Although it wasn’t the most hyped UFC pay-per-view (PPV) of the year, last night’s (Sat., October 7, 2017) UFC 216 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, delivered a little bit of everything for mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, and thankfully, most of it was extremely exciting.

Tony Ferguson weathered a powerful assault from rising contender Kevin Lee to submit ‘The Motown Phenom’ and win the interim lightweight title in the main event, while dominant flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson broke Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive title defenses when he tapped out Ray Borg with an insane suplex-to-armbar submission the likes of which we’ve truly never seen.

The card also featured back-and-forth wars and more submissions like Fabricio Werdum’s textbook 65-second armbar of short-notice replacement Walt Harris.

The event provided the MMA world with a lot to digest, so join the fighters for their reactions at the UFC 216 post-fight press conference streaming live right now:

Tony Ferguson Calls Out Conor McGregor With Expletive-Filled Tirade

It wasn’t without a ton of adversity, but Tony Ferguson finally won the interim UFC lightweight championship by submitting rising young contender Kevin Lee with a third-round triangle choke in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., October 7, 2017) UFC 216 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After the much bigger Lee was repeatedly able to use his smothering wrestling to ground Ferguson in the early rounds, ‘The Motown Phenom’ began to tire just a little after a brutal and draining weight cut, and that gave ‘El Cucuy’ a window of opportunity to capitalize with his ultra-dangerous bottom game on the mat.

The definitive win put Ferguson’s win streak at an unprecedented 10 straight, and he understandably called out UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor in his post-fight interview with commentator Joe Rogan:

Ferguson was expectedly unhappy with McGregor’s inactivity as champion after he took the entire year off from MMA to fight Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring. So he voiced his opinion on the subject with a blunt and to-the-point callout:

“Where you at, McNuggets, you fuckin’ piece of shit? I’m gonna kick your ass. You better fuckin’ come and defend that belt. Defend or vacate, motherfucker!”

Ferguson is certainly doing his part to get his massive fight with McGregor.

Many hardcore fans believe McGregor should finally defend a UFC belt, which he has not done since winning the featherweight title from Jose Aldo in December 2015 and the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 last November.

The bout with Ferguson is a clear booking, but in today’s ‘money fight’-focused UFC landscape, McGregor’s oft-discussed trilogy bout with Nate Diaz could easily surpass Ferguson chance to unify the titles.

Which fight do you think should take place first?

After initially missing weight at the last minute during his first try for his interim UFC lightweight title fight with Tony Ferguson at tomorrow’s (Sat., October 7, 2017) UFC 216, title contender Kevin Lee has made weight on his second attempt to make the title fight limit of 155 pounds.

Lee came in at 154.5 pounds on his second attempt after doctors approved him to cut only one pound in an hour after he came in at 156 pounds on his first attempt.

After a long, trash talk-filled buildup where Lee became one of MMA’s most promising up-and-coming stars (although not quite a star yet), the UFC nearly saw another high-profile fight fall apart after Ferguson’s previously scheduled interim lightweight title fight versus Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209 fell apart when ‘The Eagle’ didn’t even show up for weigh-ins.

They avoided that disaster today, however, and “the Motown Phenom’s” fight with Ferguson will proceed as planned despite Lee appearing extremely gaunt and drawn during his first and second weigh-in attempt.

Never a dull moment in today’s topsy-turvy UFC landscape, folks.

In a sad twist of events that has already plagued the UFC during their down year of 2017, Kevin Lee has missed weight for his interim lightweight title fight in the main event of tomorrow’s (Sat., October 7, 2017) UFC 216 from Las Vegas.

After a drama-filled two hours of early weigh-ins, Lee finally showed up to step onto the scale at the extreme last minute, looking extremely dehydrated as he used a towel to weigh in at 156 pounds, one pound over the lightweight championship limit of 155 pounds.

Lee will have one hour to lose the additional pound according to NSAC executive director Bob Bennett:

“According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission rules, any fighter has one hour to lose up to two pounds if the doctor okays it. We do that with the undercard as well. So according to our regs, he has one hour to lose up to two pounds.”

Bennett re-emerged o inform the media present that doctors had okayedLee to cut no more than the one pound needed (obviously), so the fight could still happen, although it would most likely involve an extremely drawn and depleted Lee.

Rumor: Kevin Lee ‘Still Working’ On Making Weight

It wouldn’t be a Tony Ferguson fight without some weigh-in drama. Heading into “El Cucuy’s” interim lightweight title bout versus No. 7-ranked Kevin Lee in the main event of tomorrow’s (Sat., October 7, 2017) UFC 216 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, “The Motown Phenom” has yet to show up at today’s official early […]

It wouldn’t be a Tony Ferguson fight without some weigh-in drama.

Heading into “El Cucuy’s” interim lightweight title bout versus No. 7-ranked Kevin Lee in the main event of tomorrow’s (Sat., October 7, 2017) UFC 216 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, “The Motown Phenom” has yet to show up at today’s official early weigh-ins.

While broadcasting the weigh-ins live, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani tweeted that while sources were ‘confident’ he would make weight, he was still working on it with roughly 30 minutes left in allotted time:

Ferguson was of course set to take on undefeated contender Khabib Nurmagomedov at March’s UFC 209, but that fight fell apart when the Dagestani grappler failed to appear at the weigh-ins due to him being hospitalized.

“El Cucuy” made the championship fight limit of 155 pounds, appearing extremely relieved when he did so.

No. 2-ranked lightweight contender Tony Ferguson is riding an incredible nine-fight win streak, but he hasn’t competed since November 2016. This weekend, however, he’ll headline UFC 216 in Las Vegas, Nevada against rising contender Kevin Lee in an interim title bout.

In the lead-up to the fight, Ferguson and Lee have often gone back-and-forth in the media, and “El Cucuy” recently labeled Lee as ‘fake’:

“I’m not fake, and I see this guy as fake,” Ferguson told MMAjunkie at today’s UFC 216 media day. “He’s trying to be something that he’s not. I know where you come from. I lived in the suburbs (of Michigan), too. Trust me, I know. We have people around the block. I don’t have to be fake. I’m probably one of the most real guys.”

Although Conor McGregor’s future is uncertain, the winner of UFC 216’s main event could take on the “Notorious” one next in a title unification bout. Ferguson said that McGregor ‘never spoken’ his name, but that the Irishman is ‘going to have to fight’ him:

“I don’t like red panties. I like blue panties,” Ferguson said. “He’s got to defend or vacate. He’s going to have to fight me. There’s no insider information. He’s never spoken my name. I’m one of the most ruthless vatos out there. This guy, he doesn’t want a part of me. I’m not aiming at him. I don’t give two (expletives).

“I don’t want to fight someone who doesn’t want to fight me or compete against some of the best. When you’re saying, ‘I’ll fight anybody, anytime.’ You’re (expletive) full of (expletive). For me, I’ve been fighting anybody, any time, any weight – straight up.”

Coming off of a loss to Floyd Mayweather in their Aug. 26 boxing match, it would make sense for McGregor, the undisputed UFC lightweight champion, to take on an interim champion, but there have been rumors indicating that he could take on Nate Diaz in a trilogy match in his return to the Octagon.

Do you feel as if McGregor should take on the winner of Ferguson vs. Lee?
