Tony Ferguson hoping for an odd finishing in the upcoming lightweight title fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

This probably isn’t what the fans, media, fighters or the Las Vegas-based promotion want to see in such a huge fight. However, there is one person who hopes to see an interesting finish to this fight.

That man is Ferguson.

Tony Ferguson Hoping

Ferguson is also fighting on this card as he will take on former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in the co-main. In a recent interview, Ferguson made it known that he’s hoping to see a double knockout in this title bout.

“Double knockout,” Ferguson said today at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas (H/T to MMAJunkie).“I’m going to keep saying it the whole time. I want these dudes to knock each other out. You talk enough (expletive) – (expletive) it, man. Go out there and squash that (expletive).”

Reasoning

Ferguson stated that this is a man’s sport and that they are trying to clean it up. The fight’s buildup does not impress him

“This is a man’s sport. We’re trying to clean this (expletive) up. We’ve got these two knuckleheads going out there making an ass out of themselves, so whatever. You want me to cut a promo? You’re talking to the wrong guy.”

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Focus

The former interim champ also stated that he intends to stay completely focused on the task in front of him, which is to fight Pettis.

“Anthony Pettis – that’s who the focus is,” Ferguson said. “That’s who the focus is always going to be. I’m not going to change my story. Everyone wants to look toward the future. I’m going to look right now. Enjoy it.”

We are midway through the biggest fight week in MMA history.

UFC 229 is just days away but does it feel like it should be bigger? Does it feel like it should have been promoted differently?

UFC President Dana White has gone on the record and stated this is the biggest fight in the promotion’s history. The outspoken executive is predicting a record-demolishing three million PPV buys. Many other media outlets have echoed that very sentiment, albeit to a lesser extent. Any time you have the sport’s most recognizable star coming back after a two-year hiatus, it’s going to make headlines, and for good reason.

But honestly, doesn’t it feel like UFC 229 should be bigger than it has been thus far? We here at LowkickMMA think so, and that’s why we broke down six ways the UFC could have perhaps promoted the event better.

Check them out here:

Dana White Overestimated McGregor’s Appeal

Is it possible that White was wrongly banking on Conor McGregor and the entire country of Ireland?

We all know that the Irish fans travel well, probably better than just about any other group of people. Especially McGregor’s crazy passionate fans. I’m sure there will be a massive cheering section at the sold-out T-Mobile Arena for one Conor McGregor, but how many of those fans will be from the Emerald Isle across the pond?

McGregor’s appeal may have taken a big blow as it came to the casual fan when he tried his hand at the sweeter science of combat sports. His loss to Floyd Mayweather isn’t going to sway his believers. When all is said and done, UFC 229 will probably do monster numbers.

But you can only wonder what Conor’s appeal would be if he were the 1 in 50-1.

It’s time Khabib Nurmagomedov updates his weight status heading into Saturday’s (Oct. 6, 2018) UFC 229 from Las Vegas.

The lightweight champion’s weight has been a hot topic before the biggest fight of his career. It’s for good reason. Nurmagomedov was missed weight before. His scheduled UFC 209 interim title bout with Tony Ferguson was called off as a result.

Uncertainty brews and McGregor’s team is even concerned about the Dagestani combatant being on point at weigh-ins. It would be an extremely costly weight miss. The undefeated Nurmagomedov is most likely headed for his biggest payday. More importantly, he could finally become a mainstream star with a victory. He won’t make McGregor’s record-breaking MMA payday, but it will certainly be Khabib’s most lucrative purse.

The fight has to happen first. The MMA world is on pins and needles hoping that their biggest-ever match goes off without a hitch in five days’ time. Khabib has certainly dealt with a ton of serious injuries in recent years.

‘The Eagle’ said on this week’s “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” that he was thankful to be in good shape. He clarified that his weight was good:

“Now I have belt, I am undisputed, undefeated. Now, this is my third fight in my last nine months. It’s like we part of the pay-per-view, everything And like five days before the fight, this is crazy.

“Now we’re here, my weight is good, my shape is good. I’m 30 years old, I’m still hungry, I’m still young for this sport. This is crazy.”

The champ claimed he was already at 166 pounds and would make weight “no problem” for the match.

Beyond that, Khabib obviously has a long history with McGregor.

More Than Personal

The Irish former champion was arrested for his infamous bus attack this April. He threw a metal dolly through a bus containing Nurmagomedov prior to UFC 223.

Because of the scene, Helwani asked Khabib if the fight was more than just a title defense. “The Eagle” admitted that indeed it was. Nurmagomedov claimed he was chomping at the bit to make McGregor pay:

“Yeah, I agree. This is a little bit more than defending my title, more than fight for the title. You know this more than like, fight. It’s a little bit personal for, of course, and you know, I wanna make this guy pay, you know? This guy gonna pay about everything, what he say, what he did.

“In like five days, I’m gonna be very happy. We here now, and we very close.”

But he stopped short at sounding cocky before the biggest fight of his life. The always-humble Khabib acknowledged that McGregor had lethal timing and striking skills he could not underestimate:

“I’m not underestimating this guy, I know this guy have good timing, good boxing.”
