Bisping will travel to Las Vegas to begin filming for the new season, which will commence this month. The Englishman previously served as a coach on season 9 of TUF, where he stood opposite of Dan Henderson. The two coaches would later meet at UFC 100, where Bisping suffered a knockout loss to the American.
Miller, who was acquired by the UFC earlier this year, will make his debut as a coach. The former Strikeforce competitor was recently bought out of his contract and returns to the UFC after leaving in 2005. The last time fans had a glimpse of Miller, he lost to UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 52.
Surely, the winner of this upcoming bout will be in contention for a middleweight title shot.

LAS VEGAS – The UFC made its coaches for Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter” official on Friday. And after UFC 130, it was revealed they’ll fight each other on the reality series’ live finale card and not on a pay-per-view, as has become customary.
UFC president Dana White said after the post-fight press conference that Michael Bisping and Jason “Mayhem” Miller will headline the TUF 14 Finale, which is likely to take place in early December.
“What we’re going to do this season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ is, the coaches will fight on the finale,” White said. “It’s what we were planning on doing anyway. We’ve done it before.”
White said the decision was made for just the upcoming season of TUF and wouldn’t necessarily apply to future seasons. For instance, if future coaches were going to fight for a title, it likely would not take place on a TUF Finale show. After Season 4 of the reality series, coaches BJ Penn and Jens Pulver fought on the finale.
White said the process of selecting the next coaches had plenty of bumps in the road, not the least of which was Chael Sonnen’s current suspension by the California State Athletic Commission. Sonnen was rumored to coach against Bisping on the show, which will feature bantamweights and featherweights and will begin taping this summer.
“When we go through the process of making coaches, there are all these different guys we look at,” White said. “People were talking about some of the lighter weight champions (as coaches), but a lot of things play factor in what happens – the Chael Sonnen incident, fights, schedules, injuries.
In the end, he settled on Bisping, who coached on Season 9 against Dan Henderson, and Miller, who signed with the UFC after leaving Strikeforce earlier this spring. Miller, the host of the “Bully Beatdown” program on MTV, is a famous talker – plenty outlandish and brash. But White said it wasn’t just about making good television with wars of words between coaches.
“There’s more that goes into it than just, ‘Are these guys going to act goofy and talk to each other?'” White said. “I’m not really into the coaches acting goofy. It’s going to happen with the (contestants) anyway.”
Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” with coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos, finishes its broadcast run on Wednesday with the semifinals. On Saturday, the live finale takes place at The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas. Lesnar and dos Santos were scheduled to headline UFC 131 on June 11, but Lesnar had to pull out with a relapse of diverticulitis. He had surgery to remove a portion of his colon on Friday, though doctors say he may be back fighting by January.
