Hot off the heels of a clinic of a victory over Thomas Almeida at UFC 260, Sean O’Malley already has his sights set on a new matchup.

Even as the dust was settling following the third round TKO, former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz was already texting Chael Sonnen about how he’d like to face ‘Suga’ Sean next. Cruz is coming off a decision win over another rising prospect in Casey Kenny.

On the Pat McAfee Show, O’Malley was asked who he’d be interested in fighting next. The ever vocal American stated the following:

“The second after you fight the question is, who’s next? I heard Dominick Cruz texted Chael Sonnen saying he wanted that fight. So, I don’t know if Chael got a prank text for a fake Dom or if that’s real. That’s a potential matchup.

“I know Dustin Poirier tweeted the other day, July 10, so I think I’m a pretty good co-main event type dude,” O’Malley continued. “Dustin vs. Conor, Suga vs. Dominick, I don’t know, that makes sense, that might be it. July, we’ll see. I definitely want to get in there a couple more times this year” (Transcribed via BJPenn.com).

The fight would seem to be mutually beneficial for both fighters. O’Malley would get the opportunity to test himself against a true veteran of the 135lb division. Whilst Cruz would be able to catapult himself back into the limelight with a win against such an exciting prospect.

The placement of the fight would also seem to make perfect sense. McGregor PPV cards do not typically feature co-main title fights, so Conor does not have to split the PPV buys. However, a fight like O’Malley vs Cruz would no doubt only serve to bolster the hype of the card, without impacting McGregor’s payout.

Polarizing UFC bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley is back in the winner’s enclosure, via a spectacular ground strike knockout win over gritty Brazilian Muay Thai ace, Thomas Almeida in the third round of their UFC 260 main card matchup.

Poised from round one to three, the Montana native rattled Almeida with a quite frankly massive left high-kick, with the Sao Paulo native somehow surviving the scare, as O’Malley made the mistake of attempting a walk-off finish — with referee Marc Smith urging him to keep fighting.

Eating his fair share of leg kicks in the second round, O’Malley countered Almeida well once more in the second, before landing the fight ending shot in the third and final frame.

Clipping an imcoming Almeida with a left hand, the Brazilian fell to his back on the canvas, before O’Malley sprang with a massive ground strike, knocking the Brazilian out cold to score his return to winning-ways.

LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC 260: Miocic vs. Ngannou II results throughout the afternoon (Sat. 27th. March 2021) from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Taking main event honours in the promotion’s return to a pay-per-view schedule, a massive heavyweight championship rematch between the consensus greatest heavyweight of all time, as Stipe Miocic looks to defend his championship against 2018 foe, the devasatating puncher, Francis Ngannou.

Hoping to improve to 2-0 over the Cameroonian challenger, Miocic took home a dominant unanimous decision victory over Ngannou at UFC 220 back in January of 2018, handing Ngannou his first promotional defeat.

In the time since, Miocic featured in a trilogy against two-weight champion, Daniel Cormier, with the former taking bragging-rights last August at UFC 252, taking a unanimous judging win over Cormier, ending the tie with a 2-1 record.

Following a consecutive defeat to Derrick Lewis in arguably the most forgettable matchup the division has ever seen, the Xtreme Couture trainee has returned to the top of the heavyweight pile, with a quartet of opening minute knockout victories over Curtis Bladyes, Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, and last May — stopped Jairzinho Rozenstruik in just twenty-seconds.

Featuring in a promoted co-main event, former welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley returns, attempting to snap a three-fight slide as he matches against the gritty #10 ranked, Vicente Luque.

Dropping a trio of defeats to Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, and Colby Covington, Woodley’s most recent victory came back in September of 2018, stopping Darren Till with a second round D’Arce to score his third and final welterweight title defence.

For New Jersey born finisher, Luque, he’s rebounded from a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Stephen Thompson back in November of 2019, to lodge two massive knockout wins over both Niko Price, and Randy Brown in May and August of last year, respectively.

