Conor McGregor’s father has given his prediction for the upcoming lightweight title fight at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. Conor McGregor will obviously take on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title at 155 pounds and is arguably the biggest fight in the history of the UFC.

McGregor hasn’t fought in the Octagon in over a year and never defended his lightweight title before being stripped of it. Instead, he spent his time hyping a mega-boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. As seen in the fight, he lost it via 10th-round TKO at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena last August.

Tony McGregor Speaks

Tony McGregor recently spoke with Ariel Helwani on his ESPN MMA show (transcript courtesy of SportsJoe) where he gave his prediction for the fight. According to the father of the former UFC champ, he thinks the UFC lightweight champion is too slow to avoid the power of his son. He also gave some insight into how Khabib won’t see anything coming due to the power, speed, and precision of Conor.

“Excuse me for a moment while I yawn, honestly. This argument bores me. I’ve looked at this every which way. Even up til last night I was looking at Khabib’s fights. He’s slow, he’s sloppy, he’s predictable. There’s nothing in Khabib’s arsenal that Conor fears. Nothing!”

“Conor’s camp is possibly the most awesome camp to date. He’s in peak physical condition. His power is unbelievable. Khabib is too slow. He won’t see this coming. Conor’s power, Conor’s speed, Conor’s precision – Khabib has nothing to counter that.”

Conor McGregor’s Father Offers Bold Prediction

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is slated to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. Tony McGregor thinks his son will finish him in the very first round.

“He’s going to be gone in the first round, without a doubt. There’s no way Khabib is going to survive until the second round in this one. He will not be able to stand Conor McGregor’s power. Once Conor cracks his skull, that’s it. Khabib is going to be too slow. And even if he tries to change and tries to be quick, he’s going to fall back to his old ways.”

“To be honest with you, he’s actually an amateur. I don’t know how he got to this level. Really and truly. He’s an amateur fighting amongst amateurs. This Octagon is a different Octagon that he’s ever fought in. When he steps into this Octagon on October 6, he’s stepping in with a highly-tuned professional – not the amateurs that Khabib has faced.”

Reports have been flying out of Ireland that UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s life is in ‘very, very serious danger’ following his alleged Dublin bar fight with a notorious Irish gangster last weekend, but his father, Tony McGregor, doesn’t seem to be all that worried.

‘The Notorious’ MMA star’s father recently spoke to Irish Mirror (via Balls.ie) to offer his view of the situation, offering the stance that it had grown completely out of control and that his son had nothing to worry about:

“It’s grown legs and it’s getting that ridiculous – it’s become funny. We have nothing to fear here whatsoever. There’s no one after us for anything.”

McGregor insisted that he and his family were law-abiding, and offered an odd comparison of his son’s current situation, which he views as almost total nonsense:

“We’re a law-abiding family and we’ve stayed a law-abiding family. As a matter of fact, right now I’m going out to buy my TV licence. I’d view 95% of that story as nonsense and the other 5% is overly exaggerated. And that’s it.”

Finally, Tony McGregor also heard the rumors that the Irish Gardai were preparing to approach his son with an order declaring his life was in official danger, but he also shot down that possibility by confirming his beliefs that guards wouldn’t be looking for Conor because they had no reason to.

With that established, McGregor revealed that Conor was reportedly at home with his son and girlfriend Dee Devlin as their family got ready for Christmas:

“Guards have no reason to be in touch. Why would they?”

“He’s at home with his son. We’re all just settling down for Christmas now. I’ve just got the grandson’s presents in today, they just came in from America.

“I’ll be wrapping them, putting them under the tree for the big day. That’s it.”
