Tito Ortiz is just days away from making his highly-anticipated walk to the ring to fight Anderson Silva, but he has quite the fight on the scales leading up to the fight this weekend. Ortiz will be making his professional boxing debut after a long career in MMA which included a reign at the UFC light heavyweight champion.

Ortiz and Silva will battle in the ring at a catchweight of 195 pounds, despite Ortiz fighting a majority of his career at 205 pounds and Silva having a brief run at light heavyweight in the UFC. Despite his protests regarding the weight details, Ortiz agreed to the bout at Silva’s desired weight.

Ortiz will need to cut a substantial amount of weight to be able to fight against Silva at 195 pounds, as he detailed during a recent social media post.

“I gotta get down to 195. I’m probably in the 212 department, 211lbs, around that,” Ortiz said. “Feel great, though. Had a good day working with Jason Parillo and Jay Silva. We did some light sparring. I hope [Silva] is ready for a fight. I’m not coming there to collect a paycheck. I’m coming there to collect a win, get a W, take some names, kick some ass.”

Ortiz seems confident in being able to compete at a high level in his first appearance in the boxing ring, but he’ll more than likely need a brutal weight cut beforehand. After a brief run competing in Bellator, Ortiz retired from the sport before coming out of retirement to face Alberto El Patron at Combate Americas 51.

This will be Silva’s second boxing fight in 2021, after beating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. earlier this year by split decision. He made the full-time transition to boxing after recently struggling in the UFC middleweight division.

It’ll be fascinating to watch how Ortiz is able to combat the challenges of weight cutting, especially during this latter stage of his athletic career.

What are your thoughts on Tito Ortiz’s expected brutal weight cut?

Tito Ortiz has confirmed he is done with politics.

In June, the former UFC light-heavyweight champion announced his resignation from his position as Huntington Beach Mayor Pro Tem.

The abrupt end to Ortiz’s short-lived political career has allowed him to get back to fighting. He’ll square off against Anderson Silva in a boxing match scheduled for September 11.

During the Triller press conference to announce his fight with ‘The Spider’, Ortiz explained why his political career is over.

“That part of my life ended,” Ortiz said “I got a taste of how dirty that stuff is and I just tried to help my city.

“At the end of the day, with what our country’s going through right now, people say don’t talk about politics but the future of my children is my No. 1 [priority]. That’s all I tried to do was help here in Huntington Beach and I couldn’t let it happen.”

Ortiz explained that the constant attacks on his character combined with the fact he only made $1,200 per month for the role led to his resignation.

“I got attacked non-stop, every single week, it was either in the news or the newspaper,” Ortiz said. “When they started attacking my character, assassinating my character, that’s when I knew I needed to walk away. I was making $1,200 a month to sit there and make decisions for the city.

“It wasn’t worth my time and I apologize for all the people who did vote for me. I had almost 45,000 people who voted for me, the most in Huntington Beach history but once again I’m an honest man trying to do an honest job and politics, you can’t be an honest man and do those things. Cause when you keep your word, other people don’t like that.”

Now that his political career is over, Ortiz is glad to get back to fighting.

“When you’re not a part of the agenda, you get cancelled out and is what it is. It’s behind me now,” Ortiz said. “Once again, I’m just thankful for Triller giving me this opportunity to let me showcase my skills as the athlete I truly am.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Tito Ortiz lost respect for Anderson Silva during negotiations for their boxing match.

It was recently revealed that Ortiz and Silva would box on the undercard of the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Vitor Belfort event promoted by Triller taking place September 11.

It notably comes a few months after Silva returned to boxing when he outpointed Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in impressive fashion.

This latest bout will take place at 195 pounds. Silva usually competed at 185 pounds in the UFC and has fought at 205 before. Ortiz, meanwhile, hasn’t competed professionally below 205 pounds.

That is why he lost respect for Silva for making the him cut down to that weight for their upcoming contest.

“I’m excited. I’ve been boxing almost my whole career, but now it’s an opportunity that I don’t have to worry about wrestling or Brazilian jiu-jitsu,” Ortiz told TMZ (via BJ Penn). “I don’t need to worry about knees or kicks. Now I get to focus strictly on boxing. I’m excited. I’m thankful to Triller for giving me this opportunity. I’m thankful to Anderson for finally taking the fight. There was a little negotiating on his part. I had a lot of respect for Anderson. But to do what he did for the contract, I lost respect for him, man.

“He wants me down to 195lbs. He’s fought at 205lbs six times in his career. He wants me down to 195lbs so it shows that he’s afraid of my power. People don’t realize that I’m a pretty decent puncher and I’ve gotten better over the last six years. I’ve gotten really good over the last 34 years.”

Ortiz even revealed the last time he weighed 195 pounds was when he was in college wrestling. That said, it’s providing plenty of motivation for him.

“The last time I was 195lbs was I think my sophomore year in college wrestling,” Ortiz said. “I’ll make (the weight). I’ll try. I’ll cut off my leg to make the weight. I’ll try. I’ve never missed weight in my whole career, but Anderson kind of pushed the limit of doing that.

“But once again, I lost respect for the guy, man. He’s one of the best mixed martial artists but I lost respect for him. So it gives me a little more energy, a little more aggressiveness during camp to punch this guy’s face off.”