The Sugar Show has been renewed for another season. Striking star Sean O’Malley is ready to bounce back against the once prominent prospect, Thomas Almeida at UFC 260 on March 27.

O’Malley would go on to his YouTube channel to release the breaking news.

O’Malley (12-1) is coming off his first and only professional loss to Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC 252 last August. He was chopped down with leg kicks which led to a TKO stoppage for Vera. O’Malley believes he is mentally undefeated in his career despite the official verdict.

“Sugar” originally asked to fight Raoni Barcelos at UFC 256 last December. However, just as the team sent out the request it was revealed that Barcelos had just been booked against Merab Dvalishvili. Team Sugar was relieved that bout didn’t go through as O’Malley was still adjusting to having become a new father to his newborn child. He would later campaign for a return at UFC 258, which did not come into fruition. Suga Sean’s newest episode will air on March’s second Pay-Per-View at UFC 260.

On the other side of the cage, we have Thomas Almeida. Almeida came into the UFC in 2015 as a very promising 18-0 Bantamweight prospect, finishing all of his fights except for one. The surging Brazilian would continue to cruise against the competition, finishing 3 out of 4 opponents under the UFC banner.

The 2015 Breakout Star of the Year would go on to have his name in the marquee with his first UFC main event coming against another rising, undefeated star in Cody Garbrandt. When the lights shined the brightest, Almeida would be blinded by Garbrandt’s fierce power in no more than a round, suffering his first loss at the hands of the future Bantamweight king.

“Thominhas” would eventually boomerang back into the win column with a KO win of his own, against Albert Morales.

A year after experiencing his first KO loss to Garbrandt. The young prospect’s chin would once again be put up to the test when he faced off against top contender Jimmie Rivera and rising star Rob Font. Almeida would be dropped multiple times by these upstarts, falling short each time.

Almeida would once again taste defeat after being outpointed by Jonathan Martinez late last year. The former 22-0 star looks to put another diminished stamp on O’Malley record, giving him the second loss of his career.

Do you think Sean O’Malley will get back to winning ways at UFC 260?

Sean O’Malley Claims Thomas Almeida Refused To Fight Him At UFC 258

Sean O’Malley is still looking for an opponent for UFC 258 after Thomas Almedia has turned down the chance to fight him on February 13.

The popular bantamweight prospect took to social media to confirm the date of his return in November but stopped short of announcing an opponent for his eagerly anticipated comeback. According to O’Malley, Almedia was supposed to be his opponent for UFC 258 but the Brazilian has now passed up the chance.

“I just got done training in my own garage, in my own cage this morning. It was fun,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “I was supposed to be fighting February 13 against da-da-da. I didn’t say it because I didn’t know. But I got offered Thomas Almeida. He said my left hand was to powerful. Or no, he said my right hand was to powerful or something along those lines of Covid or something.”

O’Malley insisted that Almeida was always supposed to be his UFC 258 opponent and he didn’t announce it because it wasn’t official. Now he and his team are on the lookout for another bantamweight willing to take the fight.

“So he turned the fight down. A good decision on his part as it would have been a nasty KO. So we are still looking. But that’s who I was planning on fighting. I never announced it because obviously it was never official. And it is not official, and it’s not going to be official. So that fight is not happening. Still looking. I plan on fighting in February.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

O’Malley is coming off the first loss of professional career. ‘Suga’ made a considerable step up to face Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 252 in August. On the night, things went horribly wrong for the highly touted prospect who suffered a first-round TKO loss. A few minutes into the fight O’Malley was caught with a leg kick to his right leg. From then on he dealt with some real notable difficulties laterally moving around the Octagon and shifting his weight. Following an engagement before the culmination of the round, O’Malley fell to the canvas. Assuming stacked guard, Vera unleashed a left hook, followed by a massive elbow – with referee Herb Dean separating the two.

Almedia returned from more than two years out of the Octagon to face Jonathan Martinez at UFC Fight Island 6. He was easily outpointed by his opponent over three rounds in what proved to be his third consecutive loss. Almedia was once highly touted but now has four defeats from his last five fights and is without a win since 2016.
